I don’t want our neighbour to keep running her airbnb

We live in a 6 house cul de sac, have been living here for years and get along great with our neighbours. None of the houses even have fences separating the back gardens.

A few months ago we started seeing different cars and people showing up to this one house for 3-4 days at a time. Another neighbour asked what was up and owner said they were just friends visiting. Well that’s a lot of very organised friends as they always show up hours after the other one has left!

Anyway I just don’t like it, this is the house next to ours and every time someone new comes in and parks they can see right inside our kitchen and it’s just uncomfortable as it’s multiple different people every week.

I also definitely do not like sharing our outside area with total strangers. They literally could be anyone! I have tried finding the listing on all websites but can’t seem to find it and even if I did there’s no way I could bring it down but it still annoys me

YABU. It’s not your property and not your choice.

JubileeTissues · 21/08/2022 10:46

Blinds for the kitchen and a fence for the garden

44PumpLane · 21/08/2022 10:46

Given that your only complaint is "I just don't like it" then yes, YABU.

If they were parking inconsiderately, making noise, being unruly or untidy etc then you might have a point, but you've not mentioned any of that.

Put a fence up to demark your garden if it bothers you when they are in the neighbours garden and for security, but other than that it doesn't sound like an issue.

fufflecake · 21/08/2022 10:47

Move or get a fence

abovedecknotbelow · 21/08/2022 10:48

Well get a fence

TeapotTitties · 21/08/2022 10:49

Blinds and a fence then.

It's a lot more productive than getting wound up about it.

BronzeSage · 21/08/2022 10:49

I don't like it either. Broken garden wall and too much noise.

ihatebojo · 21/08/2022 10:49

Can't you talk to her and share your concerns?

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 21/08/2022 10:53

I can totally understand you not liking it.
I can totally understand you being PO your neighbours lied to you
I can totally understand you thinking the neighbours should have told you do that you could have got a blind/sorted out a fence or whatever else you wanted to fo
i can understand you being annoyed from a safety/security POV.

have you checked your council regulations? Are they allowed to do this?

I wonder if they have a mortgage/if they do if their bank allows it?

Are they still around or have they vanished now?

id try to talk to them, failing that I'd send them a letter & hope they have a redirect on.

have the other neighbours said anything to you about it?

DesertOrchi · 21/08/2022 10:55

Airbnb should be banned.

NannyOggsWhiskyStash · 21/08/2022 10:56

How do you know it's an Air BnB? Does the owner bugger off when the visitors arrive? You could just put a fence and some blinds up.

Send them a letter saying what? It's annoying but not up to you op. Its their property not yours

Afterfire · 21/08/2022 10:57

There’s nothing you can do apart from get a fence and some blinds!

SupDuck · 21/08/2022 10:57

Not having a boundary on your property is quite unusual. Do none of you have dogs?
I like my neighbours but I like my own space to relax in too. I’d put a fence up.

GoneWithTheWine1 · 21/08/2022 10:57

Get a fence and some blinds.
I hate AirBnBS they should be banned. No wonder We have a housing crisis.

AtillatheHun · 21/08/2022 10:59

They’re only allowed to air bnb for 30 days / year before it becomes a commercial venture and mortgages/ insurance/ rates need paying accordingly. Have you kept track of how many nights it’s rented?

Floralnomad · 21/08/2022 11:00

Put a fence up .

Rapidtango · 21/08/2022 11:01

Is it the whole house being rented or are they just renting a room out? If it's just a room, I wouldn't have an issue at all, assuming the owners are also living in the house and will clamp down on noise etc.

Get a curtain or blind for your window and a fence.

vodkaredbullgirl · 21/08/2022 11:01

Blinds, fence

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/08/2022 11:04

JubileeTissues · 21/08/2022 10:46

Blinds for the kitchen and a fence for the garden

Sorted !

Just put some window film up or have a magic blind so they can't see in but you can still see out.

I'd be more twitchy about the communal garden tbh, get some fences up!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/08/2022 11:05

** and unless they're having all night parties this has no impact on you any more than if they had lots of friends visiting.

goshy · 21/08/2022 11:06

well air bnbs can be annoying but they don't seem to actually have one.

I think it's a bit weird to be so bothered about strangers looking in your windows though.

TheBestBitch · 21/08/2022 11:07

It’s none of your business

goshy · 21/08/2022 11:07

the op just seems bothered that there are strangers about.
