Liz Truss pulls out of Tory leadership interview with BBC veteran Nick Robinson

It would have been nice to hear about how Liz plans to run the country.

I feel exactly the same. Especially as people are so worried.

Exasperatednow · 30/08/2022 06:15

It's almost like she's trying to avoid her non existent plan bring scrutinised.

Exasperatednow · 30/08/2022 06:15

araiwa · 30/08/2022 06:47

If I was her, I'd avoid talking in public too

Anothernamechangeplease · 30/08/2022 06:58

Even she knows that her plans won't stand up to scrutiny. It is very worrying.

We can only hope that she is busy now working up some new plans because she has realised that what she has been promising to the Tories in order to get herself elected just won't cut it. She doesn't seem the type to get hung up on telling the truth or keeping promises, so once she is in power, she may not actually do any of the things that she has been talking about in recent weeks. Time will tell, I suppose.

ShandaLear · 30/08/2022 07:04

Well, she’s doing a Boris, isn’t she? Hiding and reneging on agreements. This should come as no surprise to anyone. Besides, it’s in her best interests not to. Most of us can’t vote for her and it’s better that she keeps her mouth shut so that we don’t all realise she’s as thick as two short planks. This will be the 3rd new prime minister in 6 years anyway, so there’s not much point in getting to know her. She’ll likely be gone in 12-18 months. This leadership contest has been dragged out for far too long and has created even deeper cracks in the Tory party. They’ll do to her what they did to Theresa May only it won’t take as long this time.

Yep.

She knows her plans appeal to the ERG and far right Tory members and will get her the votes.

That 0.3% who will make the decision for 68 million.

She knows once she's in she'll get none of her plans through parliament because they don't benefit the country - just the rich.

christmas2022 · 30/08/2022 07:07

Labour will win at the next election they are on borrowed time.

balalake · 30/08/2022 07:15

You are of course assuming there is a plan.

MissyB1 · 30/08/2022 07:19

It’s like Boris hiding in the fridge all over again.

VikingVolva · 30/08/2022 07:20

I don't think pulling out of one interview really matters, when both candidates are getting plenty of opportunities to speak to their electorate (ie party members)

Also not sure that there is a plan

balalake · 30/08/2022 07:15

Of course there is a plan.

The plan is for Liz to get elected, become PM and have her photo taken quite a lot.

Joshanddonna · 30/08/2022 07:21

Sorry it's got nothing to do with you. It's just a few hundred thousand mad mostly elderly far right nut jobs who get to decide. Liz is clearly very sane, entirely brilliant and does not have the common sense of a walnut despite always behaving like she does. Apparently she is going to Keep Nadine dorres in post so she is obviously super ok intelligent as well.
Having seen her interviewed I'm convinced this Is all a horrible dream and I'll wake up soon.

Nick Robinson would have destroyed her which is why she is suddenly busy.

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 30/08/2022 07:22

I misread your title as ruin which is apt
She is just a puppet for the ERG who don't care about anything other than their ability to make a lot of money

meditrina · 30/08/2022 07:23

It's just a few hundred thousand mad mostly elderly far right nut jobs

And then we wonder why society is divided.

The Tory party isn't "far right" (and it shows woeful lack of understanding to make that comparison) and the rest of that is just puerile insult.

FatOaf · 30/08/2022 07:24

Nick Robinson is a lifelong Conservative. He was a founder member of Macclesfield Young Conservatives, chairman of the National Young Conservatives and President of the Oxford University Conservative Association. He's the kind of person Truss and her fellow fundamentalists regard as a BBC lefty because he believes in Conservative rather than UKIP principles. Also, he is a skilled political journalist and asks probing questions. Truss's puppetmasters aren't going to let her be exposed to his sort.

In fairness, the Tory party as a whole has shifted significantly to the right in recent years, and we know that a lot of its members are significantly to the right of the parliamentary party, so I think it's fair to assume that quite a lot of them are pretty far right.

Isitsixoclockalready · 30/08/2022 08:00

If you can get her onto her favourite subject: 'wokeism' there's no stopping her. Anything else, not so much.

watcherintherye · 30/08/2022 08:10

Its a pity you had to resort to ageist and mental health jibes. There’s enough ammunition without that!

StoneofDestiny · 30/08/2022 08:32

She's copying Johnson - his 'plans' were never put before the public for scrutiny either. He was clueless, she is clueless - it's scary how the public are a complete irrelevance to Tories.
Truss stated her intention to ignore Scotlands democratically elected leader, now she is ignoring the British publics need for information - a pattern forming already!

PollyEsther · 30/08/2022 08:37

YABU because you spelt ‘ruin’ wrong.

Not sure why anybody is remotely surprised. Democracy is gone.

Well said.

anotherbrewplease · 30/08/2022 08:45

Gawd help us all!

And that is all I can say on the matter.

TBF I think puerile insults are the way to go.

CrotchetyQuaver · 30/08/2022 08:47

My gut feeling is she can't be trusted, it will be Boris all over again. I don't think Sunak deserves to be Prime Minister either for being the one who started this whole leadership contest off, but again my gut instinct is that he he is probably the better one of the two of them to get us through the the difficult times ahead.

She keeps banging on about tax cuts, where's the money going to come from to help everybody through the financial shit show that this winter and beyond looks like it's going to be? More borrowing isn't the answer

justfiveminutes · 30/08/2022 08:50

What an absolute disgrace that people are so worried about energy prices and the cost of living crisis, yet we are completely leaderless for another week, with no real idea what help, if any, we will receive.

And she cba attending an interview that might have provided some insight. How on Earth can she be the front runner? I hope people remember all of this at the next election.
