To think the strictly curse is just men prone to cheating

They call it the strictly curse

Is it both men and women that are prone to cheating fling into the limelight and inevitably the close contact, 1-1 time and their propensity to cheat just does it's thing?

Clearly it's not an actual curse so why don't they just say oh Adam Peaty is the latest cheater to join strictly ...

If someone is in the market for some cheating a sure-fire way to speed up that process is to put them in the company of an attractive dancer who they have to be in close physical contact with for hours on end, whilst staring into one another’s eyes.

Curse my arse.

SpinCityBlues · 24/08/2022 11:30

Can someone explain to me what's actually happened in little words please? I do watch bits of Strictly (alongside the very funny threads on here) Glitterball but this semi-personal-public stuff is beyond me.

yonce · 24/08/2022 11:32

I think it's obviously people who are pre disposed, then put in a situation they're spending hours and hours in very close physical contact with attractive people, who they have to trust and get along with - it's not a curse, it's cheaters being given opportunity.

RichardsGear · 24/08/2022 11:33

But has he cheated on his gf with someone from Strictly? That would be the only relevance of the programme to this story, surely?

LoveMeForARaisin · 24/08/2022 11:34

Is he though? The Katya thing was like a year ago. Why are people attributing this to the split with his girlfriend now? Have I missed something?

I think Adam Peaty’s split is probably more because he was only with his gf for three months before she got pregnant, and less to do with Strictly which was a year ago now.

Absolutely this. Kids having kids...
Poor little George.

To the best of my knowledge there are no dance moves which risk a man's penis accidentally falling in his partners vagina. That being the case they make a choice.

Has this ever happened the other way around? Have any women contestants left marriages/long term relationships for male dance partners? (can't recall if Dooley was already single when the contest started).

Alconleigh · 24/08/2022 16:22

Stacey had a boyfriend who was sitting in the audience with a rictus grin when it was blazingly obvious something was going on with her and Kevin.

But generally yes, put someone in a room for hours a day to rub up against someone insanely hot and stuffs going to happen, if both parties are interested. Whether single or not. Curse, not so much.

I agree, they barely knew eachother before and the amount of training he does is as much as a full time job, if not more. There's a reason why athletes tend to stick with athletes

Stacey Dooley - and Rachel Riley I think? Those two pop to mind.

SizzlerFizzler · 24/08/2022 17:27

Did Natasha Kaplinksy not have a thing with Brandan Whatsit back in the first series of Strictly in 1954. She may well have been a free agent though.

Simonjt · 24/08/2022 17:31

Stacey Dooley, Rachel Riley, Katya, Natasha (the news reader), if someones going to cheat they’re going to take a chance, if women weren’t cheating there wouldn’t be many people for straight men to cheat with really.

Well the cheat can cheat with a single man or woman - they are not responsible for the cheat's decision to cheat. If both are in relationships then both are cheating on their partners
Most of the male contestants seemed to be leaving for their single dance partners - Katya being the exception.

I wasn't sure that Dooley was in a relationship when she went onto Strictly and tbh Natasha/Brendan was just tabloid speculation I thought? I think Riley was the other one at the back of my mind. I probably don't pay enough attention to the surrounding buzz.

balalake · 24/08/2022 21:23

Yes more men seem prone to cheating, but I don't think that's the case on Strictly.

We are about to have the second cheater in a row as Prime Minister though.

Camesawconquered · 24/08/2022 21:27

The book by Rebecca Humpries about when her then partner Sean Walsh cheated on her is a really enlightening and empowering read.

As she digs through their story though, he seems like such a prick that it would have been more of a surprise if he hadn't cheated on her with his dance partner.

Adam Peaty has split up with his fiancee. The Daily Mail and the Mirror have made a story about it around the "strictly curse" and going just the right side of it by mentioning Katya Jones.

I don't think the split has anything to do with Katya or Strictly.

I agree with this (not casting judgement, just think the getting together was hastier than either of them intended due to little George, and not sure they are meant for each other really). Adam hasn't cheated (as far as we the public are aware anyway, I believe) and the split doesn't appear to be about cheating (that we know of). Although I do think Katya fancies Adam (based on having seen her (in a public arena) since strictly and heard the way she talks about him)

TiredzzZZ · 24/08/2022 22:54

How can it only be men? Surely these men are cheating with someone? Or are you proposing all cheats are gay men?

There were a lot of ridiculous stories in the press last year suggesting John Whaite was tempted by Johannes, when John is engaged. It was so disrespectful to his fiancé. Really stupid, really wrong.

Why are we babying 25 year olds? My DH was 26 when our DD was born and I was 20 we had been together for 15 months before I got pregnant. DD is now 9 years old and we are a happy family It was unplanned . People need to stop viewing the under 40s as children. 25 is a fully grown adult who knows the consequences of having sex.

TurquoiseDragon · 24/08/2022 23:02

I thought Rachel Riley finished with her husband before moving on to Pasha Kovalev, but she did say she didn't believe in a "Strictly curse" but that being on the show can show up cracks in a relationship.

Yeah, I think the press love to stir and the show wants people to believe there are affairs happening to boost their ratings. It's not fair on the contestants and professional dancers.
