I’ll blame the journalists, but I know it’s not just them. So easy if mildly miffed to having suffered a horrendous experience to say

“it’s disgusting, I’m disgusted”

cost of living crisis? Disgusting

found a fly in you holiday hotel - disgusting

utility price increase Disgusting

war in Ukraine - disgusting

immigrants - disgusting

rich people - disgusting

auuuuuugh. Reminds me of Jilly Cooper’s Class

If my local Facebook groups are anything to go by I thought the common spelling had now evolved to “discusting”

Ameanstreakamilewide · 20/08/2022 09:37

I'm fed up with hearing/reading 'it's a joke'.

PuttingDownRoots · 20/08/2022 09:40

Its absolutely disgusting how its overused.

Twilightimmortal · 20/08/2022 09:41

I always think about that youtube video about not flushing a poo away.

Disgusting!

pictish · 20/08/2022 09:48

I like ‘discustin’ on our residents Facebook forum. I’ve only actually seen it about three times but it really tickled me. It’s a misspelling you can hear. 😆

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 20/08/2022 09:51

Agree, OP. I also am so tired of everyone being 'obsessed with.' No one can simply be fond of anything anymore.

Disgusting!

Same 😅

DigitalGoat · 20/08/2022 10:13

I couldn't agree more OP

Disgusting should be reserved for serious stuff like criminality, or at a push, the toilets at certain music festivals.

Instead it gets used to express middle class hangups like the mere existence of a toilet brush.

Tiredalwaystired · 20/08/2022 10:15

And how, according to the papers everyone is “furious”

Not annoyed, irritated or disgruntled. Full unbridled FURY!

Kittyhoward · 20/08/2022 10:15

I can't cope with "terrifying" just so dramatic.

Oysterbabe · 20/08/2022 10:16

People really should try and broaden their vocabulary. I blame the schools. Disgusting.

DustinsHat · 20/08/2022 11:11

I see 'vile' more than disgusting.

Jollyhungry · 20/08/2022 11:16

DustinsHat · 20/08/2022 11:11

I see 'vile' more than disgusting.

Vile is the middle class version and it's even worse! Disgusting in fact!

Yorkshireswithallroasts · 20/08/2022 11:17

Also 'shaking and panicky' and/or 'sobbing' for 'a bit upset'

Fairislefandango · 20/08/2022 12:26

Some things are disgusting, so YABU if you're just objecting to the word itself. YANBU if you mean that people using it about very minor, non-disgusting things is a bit silly and irritating. Ditto with 'vile'.

I find the sobbing, shaking and retching (or 'wretching') brigade a lot more irritating than the disgusted ones though.

funinthesun19 · 20/08/2022 12:35

I’m fuming.

APJ1 · 20/08/2022 13:58

I always think about that youtube video about not flushing a poo away.

Oh yes!

Mercurial123 · 20/08/2022 14:59

I like vile, it's way better than disgusting. Personally I hate it when people are described as "mean" it's something a child would say.

Pansypotter123 · 20/08/2022 15:15

I agree. It's grim...

ilovesooty · 20/08/2022 15:18

Pansypotter123 · 20/08/2022 15:15

I agree. It's grim...

I'm utterly sick of 'grim'.

ScoobyDoNot · 20/08/2022 19:36

I think its an absolute joke to be honest. I'm crying and shaking just thinking about it..

Mumspair1 · 20/08/2022 19:51

I hate the 'Rediculous' spelling on here. I see it on FB too. This is from intelligent people too, so I even wondered whether I had it wrong.

Calphurnia88 · 21/08/2022 10:10

I'm not a fan of the term 'batshit' but I only ever see it on here...

Don't ask me why but I always think the person using it must think they're really edgy 😂

Pussycat22 · 21/08/2022 10:29

Read Jilly Cooper's book Class, you'll understand then!

bellac11 · 21/08/2022 10:31

Most people on MN are 'livid'.

Usually because they cant control their partner
