To expect good quality towels for under £20 each?

Ordered some really nice looking towels from Christy. The towels I bought from here about 4 years ago were such good quality and washed really well. They have now thinned a bit from frequent use over the years so ordered new ones.
The new set are awful, quite thin already - asda towels seem fluffier!!

where do you buy good quality towels under £20 ?

I admit I’ve been snobbish about supermarket towels. That’s perhaps the best way to go now.

When I was moving and had to be in the new place for work before getting all my stuff from the old place. I picked up a cheap bath towel from primark.

It's bloody brilliant, comes up fluffy after every wash, lovely and thick. I can't quite believe what a good buy it was compared to much more expensive ones I have.

LubaLuca · 21/08/2022 09:53

The best towels I have have came from Costco. So thick and fluffy.

BarbaraofSeville · 21/08/2022 10:00

You've answered your own question in the OP. Asda Egyptian cotton. I just get them in the sales and if you're not bothered what colour you get, they're very cheap.

But I'm now intrigued by Dunelm so will check them out next time we need towels.

BarbaraofSeville · 21/08/2022 10:03

We also have a very nice hand towel from Matalan, not sure how as I didn't buy it.

I think the moral of the story is fancy branded towels are a waste of money and supermarkets and mass market homeware stores are the way to go.

JerkintheMerkin · 21/08/2022 10:06

I love Dunelm towels. Thick, bouncy, good sizes. I go for the ones with the little material hooks as can't abide towels falling on the floor. Had mine for well over a decade and still look like new.

SoftSheen · 21/08/2022 10:08

John Lewis.

anotherpotoftea · 21/08/2022 10:09

Asda towels are great! We have some that have lasted really well for years and years.

ArtichokeAardvark · 21/08/2022 10:10

Egyptian cotton ones from John Lewis or M&S, but wait for the sales.

Alittlenonsensenowandthen · 21/08/2022 10:11

Our Dunelm ones are 5years old and still thick and soft. My habitat ones from 17 years ago when it was still a shop are going strong!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 21/08/2022 10:13

Bought some surprisingly nice ones from Tesco a couple of year ago. Still going strong, thick, fluffy.

tellyiscrap · 21/08/2022 10:14

I paid £3.50 for a bath sheet recently in Tesco , £2.50 for the next size down

Absolutely fine .. no not luxurious or 4 inch thick but I'm happy with them

BeaLola · 21/08/2022 10:22

I usually buy from M&S and have some15+ years

Last time I went to beauty salon for a facial I noted that towels were a lovely unusual colour and very soft and fluffy - looked at label - were from Dunelm - thought I would give them a go next time I need some

Kualma · 21/08/2022 10:38

I have a John Lewis jumbo bath sheet towel and it is gorgeous. I also have a Sainsbury’s & Tesco one and the difference is clear in absorption and didn’t shrink in the wash at a high temperature.

Caspianberg · 21/08/2022 10:41

King of cotton.
They are hotel suppliers as well, so all towels and bedding do well with regular hot washing.

Ours are about 5 years old. And wash up fluffy like new still.

Dunelm. I bought their bath sheets 20+ years ago and it's now time to replace them. I will replace them with the same towels from Dunelm. I think the sheets are £18.

Piglet89 · 21/08/2022 12:05

OP I read the title of your thread and immediately thought “the ones my husband got as emergency towels from a supermarket are great”. They remain fluffy after washing and line drying in this weather. I will look at label when I get home; I’m very happy with them.

perimenofertility · 21/08/2022 12:13

I got a couple of bath sheets from M&S recently. Was shocked to pay £18 each for them so hope they last! They do feel soft, not overly fluffy but definitely soft which is what I wanted (don't like them too chunky/fluffy).

rocksonrocks · 21/08/2022 12:18

Another vote for John Lewis' Egyptian cotton range. Superb quality and durability and soooo fluffy!

WestendVBroadway · 21/08/2022 12:26

We went on holiday last year and didn't bother take towels as we knew the hotel supplied them. Well they were barely bath towels let alone bath sheets, so we bought some in Primark as didn't want to spend a fortune as had plenty good quality ones at home. Reader they were and still are lovely and fluffy.

ThatshallotBaby · 21/08/2022 16:06

@hop321
Thank you 😀

wishingitwasfriday · 21/08/2022 16:13

The white company towels are fantastic. Used some at a friends when staying there and was so impressed I bought some when I got home. Got them in the sale and they were around £18/20 for a bath sheet.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 21/08/2022 19:33

Thanks for the drying tips Grin
