So, Ive been very excited to finally see one of my favourite bands live. But... there are very credible rumours on the internet that the lead singer has sexually assaulted young women.

wibu to still go?

At this point I think it’s harder to find a band who hasn’t

megletthesecond · 29/08/2022 12:09

What insert said. This could be one of several groups.

Whatyagonnadokatie · 29/08/2022 12:11

@InsertPunHere thats true! Was discussing with my husband and we were taking guesses at which bands we think weren’t doing this sort of thing.

dont know if being in a position of power makes some men think they’re entitled to take what they want/ do what they want to women.

it’s definitely rife with football players... a friend was on holiday and met a football player from a Scottish team. He walked her to her hotel room and tried to push his way in, screaming “don’t you know who I am?” She was like “I don’t give a fuck who you are”. She managed to get the door closed and called hotel reception who removed him

I don’t want to say the band because mn will then have to delete the thread

It's not for anyone else to say, it's a moral decision that only you can make. You are just looking for people to give you permission to go so that you won't feel so bad.

Shoxfordian · 29/08/2022 12:24

It’s up to you whether you want to support and pay towards the success of a potential rapist

chillipenguin · 29/08/2022 12:24

Why would you go?

Nagado · 29/08/2022 12:25

What MissFancyDay said. Personally, I wouldn’t feel comfortable going, but I’ve always struggled with the concept of separating the art from the artist.

Simonjt · 29/08/2022 12:27

If you don’t want to say the band you could give the venue and date, that way others intended to see them can make a choice.

badbaduncle · 29/08/2022 12:29

Arcade fire? I'm thinking the same. It's fucking horrific. I am a 'no' but DS is very torn

badbaduncle · 29/08/2022 12:30

Why can't we say it - it is in the news?

RomeoMcFlourish · 29/08/2022 12:31

It’s arcade fire, isn’t it? I wouldn’t go.

There are lots of artists I used to go and watch who I now wouldn’t.

Give us a clue?

badbaduncle · 29/08/2022 12:30

Why can't we say it - it is in the news?

Because it’s allegations at this stage, which means that MN is likely to delete the thread.

PinkFrogss · 29/08/2022 12:33

I wouldn’t personally OP. These men use their fame and fortune to get away with what they do, I wouldn’t want to be contributing to that

KTheGrey · 29/08/2022 12:36

Tricky as obviously this is somebody who is innocent until proven guilty. But I would give it a swerve because he would be well advised to take some time out to mend his reputation if he's innocent.

Whatyagonnadokatie · 29/08/2022 12:50

Sorry, I don’t want to say who it is due to everything now not being confirmed.

but I think we’ve reached indies #metoo moment.

Whatyagonnadokatie · 29/08/2022 12:51

Absolutely gutted as I am a huge fan of the band and have waited literally years to see them.

btw despite my username, it’s not the libertines. My username refers to my own name and predicament

DrFoxtrot · 29/08/2022 12:56

I think someone mentioned the band up thread. I'm going to see them next week, I've been before and it was the best concert I have ever been to.

It's a difficult decision, the person in question admits consensual activity outside of his marriage. He has not been found guilty, should we all vote with our feet on the back of allegations that may not be true? It has definitely tainted the upcoming show for me, but I am still planning to go.

Georgeskitchen · 29/08/2022 13:01

Has this person been arrested/charged/convicted of any crimes? If the answer is no you need to be very careful because a rumour is not the same as fact

SpaghettiNoodle · 29/08/2022 13:04

Meh, I’d go. Presumably you already have a ticket so they already have your money.

When my favourite band cancelled their final tour for similar reasons I was gutted. That said, when I was a teenager I probably would have given my right arm to sleep with one of them, and while they should know better I would have been entirely consenting (and while I’m at a different time in my life now so wouldn’t be interested, but if facts were the same I think I’d still be willing), so it does sort of depend how bad the allegations are…

SunnyD44 · 29/08/2022 13:16

Yes I would.

We know that there are many ‘celebs’ that do this sort of thing but we also know many that haven’t and people are lying to make money.

It’s hard to say without knowing who it is but if it’s not gone to court then I would still go.

Meraas · 29/08/2022 13:17

Don’t go!

rocketfromthecrypt · 29/08/2022 13:19

I don't think MN would have a problem with you saying the band name, OP - they allow people to call Prince Andrew a nonce all the time and he's never been convicted of anything I don't think.

As to whether or not to go - how would you feel if the allegations turned out not to be true, and you'd missed the gig? Could you go and enjoy yourself whilst it's hanging in the air?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/08/2022 13:19

I’d go.
