AIBU to think that this world is becoming so screwed!
The stuff you read these days is truly horrifying.

The school is happy to support this WTF

It makes just as much sense as a male identifying as a woman. Only it seems that is acceptable apparently.

Smartiepanties · 22/08/2022 01:11

I hope the owners of the cat have a lovely cattery nearby for when they go on holidays.

Loopyloopy · 22/08/2022 01:12

You've missed the part where they have said that the student is non verbal. This is a bright kid who presumably is autistic, and cats are an area of special interest for her

The discussion of furry culture in this article is unnecessary.

CrapBag39 · 22/08/2022 01:12

I identify as a billionaire. Where can I get support to live as my true self?

I might try identifying as the owner of tesco next time I forget my club card and have to pay three times the price for everything 😂

I think you also missed the part where they talk of another student who has cut a slit in their uniform for an imaginary tail Confused

This has been going around and around for months and it's total bullshit from a gossip site.

WheresTheLambSauce · 22/08/2022 01:56

The article isn't very accurate, the furry subculture has some overlap with the otherkin subculture, (which the student seems to be part of, if she's identifying as a cat) but they're still separate. It comes across as fearmongering to be honest.

Fluffybull666 · 22/08/2022 02:12

They should give her catfood for lunch. She'd probably start "identifying" as a human again pretty soon 😆😆

I read it again, and honestly can't find that part. They also talk about several schools - a Melbourne school that's made accomodations for a non verbal teenager, and stupid rumours about some school in the US. At any rate, it's a daft article.

Aus84 · 22/08/2022 02:39

I don’t know why my reply above cut off, I don’t remember is word for word…
My DD has a Furry in her class. She doesn’t communicate with other students outside her circle except to purr or growl at them. Ive known her since she was 4 (now 16) and she was always a friendly outgoing child from a lovely family. She discovered furries through chat rooms and TikTok.

Marvellousmadness · 22/08/2022 02:45

Bhahahhahahahahbahahahhah
I would feed her fish and catfood for lunch. Bizarre behaviour and even more bizarre that the school goes along with it. The world is doomed

JustKittenAround · 22/08/2022 03:17

When I was very little I’d pretend to be a cat as well. My aunt even bought me a collar with a bell to play pretend. It soon died out and I gave my collar to my stuffed cat toy.

I was so little id meow and pretend. Nobody did anything but laugh and have fun with it. Kids do weird crap.

Yes, it’s embarrassing to recall and I am not sure why I did what I did.

I say all of this because I lived with very permissive people who would have let me pretend and such…. HOWEVER they’d NEVER in a million years have made anyone else bend a knee to my little kid fantasy. NEVER.

My little cat faze was before school, I hardly remember it. But it was a quirk that would never be pushed on others.

But then my family believes in science….

News.com.au is a news site. It's an offshoot of the Herald Sun which is a reputable newspaper.

I identify as a 49 year old woman.
Oh that's right I am 🤦‍♀️

Why would you post an article thats only source is "a source close to the family"? No wonder misinformation spreads so fast and so easily. 🙄

The HS is absolutely NOT a reputable newspaper. It is a Murdoch tabloid

I’d have to disagree with your assessment of News. But the point PP is making is that the “furry” angle has been picked up by News from an even less reputable source.

ViennaDreams · 22/08/2022 05:09

There’s a 12-year-old girl in my daughter’s class at school who tells people she’s a cat. She sometimes gallops across the school field on all fours, and she hisses and growls when she’s angry. She’s grown her nails and has been known to scratch with her ‘claws’ too.
She’s been doing this since primary school but it’s stopped being quirky and cute now she’s at secondary school. It’s like she really believes deep down that she IS a cat.

Dustyblue · 22/08/2022 05:14

I'm so hoping this is largely made up. If it's not, it's a Brave New World.

Obviously they'll have a 3rd bathroom filled with kitty litter.

Miaow, bitches.

cantley · 22/08/2022 05:46

Story is made up and published by the absolute dreck which is a Murdoch paper.
Anything for page views.

HelenHywater · 22/08/2022 06:20

There are some girls who are furries (in the non-sexual sense) in my dds' school . It seems quite harmless really.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 22/08/2022 06:22

That is fucking ridiculous. Why on earth do people pander to this? Are they just hoping their kids will get bullied?
