I took 3 year old DD to Ipswich town centre on an Owl trail today, which was supposed to be the last day. Only to find they’d removed the giant painted owls this morning. We could have gone yesterday but chose today instead as the event was advertised as ending today, on 3rd Sept. Disappointed is a total understatement. I don’t think we’re the only ones.

It was a fundraising event run by a local charity. I also did a 30 minutes detour this morning to a charity shop in another town to buy the trail map for £1 and my sister had paid for the app to show us where the owls were that we could have seen if we’d gone yesterday but not today :-(

They we’re also selling a load of owl related crap at the town hall, none of which we felt like buying as we hadn’t actually got to see the blimin owls.

Apparently transport for the owls could only be arranged for today.

My feelings are that, whether it’s a charity or not, whoever was in charge of the event has monumentally f*#%ed up and needs to be sacked for not doing their job properly and organising for the owls to be removed on the correct date. Surely it’s not that hard 🤷🏻‍♀️

Annoying but I don't think anyone needs to lose their job over it.

gardenooh · 03/09/2022 20:23

Not really newsworthy

OGLittlePickerWithTheMassiveKnickers · 03/09/2022 20:39

You found out about it Thursday and you’re this angry??

Mmmmkayyyyyy….

Farmmum77 · 03/09/2022 20:45

I wouldn’t get in such a flap about it ….

1AngelicFruitCake · 03/09/2022 20:50

Your 3 year old will be fine. Good time to point out that sometimes things happen and we’re disappointed and move on! It is rubbish but they’re a charity for crying out loud!

You want someone to be sacked over this?!

Caroffee · 03/09/2022 20:58

Wow. If you're this upset over something so minor, how will you feel if something really goes wrong for you?

Arewethebadguys · 03/09/2022 20:58

MiddleParking · 03/09/2022 18:39

I suspect they didn’t realise anyone would be this emotionally invested in their owl trail.

Nailed it

Cedricsmum · 03/09/2022 21:05

I’d be disappointed. Would I want someone to lose their job over this? Honestly it’s disgraceful you should feel that way.

IpiBippi · 03/09/2022 21:09

Hi BigHoots This is my home town, I know the trail has been on for a long time but we were saving the last 2 owls to 'find' today, at the end of the school holidays.

We were also disappointed when we realised they were gone but we are able to see them next weekend when they are all going to be put up on display together, I don't suppose you are able to go to that?

Sorry you are disappointed. I took it as an opportunity to tell my kids that sometimes things change, they must of had a good reason, & if they do a trail next year we will make sure to finish it before the last dayGrin

DeclansAFeckingDream · 03/09/2022 21:17

You want someone to be sacked? From a charity event?

Annoying, yes, but you don't sound a particularly charitable person. Most people would think 'that was a bit shit' then forget all about it.

Darkness22 · 03/09/2022 21:18

I think it is a bit ridiculous in this age of social media. Somebody could have put it on Facebook etc.

LadyRoughDiamond · 03/09/2022 21:19

jetadore · 03/09/2022 18:41

Worse things happen at sea.

Worse things happen in Ipswich too, believe me.

Actupfishy · 03/09/2022 21:19

Wow. Such a minor inconvenience to trigger this level of emotion.

Still doesn't merit someone losing their job.

Artesia · 03/09/2022 21:20

You want someone sacked?? Don't be a t-wit, t-woo wrongs don't make a right.

Very good!

Thatiswild · 03/09/2022 21:24

Loving these owl jokes, wish I was as t-witty myself!

sorry you’re disappointed and I do get it but I think your reaction is disproportionate.

Someone said it was updated on Instagram two days ago.

Change12345 · 03/09/2022 21:27

I’d be very slightly disappointed and it would end there. I think YABU but it obviously matters to you, it’s not a big deal on the grand scheme of life though so don’t let it spoil your weekend

IpiBippi · 03/09/2022 21:28

Thanks TugboatAnnie.
Well there you go then BigHoots. I'm not on Instagram or Facebook so often miss things, I accept this, & definitely wouldn't want anybody sacked!

Ah, it’s a shame this has ruffled your feathers, but it sounds like a simple mistake rather than fowl play.

I don’t think they did it beakause they were trying to belittle(owl) the OP.

That’s a shame OP. Sounds like it would have been a real hoot.

🤣🦉

Hapo · 03/09/2022 21:40

Don't be daft. Its a free event and it ended a few hours early. You should have gone earlier if it was that important to see the owls.

ElegantlyTouched · 03/09/2022 21:47

I get your disappointment. I went to an event a few weeks back which was meant to be on between ten and one. Arrived at half 11 to find they'd packed up as they thought no one was coming. It wasn't an event you needed to be there for the whole thing (definitely a pop-in thing) and I thought it was rude of them to end it so early.
