I took 3 year old DD to Ipswich town centre on an Owl trail today, which was supposed to be the last day. Only to find they’d removed the giant painted owls this morning. We could have gone yesterday but chose today instead as the event was advertised as ending today, on 3rd Sept. Disappointed is a total understatement. I don’t think we’re the only ones.

It was a fundraising event run by a local charity. I also did a 30 minutes detour this morning to a charity shop in another town to buy the trail map for £1 and my sister had paid for the app to show us where the owls were that we could have seen if we’d gone yesterday but not today :-(

They we’re also selling a load of owl related crap at the town hall, none of which we felt like buying as we hadn’t actually got to see the blimin owls.

Apparently transport for the owls could only be arranged for today.

My feelings are that, whether it’s a charity or not, whoever was in charge of the event has monumentally f*#%ed up and needs to be sacked for not doing their job properly and organising for the owls to be removed on the correct date. Surely it’s not that hard 🤷🏻‍♀️

It sounds very disappointing, but they have given a reason for it (the transport). They should perhaps have publicised that they wouldn’t be there a bit better. Not sure it warrants sackings or amounts to a “monumental” fuck up though.

Agreed

I suspect they didn’t realise anyone would be this emotionally invested in their owl trail.

jetadore · 03/09/2022 18:41

Worse things happen at sea.

LampLighter414 · 03/09/2022 18:43

That’s a shame OP. Sounds like it would have been a real hoot.

knackeredagain · 03/09/2022 18:44

Well, don't you sound a hoot?

Strawberries86 · 03/09/2022 18:44

I would be disappointed and frustrated too.

Meraas · 03/09/2022 18:45

How much were the tickets?

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 03/09/2022 18:48

I understand 100% your disappointment OP - we went to a similar trail last weekend & the first 2 had been moved. Would have been gutted if they'd all gone.

Roselilly36 · 03/09/2022 18:50

Aww how disappointing, come to Norwich and do the dinosaur trail, the ones I have seen are fabulous.

mrsm43s · 03/09/2022 18:58

Isn't this a free trail? And for charity?

So you're basically pissed off that you unnecessarily donated £1 to charity for the map? And the app is like £1.50 or something (again for charity).

Surely you could have found something else fun for your toddler to look at in Ipswich?

Couldn't get het up about it, I'm afraid. Especially since the reason for the removal one day early has been communicated.

OldTinHat · 03/09/2022 19:00

I'd have been disappointed too.

Hugasauras · 03/09/2022 19:04

Disappointing but I find it odd you're baying for someone's blood over it Confused

Jourdain11 · 03/09/2022 19:09

If it was ending today I'd kind of assume that they might be removed today. In my experience, that sort of thing does happen.

SeasonFinale · 03/09/2022 19:10

Come and look at the Cambridge benches instead

Pumperthepumper · 03/09/2022 19:13

And when you volunteer to run charity events, di they always run smoothly?

waterlego · 03/09/2022 19:15

Ah, it’s a shame this has ruffled your feathers, but it sounds like a simple mistake rather than fowl play.

alwaysfactor50 · 03/09/2022 19:16

It is disappointing but they've been up for ages!!

sayanythingelse · 03/09/2022 19:16

I just googled it and it looks like it's been on since June, so it's not like you didn't have plenty of time to go?

It was also posted on Instagram 2 days ago that they will be removed today.

Unicorn717 · 03/09/2022 19:17

I'd have been a bit annoyed if it was something I was looking forward to but would have found something else to do instead. Couldn't really be mad at a charity (especially when they still did the other days).

You're a hoot!

Tootief · 03/09/2022 19:37

I'd be disappointed but wouldn't get into that much of a flap about it. Have you tweeted them?

Sighhhhh · 03/09/2022 19:51

A little disappointing but I wouldn’t bring my talons out for this. Let it go OP

BigHoots · 03/09/2022 20:08

Just to clarify, we couldn’t have gone before as we’re not local, staying with relatives nearby and only found out about it on Thurs (advertised through one of their charity shops).

Hugasauras · 03/09/2022 20:11

So you want a - presumably small as you said local - charity to sack somebody because a fundraising event that has been on for three months or so finished a day early because it was the only day they could arrange removal of the exhibits, yes?
