September

Hi everyone,
I was talking to my mum earlier about how September is coming up and she said she didn’t want to think about it. Apparently, she doesn’t like September as it’s a downward slope into winter (which she says is even worse).
I love September and always have. I find the weather can be lovely as it’s never too hot but you can get away without a hoodie midday if the suns out. I find it seems to bring a sense of calm on the house and I love to give it a really deep clean ready for the winter months ahead. I don’t have school aged children so maybe that’s why I like it but I find September a really nice month (and it’s a great time to go abroad as prices are down and the pools are still warm etc from the summer).
What does everyone else think about September? Am I the only one who likes it?

Also just to add I know this isn’t really AIBU but I didn’t know where else to put it!

I'm ambivalent about it (hate when it's cold in the morning then by lunchtime you're sweating, and hate the weird cold nip in the air, just reminds me of being a freezing cold student all the time... but I like the colours). Much prefer April-June!!

After that nightmarish heat, September will be heaven. It’s one of my favourite months, actually. I love the UK in Autumn. Places like Oxford, Bath, York, Cambridge, etc are so beautiful on a sunny Autumn day - the sun shining through brown leaves, the smell of bonfires, etc.

Oh and I haaaaaaaaate the "cosy" thing - you can only "cuddle up with a hot chocolate" so many times before it becomes boring, dark evenings are miserable as fuck, dark mornings ditto, plus SAD and massive bills... sorry, went off a bit there!! "Countdown to christmas" people do my head in too. I like Christmas but not the lead up with all the shit in the shops.

I never liked September, because school started, but I got married on 3rd of September and now it's one of my favourite months.

Mittens1717 · 31/08/2022 12:05

Love September, such a beautiful month, always look forward to Autumn coming in, looking forward to Halloween and Christmas, dont actually mind Jan either if I'm honest, I realise this winter is going to be a tough one though

Fucking Hygge!! That was a rubbish attempt to monetise crap weather, which conveniently we have a lot of. Kaching.

I like September, but do feel a twinge of melancholy that the growing season is coming to an end. There's so much to enjoy in this season, but I'm aware of the dark months starting to loom on the horizon.

By February I'm pretty much at the end of my tether.

Ugh I could actually cry thinking about it.

The kids go back to school - I like them, I enjoy them being around.

I go back to work, I work in preschool, new children to get used to, increasingly not toilet trained, not verbal, just not.

The weather is getting worse, I walk everywhere, don't love arriving at work in wet clothes.

It's getting darker and colder, i'll have to put on lights, not heating, can't afford that this year.

It's just ugh!

I'll look for a positive, autumn colours are nice.

I love it, my youngest was born at the end of September. I can remember collecting my oldest from school, pushing the pram through the leaves in the park. Looking forward to Christmas with 2 little ones. I still feel the same now & youngest is 23 this year.

I love September, it's always felt like a new start and a hopeful month to me (might be related to it being the time you go back to school which I always loved after the summer holiday). It's my birthday month too.

I love the feel of autumn in the air where you get those days that are still sunny and warm but there's a breeze so it's more pleasant that hot summer days. I love going out to pick blackberries, apples and other fruit to make into crumbles and cakes. I love that you can still put the washing outside to dry and there are days where you don't yet need a coat but boots and tights can make a return. I love the approach of things like Bonfire Night and fireworks which aren't that far off once you're in September. DC1 starts school next week and I'm quite excited to have some time in the day where DC2 can have some more one-on-one time and to see what DC1 learns in reception.

mondaytosunday · 31/08/2022 16:50

I didn't like school but love September, October even more and the slide to Christmas is the best! I don't like January when it's damp and dark and nothing to look forward to for at least a couple months.

dudsville · 31/08/2022 20:50

Happy September Eve!

Elfrazzle · 31/08/2022 21:18

I choose September for our wedding day and it did not disapoint! Its a real feeling of new beginnings.

I love Autumn days, crisp mornings and halloween. The run up to Xmas is great, the aftermath, not so much!

By Feb I'm desparate for spring, but that's great thing about how different the seasons are in this country.

The heat this summer has been intense and unpleasant at times. It's made me feel ill Some days.

Elfrazzle · 31/08/2022 21:21

Although I love Autumn, I can understand this autumn and winter are going to be hard for many reasons and I'm nervous about that

TheLostNights · 31/08/2022 21:43

Mostly like it. I have hated this summer and been so uncomfortable with the heat. The fact that I don't have to worry about it getting to 40C for a good while makes me feel a lot happier. I love the colder months and the nights drawing in.
I do though see why people don't like it. Worry about heating the house in the months to come and that back to school feeling. Especially if you are a term time worker and have had school holidays off.

autumnlights · 01/09/2022 10:59

Autumn is my favourite season, but I admit I get a bit annoyed at people who try to embrace it too early. Autumn wreaths and decor are lovely, but to me September isn't autumn, it's late summer. It's normal to get hot sunny days up to October, so to me September is a month of enjoying the last few days of warmth and light that summer has to give before enjoying the cosiness of October and November.

MotherofPearl · 01/09/2022 11:01

I absolutely love September. I love the cooler weather, and I love the back to school feeling. I'm a sucker for routine I'm afraid, so rather enjoy getting back to that. Grin
