Plane seat choices

If you were going on a short haul plane journey with your partner and they wanted to sit in an aisle seat because of their long legs where would you prefer to sit?

I’m not particularly tall but I’m also not keen on middle seats so I’ve booked the aisle seat on the opposite side of the aisle. Is that so strange ?

YABU: Sit beside your DH in the middle seat you weirdo

YANBU: Aisle seats are the best (apart from Window). You’ve booked the best option.

Doesn't really matter and some time apart might be good

StoneofDestiny · 26/08/2022 21:51

Not strange - short haul hardly matters.

Ilikewinter · 26/08/2022 21:51

Weve done2 aisle seats before, better than being squashed in the middle.

PuttingDownRoots · 26/08/2022 21:52

If you had booked the window seat, leaving the middle free, it would have been wierd. Now a couple can chose those seats.

Across the aisle is still next to each other. I've travelled like that with my kids (then aged 6&4) as it was 2 seats on each side, and it was no different to sitting directly next to them.

MinervaTerrathorn · 26/08/2022 21:55

As long as neither of you are obstructing the aisle to talk to each other or sticking legs out as a trip hazard then it's a reasonable choice.

Lincslady53 · 26/08/2022 21:57

Going short haul as a couple we never reserve seats if there is an extra charge. We have only been sat separately with Ryanair, and we were both given seats with extra legroom. Otherwise, we have sometimes been next to each other, sometimes in aisle seats. We really don't care and would rather not hand over and extra few quid for something so unimportant.

Frazzled2207 · 26/08/2022 21:57

Across the aisle from each other is fine. Especially on long haul IMO! Both of us have an aisle seat, Everyone’s happy

ForfuckssakeEXHstopbeingatwat · 26/08/2022 21:59

would always choose across the aisle - we don;t need to hold hands on a Ryanair flight - its hardly a romantic setting!! but if we couldn't be arsed to choose, wouldn;t be that fussed to sit apart either.

mononymous · 26/08/2022 22:02

Me and my DH always book opposite aisle seats

MaggieFS · 26/08/2022 22:05

In your situation I'd probably do that, but I strongly prefer the window, so for anything over about three hours I'd say each to their own and book a window.

Ginger1982 · 26/08/2022 22:05

We always do opposite aisle seats if just the two of us.

GrandSlamFinalee · 26/08/2022 22:09

My preference is always window, then aisle. So that sounds fine. I never pre-book on short haul, can’t be fussed.

TiredzzZZ · 26/08/2022 22:12

YABU

I love my husband and enjoy sitting next to him. He's 6ft4 so we have had this scenario. He sits aisle and I sit next to him. Wouldn't want it any other way. That said, exit seats are pretty good if you can stump up the extra money

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 26/08/2022 22:15

Does it matter? Is he threatening to leave you over it?

Sit where the fuck you want an no need to come crawling to MN to validate your choice.

Yikes, yes you're right.
I have had a terrible day and took it out unnecessarily online.
Sorry.

But I still stand by the sit where you like comment, just maybe without the swear words...

That was meant to be a sweat droplet, not a tear droplet as it looks...

Ultravox · 26/08/2022 22:35

I don’t actually care where I sit. We’ll probably both be reading books or watching/listening to a podcast or tv series so can perfectly well cope with being apart for a couple of hours!

We usually just sit where the airline puts us but it’s Ryanair & they automatically sit you in the middle seats at opposite ends of the plane. So if DH is booking a slightly more comfortable seat then I figured I might as well too (a whole £4 each!)

However a couple of people have remarked that it’s unusual to both book aisle seats by choice so I just wondered if we were in the minority.

Just sit where you want to sit.

Where

PasTropCher · 26/08/2022 22:38

I don’t care at all. On a short flight every seat is fine.

Ultravox · 26/08/2022 22:43

Jeez - who pissed on your chips?

Some folks have remarked that it’s weird we C are not sitting “together”. I just wondered how weird I was.
