AIBU to go off at delivery drivers

Im at a loss and definitely at the end of my patience here. just wanted to share here to see if it would annoy you all too.
I'm honestly (promise!!!) not a stroppy person. I don't send food back in restaurants and things like that. I don't complain for small reasons, life's too short. But we've been renting our current place for almost a year and this is driving me nuts.

Without revealing our real address let's say we live at 7 Big Hippo Road. It's a very big new build development with hundreds of apartments and so luck would have it we live in apartment 7B. For some unknown reason it's a huge ordeal for people to type out Big Hippo road and EVERY single day, several times a day we get deliveries for basically anywhere in the building addressed to 7 B Hippo Road (usually the apartment number is like on the next line and delivery drivers are just careless). When I say every day; I mean every single day. And, more annoyingly, night too (late night pizzas etc)
We have an intercom downstairs so first they ring the intercom which even at its lowest setting is fairly loud (can't turn it off as we also get deliveries quite often, most our household essentials are on monthly order with Amazon). I have a one month old and a two year old. When I was pregnant sleep was very hard to come by. My two year old wakes up at 6 am every day. The only time I could nap was when she napped and if I got woken up it was so so hard to fall asleep again. Cute the motherforking deliveries that aren't for us. i get 15 minutes sleep, get woken up, can't fall asleep again.

Even worse, then someone orders a pizza or Chinese at 1 am. We ALL get woken up. Imagine having a toddler and newborn woken up in the middle of the night, I've literally shed tears over this, it's exhausting and just such an unnecessary hardship. Obviously also now our one month old especially gets woken up by the doorbells and some of them also talk really loud. Especially the royal mail driver we have. He is here like every day, making the same mistake every day!

We can mute the intercom overnight but we forget to do it a lot of the time, or then forget to unmute it's and end up missing our own deliveries.

so I started being very mean to delivery drivers. I can't help it I literally started to hate them. They ARGUE WITH ME. I used to say: it's not for me, show me what the address says, and point out where the flat number is written down. They would get annoyed, and say it says 7B!! And I'm like: do you think I ordered food, paid for it, and now decided I don't want it any more? Or do you think I did this asos shop and then decided I can't be asked and not to receive it? I don't get it why are they fighting with me?
so now I literally just tell them off and talk to them like they're toddlers and tell them they have one job and they suck at it etc and honestly that's just not the person I like to be. It's kind of satisfying in the moment but long term it's definitely negativity I could live without.

If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate them 😫 maybe I can take this to the concierge and tell them to screen everyone coming in, but I just dont think it's possible. Mind you when my cat died the same day my baby was born, i ran out in my socks to get him to the emergency vet and came home without him, devastated, not even recovered from the absolute terror that my labour was and the little f*cker at the concierge desk decided to ask me if I live there. I get it I'm a barefoot mess but fi you can screen me screen the delivery drivers too I guess? Just such an annoying situation sorry and thank you if you read it all

7 B Hippo road must be loaded to be making daily orders

buzzbuzzybuzz · 31/08/2022 20:23
  1. Yes speak to the concierge!
  2. Move?
  3. Can you put a sign somewhere on the building?
gamerchick · 31/08/2022 20:24

Accept them all as yours, chuck them in a cupboard and let the people who they're really for sort it out. Freebies.

But the person ordering isnt making the error

SunshineClouds1 · 31/08/2022 20:28

Put a sign next to the intercom

qtpa2t · 31/08/2022 20:28

I would honestly love to but I don't have it in me to just take it😩I can't really know if it was the person ordering or the website formatting that messed up the address and it's so annoying to have to reorder stuff and report it lost etc.. also if it's food too, you know when you get home from work really tired, just want food, and then it gets lost and you have to wait even longer? I hated that when I worked. up until month 6-7 of pregnancy I would take parcels up to the right apartments, but after that point I thought enoughhhhhh.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 31/08/2022 20:29

I may have missed something, but who is making the error in typing the address? Am I right in assuming it's the people who live in apartment 7 in Big Hippo Road? As surely the address on the delivery/parcels is just what's been put on the order? If that's the case, then isn't the solution to speak to the occupants of apartment 7, explain what's happening, and ask them to use their correct full address in future?

44PumpLane · 31/08/2022 20:30

Do you own? Can you get your apartment number change?

So instead of you being apartment 7B you'd be apartment 7Z (or whatever), so when they write 7 B Hippo Road, apt 7C, there will no longer be an apt 7B in your building and they will have to stop being lazy and read the whole address.

Natty13 · 31/08/2022 20:30

This would drive me absolutely batty. I fully get your rage. However...I don't understand why you don't do the thing in this that you can control which is to get better at muting your intercom at night. You can't stop your neighbours putting your address and you can't stop delivery drivers trying to deliver it to you but you can stop it disturbing you at inconvenient times.

qtpa2t · 31/08/2022 20:31

re putting sing

there are three separate intercoms into the development and when we put a note on one of them it disappeared within the day. It kind of isnt the kind of look they're going for. The outside of the building is a little pretentious tbh. Looks like an office

OP posts:
averageavocado · 31/08/2022 20:31

set a reminder to mute / unmute your doorbell overnight

buzzbuzzybuzz · 31/08/2022 20:31

Can you give your flat a name?

RHINO APT. 7B 7 Big Hippo road

buzzbuzzybuzz · 31/08/2022 20:32

Actually as PP said maybe speak to the people at the other place?

RichardMarxisinnocent · 31/08/2022 20:32

Apologies, I just re-read and realised you live at Apartment 7B, at 7 Big Hippo Road. So it could be any of the other flats ordering the items.

You're right! I should. Whenever I do remember I mute it but most days when I'm ready to sleep my head hits the pillow so hard it knocks me right out. I'm exhausted haha I just feel like I shouldn't have to set up these defences just to live a peaceful life but yes I probably should just make it a part of going to bed - waking up habit

So you're having daily Amazon deliveries yourself but these extra deliveries are the ones annoying you? Just turn the intercom off. Presumably they'll leave it with the concierge or put a note on saying to call you as intercom isn't working etc.

Sorry I must have not been very clear. I'm the one living in apartment 7B... everyone else lives on 7 Big Hippo Road, any other apartment, like 26C.so they will write first line of address is 7 B Hippo Road and then next line 26C, but drivers don't read next line and just deliver it to me to 7B. Hope that makes sense

We don't own but the Whole building was built to rent and is owned by the same company, so now im honestly beginning to wonder if we should ask them to do that 😅

Totally agree you shouldn't but you kind of have to. It is shit but the alternative is continuing to be driven mad over it. Set a reminder or leave yourself a note beside the kettle (my trick for myself) and try not to sweat stuff like that. People are either idiots or dicks so expect nothing from them and do what you can to preserve your sanity yourself.

They're not daily but if you ever used subscribe and save on Amazon, a lot of the time if the item you have scheduled to arrive isn't in stock it can be sent kind of randomly. We don't keep track of delays. Nappies, washing up liquid, washing machine tablets, alllll of that stuff arrives monthly. So most of the time we know when but sometimes it can arrive on a random day. And yeah, if the delivery is actually for me It doesn't annoy me because it's not someone else's mess up. Idk it's just our rent is so high (london) and changing our habits for this and adding to my mental load of having to deal with misdeliveries and maybe picking stuff up from the post office seems unreasonable

100% right I think I'll just have to let it go completely and add it to my list. Just got under my skin!

I "accidentally" broke my intercom when the neighbours kids and their visitors kept ringing it everyday! Best thing that ever happened tbh peace at last.
I get everything to a P.O. Box and collect them one a week. Although I don't have as many deliveries as you by the sounds of it. Friends and family call me at the door and I go down and let them in.
It's been at least a year now I love having no intercom 😬

Mossstitch · 31/08/2022 20:43

To be honest, I would mute your bell and stop ordering online. Or only order once a month/week from a supermarket so you would know the time slot for delivery and unmute it for just those two hours.

Fluffygreenslippers · 31/08/2022 20:44

Oh this used to happen in my old flat, drove me mad. They’d buzz me even when it wasn’t for me. Sometimes it was the neighbours buzzing to get in as they didn’t have a key for whatever reason! The buzzer was so fucking loud too.

SproutsAtChristmas · 31/08/2022 20:46

Slightly similar issue we had in our new build. We were one of the first houses built and moved in on our road then the others were months and years later. As a result, there was only one address registered when you found the drop down lists on shopping websites, which ironically wasn't even built at the time. Anytime I wanted to order, I'd have to try manually input our house number and a few times when I completed the order, their system had automatically changed it to the non-built house? Happened with Amazon, Next etc so big retailers and was very annoying having to then call customer services to say don't deliver it there, I'm at number X instead. Lost many parcels due to the new address issues but thankfully got refunds.

About 6 months later some more people started moving in to our road and our address was finally listed alongside the other one but then we were getting all the deliveries including pizza, Chinese etc because only two addresses showed up on the drop down menu and we were now the smallest number 🤦 I had to then put something on Facebook saying please tell the delivery people which number you live at or I'm keeping your pizza! It stopped after that.

None of this was the delivery persons fault but the ordering online system was a nightmare until more addresses were finally added. I really don't understand why you'd order a Chinese though and not confirm with them repeatedly which number you live at if you know your address isn't listed?? Or even better, stand outside the house you've ordered it to if the address couldn't be put in correctly and intercept it so you don't disrupt your neighbours.
