To expect good quality towels for under £20 each?

User112 · 21/08/2022 08:07

Ordered some really nice looking towels from Christy. The towels I bought from here about 4 years ago were such good quality and washed really well. They have now thinned a bit from frequent use over the years so ordered new ones.
The new set are awful, quite thin already - asda towels seem fluffier!!

where do you buy good quality towels under £20 ?

I admit I’ve been snobbish about supermarket towels. That’s perhaps the best way to go now.

Not sure how much they are, but I get my towels from Dunelm. They are thick and wash really well. I’m ashamed to say I’ve had some of mine for many years !

gunnersgold · 21/08/2022 08:12

I think towels are all the same 🤷‍♀️... if you wash and dry them correctly they all act the same . If you don't and leave them on a line to dry to a crisp they all do the same thing.

I have primark towels which are still exactly the same years later !

I grew up with a lot of money and had fancy stuff and now I choose not to although I can afford it and frankly I can't see any difference .

Matildahoney · 21/08/2022 08:12

I've had my Christy towels 15 years and they're still lovely.
Worthing the last couple of years I've bought some from Primark & they're lovely, better than some I have from Sainsbury's!

BuenoSucia · 21/08/2022 08:17

Im not sure you can. Last decent towel I bought was £25 25 years ago and is only now looking tatty.

so god knows what you’d pay for that quality today.

I've bought Sheridan's towels from brand alley on sale but you might consider hotel supplies. When we stayed at a holiday cottage they have these towels and bedding and it all seems very nice quality so I made a note of the company.

Now I'd have to disagree with that. Some start fluffy and go thin and hard, however you wash them. I've had Christy towels recently and they weren't great.

I usually buy JL towels but I've bought my son towels from Amazon and they are lush. Big, soft and fluffy. Strangely they usually seem to be packs of two on Amazon, which is a bit annoying, but these were two generous sized bath towels for about £25.

I have just bought 2 bath sheets from M&S outlet for £11.50 each and perfectly fine. I once got some lovely Orla Keily ones from TK Maxx cheap. Still going strong. The Egyptian range from Marks are good. Barh sheet was 19.50 and lovely. I do like a decent sized towel when getting out of the shower looking at you hotels

fufflecake · 21/08/2022 08:44

Tesco

Pootle40 · 21/08/2022 08:48

Hands down dunelm are the best towels for the price. Thick and fluffy. I also hate thin towels.

WhatsitWiggle · 21/08/2022 08:49

M&S Egyptian cotton towels

Lockheart · 21/08/2022 08:51

I have two towels from Asda which I bought when I went to university 15 years ago. They have a bit of bleach staining but they're fine.

I also have a Ralph Lauren one which is about 10 years old too.

abovedecknotbelow · 21/08/2022 08:52

Dunelm, the more expensive thicker ones are fab but I think they were £25 for bath sheet size

ThatshallotBaby · 21/08/2022 08:52

@lot123
Could you share which brand you got on Amazon please?
I have a slight towel fetish and usually buy Christy in the sales, but I won’t if they aren’t as good as they used to be.

So weird I'm looking to get new towels to replace ours, perfect timing for this thread Grin

We don't have a tumble drier - any suggestions of how to dry towels so g the they don't end up stiff and crispy?

Quitelikeacatslife · 21/08/2022 09:04

Just got some from dunelm and they are lovely and soft , so many to choose from there. I nearly went for dorma , their premium brand but went for their best one brand ones and they are so nice

LakieLady · 21/08/2022 09:13

John Lewis. Not only do they stay nice and soft and fluffy, but they have a fantastic range of colours.

I have both these

Ultra soft

and these

Egyptian cotton

The biggest size is a little more than £20, but not much, and they often have offers. And you can collect from Waitrose, so that saves the delivery charge.

I dry mine indoors, hung from hangers from the curtain rails. They don't go hard.

HipsterCoffeeShop · 21/08/2022 09:17

Dunelm here too - their premium own brand.

Still fluffy six months on, but I had to completely change the way I wash and dry towels as all my previous brands went crispy.

Gentle wash, I use the wool cycle, tumble dry til damp then hang up. Previously I would use a hot wash and just hang them straight up.

PinkiOcelot · 21/08/2022 09:20

Primark. I was in there yesterday and feeling the towels. They felt lovely and thick. £11 for a bath sheet.

Get a bit of rain on them. Sounds strange but it works. Ideally hung up on a drizzly morning then a blowy afternoon.

Milknosugarta · 21/08/2022 09:20

Tesco fox and ivy. Thick and soft.

Silverswirl · 21/08/2022 09:30

I don’t have a tumble dryer or a shower curtain inside and am clueless about how to dry towels!
My other washing goes on at 40 degrees colours or 60 whites.
It then gets hung outside if it’s dry between March-oct or inside on a heated airer.
They go hard / crispy quickly 😣

Upwiththelark76 · 21/08/2022 09:33

John Lewis everyday range.

SparrowsNest · 21/08/2022 09:36

I have had good towels from Dunelm, TK Maxx and Sainsburys.
