Fucking massive wasp. What do I do?

I’m going to sound insane. DH is away from home with work. I’m here with my 3yo DS and DD who is only 6 weeks! I heard something downstairs moving about. I thought it was a burglar. So I made noise and turned lights on and off in the hallway. I then ventured downstairs with my phone ready to call the police, absolutely terrified. There’s the biggest wasp I’ve ever seen. I thought it was a bird! It’s easily 10cm long! I’m not squeamish, I lived in Costa Rica with some massive bugs, I killed a false widow earlier today. But I just went straight back upstairs. I can still hear it hitting the walls, bouncing around downstairs. What do I do?!

Please tell me you’re still in Costa Rica.

This!

@MeetthemoveratDover 🤣🤣🤣

@Labourious Erm.... Sure it's not a Bat? Either way you need to call someone round to help!

Justsleep · 02/09/2022 00:50

It isn’t one of those giant wasp thingys is it? Can’t think of the name but I learnt if these creatures the other day and googled. Horrible.

Pieceofpurplesky · 02/09/2022 00:50

Look up murder wasp. Then run

Labourious · 02/09/2022 00:51

I’m in England! I’ve never seen anything like it. It looked like some kind of flying kids robot bug toy thing, like it couldn’t be real. I’ve written off downstairs. Can I avoid the whole downstairs until tomorrow night and get DH to deal with it?!

Are you sure it's not a hornet? Wasps are in bed at this time of might, hornets tend to be a bit more nocturnal is it making a very loud droning buzz?

Justsleep · 02/09/2022 00:52

Asian hornet! That’s the one.

5zeds · 02/09/2022 00:52

It’s a hornet. Turn on the light in the downstairs loo (cupboard?) turn off all the other lights then shut it in and deal with it in the morning.

5zeds · 02/09/2022 00:53

Or suit up and hunt it

ThePumpkinPatch · 02/09/2022 00:54

I'm never opening a window again

Jacopo · 02/09/2022 00:54

Do you have an outside light? If so, switch it on, then open doors and windows and it will hopefully go out towards the light. You have to deal with it, why should it be your husband’s job?

Asian Hornets can kill humans if they sting you

No, not when you need a real man.

Labourious · 02/09/2022 00:58

How big are Asian hornets? It’s massive!! I can’t hear a buzzing but I can hear it hitting things. It’s DH’s responsibility because a) I dealt with the false widow earlier, and b) if I try to deal with it and it kills me (quite likely) then the kids will be alone until DH gets home.

It could be a queen. I’ve just read they can spray venom into people’s eyes. Definitely be careful.

EmmiJay · 02/09/2022 01:01

Suit up and go battle it. Open all the doors and windows and chase the beast out! I had to do this with the fattest bee thing I've ever seen the other week (it was fuzzy, gold with a moth type wing shape idk what the fuck it was tbh) Felt pretty pleased I'd saved the child and myself after it left😅

Seriously? Is there someone I can call? Like a wasp remover? Or should I just hope it leaves?

As big as a human thumb.
Excellent point about the kids being alone. Have that Jacob!
I honestly would get another human round. Call everyone you know. Get them to bring Raid Spray and anything else that might help. My heart goes out to you as I'd be screwed, my child & I have nobody to call

If it's a queen wasp looking for a mate, they just have an ordinary sting like other wasps, even though they're bigger.

From Google, an Asian hornet is only 5.5cm, it’s bigger than that! It’s huge!!

MeetthemoveratDover · 02/09/2022 01:04

Yes but wiki says the giant Asian hornet is capable of spraying venom at eyes as well as stinging.
