What worse - a boy peeing on the beach or a dog peeing on a footpath?

Just sat on the promende by a beach and saw a boy (7-8years old) pull his trunks down and pee on the sand before running off to carry on playing. Cue gasps of 'that's disgusting...did you see what that boy just did?!' From one lady. Less than 2 mins later her dog peed in the middle of the prom.

AIBU to think that dogs peeing on the pavemet where we walk, often barefoot is as bad, if not worse than a kid peeing in the sand that will get washed away by the tide?

Kids dig with their hands on the beach. It's disgusting. Our sea locally doesn't come the whole way up the beach. Children should know better by 7.

TopFun · 21/08/2022 20:33

Dog pee is worse.

Pee is sand is bad if kids would be playing in it. If it's getting washed away by the sea immediately, ok.

XenoBitch · 21/08/2022 20:34

A kid that age should know to ask to go to the toilet, and not just go there and then. That is what makes it disgusting.

vodkaredbullgirl · 21/08/2022 20:36

Sorry kid peeing in the sand, when he could find a loo.

Sunnyqueen · 21/08/2022 20:38

He should probably have gone in the sea lol but neither are the end of the world tbh.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 21/08/2022 20:38

Kid peeing on sand is much worse

gogohmm · 21/08/2022 20:38

A child of that age should know better, end of. Dogs don't know better

JerryGarcia · 21/08/2022 20:38

And salt is an antiseptic anyway so I bet the urine in salty, sea watery sand is cleaner than the urine on the pavement where lots of children were running barefoot. Just felt so angry with her as I watched the puddle of dog wee trickle along. I also think it's relevant that the little boy had brown skin and mostly everyone else around had white skin. She just seewd so virtuous as smug strolling along with her dog after talking about this little boy as though he was nasty.

A kid should know better. Dogs don't. People are barefoot on the beach and dig with their hands. Only the bottoms of our shoes touch the pavement.

Christonabike37 · 21/08/2022 20:39

You can also see pee on a pavement but not the sand.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/08/2022 20:41

Dog peeing on the pavement is much worse.

Kid should have peed in the sea though really.

PizzaPatel · 21/08/2022 20:41

Find dog pee more gross for some reason

SlagathaChristie · 21/08/2022 20:41

Peeing on the beach is worse. Going barefoot on the pavrment/promenade is not normal, and not a good idea.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 21/08/2022 20:43

i don’t think a 7/8 year person pulling down their clothing and peeing in public is at all acceptable

HorseInTheHouse · 21/08/2022 20:44

The child is worse. He should know better. If not corrected he'll grow into one of those men who think it's OK to piss all over the place in public.

mondaytosunday · 21/08/2022 20:49

A child, particularly of that age, can think 'oh I need the loo I'll go ask where there is one'. A dog is trained to pee outside - anywhere outside.
I live in London and I walk to the park. Inevitably my dogs wee along the way. They are animals. They don't think 'oh I need to wait til I'm in the park'. Nor do they have designated toilets.

akittyisyou · 21/08/2022 20:49

They’re both fine?

We’ve all been caught short at one point or another in our lives and had to have a pee somewhere public. Just because kiddo didn’t announce he was bursting before he did it, that doesn’t mean he wasn’t.

Also, there’s never ever any expectation of hygiene/cleanliness on a path unless it’s rubbish or dog poo. A dog pissing in a path is just normal.

MajorCarolDanvers · 21/08/2022 20:50

Neither should pee in the middle of the beach where people are sitting, playing and walking.

Child could have peed in the sea, found a toilet, gone behind a bush.

Dog should have been taken to the road, car park, somewhere else.

Itreallyistimetogo · 21/08/2022 20:52

Couldn't get upset about either of these.

AliTheMinx · 21/08/2022 20:53

The child is worse. He should know better. Yuck!

To be honest this is my view as well. I think the lady's massive over reaction to the boy made me over react to her dog.

At she seas are currently full of raw sewerage I find it hard to condemn either the boy or the dog, tbh. Their pee is so trivial compared to millions of litres of actual shit being pumped out in several locations, every day.

SalmonEile · 21/08/2022 20:57

im guessing she was more grossed out by the act of a human being urinating in public view rather than where the pee actually went

I think both acts of urination are equally gross
on the pavement is probably a bit worse coz it’ll dry all dry and be all stinky where as on the sand will get absorbed into the general mix of sand

onlythreenow · 21/08/2022 21:02

Obvioiusly a kid peeing in the sand. He was old enough to know better - and, as far as I know, dog loos don't exist and they have to go somewhere. Dogs pee on the footpaths all the time with no apparent ill effects (and I live in a country where it is quite common for bare feet to be seen, not just at a beach).

greywinds · 21/08/2022 21:05

He might've been old enough to know better but maybe he couldn't hold it? Some children at age 7 still can't.

Couldn't get excited about either case but agree people don't mind their own business enough.
