Traffic one with amazing diagram

Blue cars are all waiting on temporary traffic lights. I am in the yellow car turning left on to the road, I look where I am turning and then look right to the direction where cars would be coming from and begin to turn.
Red car is coming in to the wrong lane to turn in to the side road. Red car subsequently beeps and shouts at me?!?!

Yip, red car is an arse and that's a fab diagram.

dudsville · 03/09/2022 07:45

Great diagram!

What's your aibu?

puppylovey · 03/09/2022 07:46

AIBU to think I shouldn't have been beeped and shouted at as if I was in the wrong Grin

You drive a mouse?

😁

Penguinsaregreat · 03/09/2022 07:47

Red car was wrong.

Skinterior · 03/09/2022 07:48

We have a corner like this near us. Often people do what red car have done - me included - but we know we are in the wrong!

Or I think we do.

Excellent diagram

278Newnames · 03/09/2022 07:48

Actually I would venture to say that red car has right of way as they are already on the main road. Unless you had already turned out when they made their manoeuvre.

no need for the beeping and shouting though.

Like Jambo from Hollyoaks!

No, the red car was in the wrong lane, so it was not an acceptable manoeuvre.

Madamecastafiore · 03/09/2022 07:56

You should have just driven into him.

Damnautocorrect · 03/09/2022 07:58

So they wanted to;
over take the blue cars
And cut into the wrong lane

nope not your fault.

SlagathaChristie · 03/09/2022 07:58

Madamecastafiore · 03/09/2022 07:56

You should have just driven into him.

This. Preferably while making eye contact and screaming, "TO VALHALLAAAAAA!!!"

puppylovey · 03/09/2022 08:01

I did actually leave him enough space to get by, I wish I just pulled out and made him reverse back to his lane!

Don’t be ridiculous!

mattressspring · 03/09/2022 08:08

Well, the thing about him being on the main road is valid. Also the lines are broken meaning it's perfectly acceptable for him to overtake. The key factor here is whether you started your manoeuvre before he did, because in that case he should wait to overtake. If he was already in the overtake and you simply looked you your right then pulled out, he would be in the right.

I LOVE your diagram though

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 03/09/2022 08:18

Red car is wrong but possibly thought the blue cars were parked as the traffic lights are clearly faulty as all the coloured lights are showing. Red car is still wrong.

BadNomad · 03/09/2022 08:18

He wasn't overtaking. He was driving down the wrong lane because he couldn't be bothered to wait for the lights to change and traffic to move.

WonderingWanda · 03/09/2022 08:23

I have a junction like this at the end of my road where there are always cars parked opposite and the red cars go round them and I'm never sure who has the right of way. The highway code says not to overtake if you might come into conflict with other road users e.g at a junction.

wombat1a · 03/09/2022 08:23

Actually you are in the wrong here provided they were already in the 'wrong' lane before you turned out and there isn't a solid white line between the lanes.

If you had hit each other it would range from 50:50 to 0:100 against you with the insurance company.

MajorCarolDanvers · 03/09/2022 08:26

Red car is an arse.

Technically you should have looked again before pulling out but most wouldn't.

Magnificent diagram 👏

Thank you for probably explaining better than me.

As for people telling me not to be ridiculous 🙄🙄

ApathyMartha · 03/09/2022 08:41

Even though red car is annoying you need to look both ways before turning left onto a major road. I say this as a friend of someone who had to pay out on hitting a bus that had overtaken a parked car as she was turning left out of a minor road. I’d have still beeped right back at them though!

He was overtaking stationary traffic. The basis of an overtake often means you drive down the 'wrong' lane. That's allowed.

The Highway Code - Rule 167

DO NOT overtake where you might come into conflict with other road users. For example

where traffic is queuing at junctions or road works

He wasn't even overtaking. He was never intending to move back into his lane.
