Leather jackets and jeans on little ones-huge row

Theninetieswereacrazydream · 04/09/2022 17:54

My mum, sister and I were shopping and my sister said how cute mini leather jackets were on toddlers/little ones, especially with jeans and boots…mum agreed, I pulled a face and said I didn’t like it…huge row and I was called a snob. Am I a snob for simply not liking something? The same way they might not like a flowery dress on my Dd? Isn’t it just opinion and I can say mine 🙈I just don’t like that look! 🤷🏻‍♀️
They then started to say that I put a denim jacket on Dd (I sometimes do in summer over a dress in the evening if it’s cooler at night) not the same as a black leather jacket 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

I couldn't hack this drama over nothing. Are they always easily offended? I'd just not and smile more and ignore their clothing views.

Swimmingpoolsally · 04/09/2022 17:57

spunds like you’re a bunch of drama llamas.

NuffSaidSam · 04/09/2022 17:57

No, of course YANBU to have an opinion.

FWIW I don't like leather jackets or dresses on small children. I think they both reek of aesthetics over practicality.

Andromachehadabadday · 04/09/2022 17:59

Either they are huge drama queens or you said more than it’s not simply something you like.

I can guess which one you will say it is.

raindon · 04/09/2022 18:00

Does it always cause a huge row when you disagree? This doesn't sound healthy.

minisoksmakehardwork · 04/09/2022 18:01

Each to their own. I prefer practical clothes for me and the children. But a well put together outfit has its place.

luxxlisbon · 04/09/2022 18:01

Seems ridiculous to have a “huge row” regardless of liking the jacket or not.
What was the need to even detail what the pointless argument was about? Are you hoping people will tell you you’re right?

Yes. Especially out in public when shopping. Were your kids with you?

PuttingDownRoots · 04/09/2022 18:02

I don't like parent/child matching outfits, full replica football kits not for sport, baby grows not as pyjamas after the first few months, and crop top/legging combos not for sport.

Other people do. Their choice. I make mine.

pictish · 04/09/2022 18:06

Just personal preference isn’t it?

SeasonFinale · 04/09/2022 18:07

If it became a huge row then YABU because what is there to row about. Basically you have different taste in clothes.

NumptiesIncorporated · 04/09/2022 18:08

You pulled a face? What kind of face? Sounds like you were maybe highly dismissive of their views, implying they were wrong.

I wonder what the history is behind this. This doesn't sound like something that would come from nothing.

LetHimHaveIt · 04/09/2022 18:10

I, too, think kids with gelled hair, leather jackets and jeans like a bloody T-Bird, look godawful.

Some people will find any chink to stick the boot in. Not happy people…but some people.

DramaAlpaca · 04/09/2022 18:12

I'm with you, OP.

lailamaria · 06/09/2022 08:28

It's jeans and a jacket what's not to like, i don't understand the drama of pulling a face like there's nothing impractical about jeans, plus op what if your daughter wanted to wear jeans and not a flowery dress

KimberleyClark · 06/09/2022 08:32

I don’t like seeing kids in camp/little army fatigues.

KimberleyClark · 06/09/2022 08:32

Camo not camp.

NovaDeltas · 06/09/2022 09:06

Channel 4 should follow you around filming your disagreements for entertainment.

OriginalUsername3 · 06/09/2022 09:15

I don't understand how this resulted in a huge row.

It's a damn cute look though. Think I'll get DS another one actually.

RudsyFarmer · 06/09/2022 09:16

When they were little I dressed them for comfort. So no I wouldn’t put a leather jacket on a small child.

MyneighbourisTotoro · 06/09/2022 10:02

YANBU to have differing opinions

You are all being unreasonable to have a row over it and it was odd for them to call your snobby.

Its personal preference and not something to make such a big fuss over.

Siameasy · 06/09/2022 10:10

I don’t like young kids dressed for fashion rather than practicality; it rubs me up the wrong way. Probably because I’m 70s-born and wore ugly clothes 😂

Soubriquet · 06/09/2022 10:12

I can sort of tolerate it on toddlers but I hate seeing little babies laying in their pushchairs with jeans and jackets on.

But they aren’t my babies, so I wouldn’t say anything. Just silently judge

Marcipex · 06/09/2022 10:15

I have always been sorry for little ones in tight jeans, horrible solid little trainers, heavy leather jackets.

Such a waste of money to make children uncomfortable.

A nursery child used to arrive in chaps and heeled cowboy boots. A clean nappy would have impressed us more.
