Day Out with one teenager not the others

If the younger (14 year old) teenager wanted to go out with us but the 16 year old didn't would you go out anyway and leave the 16 year old at home. After a morning of the 14 year ds, dh and I trying to persuade his brother which means we're leaving later than intended anyway that's what I've proposed to dh and the boys to do. Just taken his share of the sandwiches out the picnic and put them in the fridge

Wouldn’t think twice.

Nomoreminecraftplease · 21/08/2022 12:01

Should have been not the other. I have 2 boys

Of course. Why on earth would that be a problem?

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 21/08/2022 12:02

I'd just have left the 16 year old. He's old enough to stay home and look after himself.

tenterden · 21/08/2022 12:03

Of course - why would you try to force them to come and be miserable all day?

Just say you hope he enjoys his day of "me time" and you will bore him stupid about your day out when you get back.

Nomoreminecraftplease · 21/08/2022 12:03

Yes normally wouldn't either but he was keen last night and been dithering this morning. Also 14 years old definitely wants to come and hasn't been ready for hours butter wants histiocytosis brother to come too

Of course! Why is this even a question?! What's the alternative, you only go out as a whole family or not at all?!

confusednewbie · 21/08/2022 12:04

Done it many times since dd turned 14

ItsAlwaysThere · 21/08/2022 12:05

Of course

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 21/08/2022 12:05

His brother doesn't want to go, it's not upto the 14 year old whether he goes or not.

Oh well, the 14 year old doesn't get to choose.

16 is more than old enough to decide whether he wants to stay home or not. 14 year old can either stay home with his brother, or go alone.

This is embarrassing. My autocorrect has just given away My very rare childhood disease!

It happens, I didn't even notice it was a disease until you said. I just assumed you did what I did and join up words sometimes by accident without pressing spacebar

redskyatnight · 21/08/2022 12:09

At those ages it would very much be "we're doing this thing tomorrow, be ready by x time if you want to come". We do have family days as well, but get everyone's agreement in advance that they are happy to do whatever.

Not a thing that's worth the battle.

Just do the trip. 16 is plenty old enough to come or not.

I can’t see the problem - unless the 16 year old is just going to sit in all day gaming and they already did plenty of that during the week?

Its the dithering and will he won't he. And his brother trying to persuade him. Driven me nuts
