Left in full view. Described as an Enclosed Porch (it isn’t)which I nominated as my safe space (I didn’t).

I have loads of neighbours who would have taken it in.

and now it has gone missing.

What has the parcel delivery company said?

StoneofDestiny · 18/08/2022 20:33

I agree - I've had that too saying I agreed a 'safe space', I never have. Also saying 'enclosed porch' - it's not. Wondering if they have a 'go to' list of comments to choose from.

My vote goes to Evri (aka Hermes)

Bluebells12 · 18/08/2022 20:57

Yep. Many of my parcels just get dumped on my doorstep in full of the road. I don’t mind when they hide it in the bin, but leaving an expensive book in a cardboad packet in the rain?! Really?!

And often they say ‘handed to resident’ when I’m out!

MistyGreenAndBlue · 18/08/2022 21:00

I shouldn't bother trying to contact the courier. Complain to the retailer. It's their problem, they hired them.

My guess is actually Amazon! They have got really bad lately and just seem to dump it and run! I think they just assume someone is home and don't want to waste time waiting for someone to come to the door. My DH goes mad, as we live on a busy road so if we weren't home, it would 100% get knicked.

Hermes have always rang the bell and waited for someone to answer and if not they will put it in the recycling bin or leave it with a neighbour!

fortheloveofcheesecake · 18/08/2022 21:13

I had a laptop in a box marked 'LAPTOP' left on my doorstop in full view of the busy street. The sender had paid extra for it to be signed for. The courier didn't bother with that bit. Luckily I popped home during the working day and found it there!

yonce · 18/08/2022 21:17

Evri put my parcels in a full black bin today 😂 literally on top of a pile of black bin bags and then left the bin lid open as it wouldn't close with the boxes in.

Not sure if that's worse than last week, when they put it in a full green bin (full to the brim with fresh grass cuttings that had been marinading in the 36* temperatures) - the smell was divine.

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 18/08/2022 21:17

This drives me bonkers I want my parcels left in my porch not thrown on my driveway and left in the rain. I'm looking at you Evri, you may have changed your name but service is still pants.

badgerybadgerboo · 18/08/2022 21:19

Evri did this to me yesterday. I have a nominated neighbour as a safe place and they left it on the doorstep in the rain. I'm away on holiday....

The delivery driver took a photo and everything! As if I should be grateful.

Then Next ask me to rate my delivery! No idea if it's still on the doorstep, with my neighbour or stolen as my neighbour is elderly and I don't expect her to wander around looking for potential abandoned parcels! :(

badgerybadgerboo · 18/08/2022 21:21

Oh and the reason why my Next parcel arrived while im on holiday is because Evri didn't deliver on time even though I paid for next day delivery. It was 3 days late!

😢

Tiani4 · 18/08/2022 21:23

Oh my Lord all the delivery companies lie

"Left in safe space - nominated by Mrs X "- no it wasn't as a) I haven't !) you didn't even ring my doorbell ne c) I WAS IN. I saw you arrive Chuck my parcel at my front door and leave before I even got downstairs. And never nominate any ' safe space'

Handed to resident - NO IT WASNT AS I WAS AT WORK and no one else was in you left it on my open porch you liar!

Luckily none of mine have gone missing ...
Whatcha gonna do? They filed to deliver it as it isn't there?

Tiani4 · 18/08/2022 21:23

*failed

TheTeddyBears · 18/08/2022 21:47

This happens to me more and more often these days. Especially if there's still a car in drive 🤷🏻‍♀️ but they leave it with no cars there too! Mostly they put it over the fence or in a bin but sometimes it's just left at my front door. In plain sight of many houses and folk that pass walking their dogs. It's a nice neighbor hood so luckily it's always there!

One time I hadn't had a delivery went on to next to check tracking and there was a picture of it in my cardboard bin saying it had delivered the previous week! First thoughts were 😦 I think that bin was emptied but went out and looked. Thankfully hadn't been emptied but I had to remove half the stuff in the bin to find it!

gogogadgetgo · 18/08/2022 21:59

My Amazon driver has recently decided my car is a good spot. Leaving packages by the wheel or on the windscreen. (Even better that parcel wasn't even for me but a neighbour about 200 metres away).

Heaven forfend they open the gate and come anywhere near the house.

I've had to leave delivery instructions that the thing with wheels is not my house.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 18/08/2022 22:00

Yeah this has happened to me. The tracking info says 'package left securely in porch' and it's just been left on the doorstep at the door on the side of our house. And funnily enough there's never a photo when they put this lie.

I don't even HAVE a fucking PORCH, so I could prove their asses wrong every time. It's been several couriers who have done this. Evri/Hermes, Amazon, and DHL...

Luckily I live at the top of a small-ish road, and people don't pass often. And people get to my door at the side before the front one, so they tend to leave packages there...And the door at the side is hidden from the road by bushes. So packages cannot be seen. AND it's a very low crime rate area. Still, it's possible a package COULD go missing.

I do try and select a safe space and say 'put in shed or behind shed or in garage,' but sometimes you don't get given that choice to select a safe space.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 18/08/2022 22:21

One thing that really just properly pisses me off is when a courier delivers a package to our house that's not for us. This has happened a few times and it's on my husbands watch EVERY TIME. When he answers the door he just grabs any package and doesn't look if it's for us or anything.

A couple of times it has just been for a house 2 doors up - like say we're number 1 and it was meant for number 3, so I just go and take it to them. However, a couple of times it's been delivered to us - to our number and our road - but with somebody else's name and I haven't known who they are. One time a package was delivered by Hermes, and it was huge, and DH took it in, even though it didn't say our name. Our address but not our name!!! It was someone else's...

I know a few people in our road - - a small handful maybe five or six by name - but not everybody, and it wasn't anybody's name that I knew. I opened the package as there was NO CLUE on the package where it was from, and inside was around £350 worth of goods. The company was named on the 'invoice.'

So I phoned the company and told them the courier made a mistake and can they contact them quickly and come back to get the package back... 'Oh we don't do that' they said.. 'you need to package it back up and take it to the post office and send it back to us.' Absolute fucking cheek.

I said 'I live 4 and a half miles from the nearest post office in my local market town, and I am not going to go up there and spend half an hour queuing in the post office, spending my time sending this back to you when it was your mistake (or the courier's mistake or the person who ordered it.)' Then I put the phone down. Anyway I rang Hermes then and could not get a single person to answer. Couldn't get hold of them on the internet either. Just some cuntbox bot called Holly.

I hung onto it for a day or two thinking 'what the hell should I do with it' when this girl came to my house from quite a few doors down. It was supposed to be number 21 on the label, and somebody somewhere put number 1 in error and it was delivered to us.

She said she went all round the houses in the road looking for the doorstep off the photo (that her package had been left at,) and she checked for about an hour around different houses and saw that it was my doorstep (she recognised the distinctive ornament outside.) So a couple of days later it got to the right person but she was fuming because she said 'we're not stupid we put number 21 when we ordered the stuff, and some idiot put number 1 on the delivery details.'

And the delivery company AND the company she bought the items from were both useless.

badgerybadgerboo · 18/08/2022 22:21

No car on my drive as we're away and they still left it on the doorstep in the rain.

Evri needs a new slogan.... "Evri chance your parcel will go missing!"

This is one of the reasons why we got a ring for our house! Caught one delivery last year, can't remember which courier service now though, ring went off when I was at work, no one in, he literally walked down our drive with a large long parcel, proped it up against the front door in full view of the road, knocked once then walked straight back to his van, didn't even wait one second to see if anyone would answer and left no note, then got a notification on my phone saying it had been delivered and asked for a rating!!! You bet your ass I left the shittest review! Lucky is wasnt stolen!!

5foot5 · 18/08/2022 23:35

Not just couriers. Our postman made me cross the other day.

There are two different ones. The postwoman who sometimes runs is great. Always cheerful and sensible and energetic (though I suspect at least in her 40s. ) Then a younger bloke, the one I now think of as the idiot. This is why.

I ordered an item of clothing on line. The delivery had tracking so I knew it was due and I was in the house expecting it. I suddenly became aware of a sound coming from the letter box in the front door. Not a knock, there was never a knock or any attempt to get my attention. When I went to the hall I could see this postman trying to squeeze a parcel that was clearly WAY too big for the letter box through the opening anyway. I rushed to the door to try and stop him but by then he had forced it half way through and it was almost stuck. We eventually managed to free it but by then the packaging was badly torn. The internal packaging was quite robust but was also damaged in places. By great good fortune the garment escaped unharmed. But it was such a stupid thing to do. I was in the house and expecting the delivery and could have been at the door in seconds if he had knocked, there was no need to try and force it through the door.

ToppCat · 18/08/2022 23:51

I’ve just given Evri a lousy review for delivering a large parcel to the front garden of my neighbour. I got a notification it had been delivered and had to go looking for it. Useless.

Stormyinacoffeemug · 19/08/2022 00:11

Parcel accepted by household - no, you drove away before I could get to the door

Parcel left in secure porch - no, I don't have a porch, it was left on the doorstep in full view of the street in a high crime area

Left in secure area - hello fresh box, left in the FULL waste bin

Left in secure porch as requested - again, no porch and I specifically wrote 'I AM IN, DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL I ANSWER' - they didn't even knock, I checked the door 40mins later after getting the email saying delivered successfully

Left securely as requested - I specifically stated 'I will be in for the specifically stated delivery time. DO NOT leave parcel outside of the specifically designated time'

OnaBegonia · 19/08/2022 00:21

Yes there are some lazy couriers but there are many conscientious ones.
My friend works for courier and has 5 star rating for customer feedback.
His pet gripes are ppl taking ages to get to the door, then can't find keys, mark safe place ie shed and the gate/shed is locked.
Also the pp mentioning Next parcel
being late, that's not down to the courier as they pick up their parcels
every day. so when you give them a poor review for a late delivery it's them personally who is marked down even though it's outwith the couriers control.
