Insult me

WineIsMyCarb · 13/08/2022 01:48

Vis Salman Rushdie stabbing, JK Rowling's address being publicised on social media for giving her opinion (shared by majority of country) various people having their livelihoods or wellbeing threatened because they have said or done something that is legal but someone finds objectionable. I'm a bit drunk and fucking cross. Insult and offend me. Crack on. Exercise your right to attempt to give offence and my prerogative to not take offence. Here's some meat to get you started.

  • there are two human sexes. Wear what you fucking want but there's no such things as crossing or transient sexes. Just dresses and doc martin boots.
-dont like tattoos, you like like you think you're unique, you aren't.
  • its in the UK's best interest for the highest court in the land to be based here, not in a supranational organisation (Brexit voter, so juicy meat here)
  • the NHS has already failed and needs a northern / western European model replacement asap
  • most of the COVID lockdowns / restrictions did more harm than good

There you go. Be offended. Take umbrage. Shout at me. See how that's actually ok and we can agree to disagree and you don't need to send the rozzas round because we take a different view to one another or I put a POV on the internet.

Say what you like to me, I choose not be be offended.

No one can think that about tattoos now
they're freaking everywhere

i used to like them but not now I see so many sleeve tatts or tatts in weird places.

on that subject - I wish people would put themselves away! I know it's hot but show some civility. Don't treat the Tube like the beach. Bleuch.

pictish · 13/08/2022 03:23

Agree about tattoos…ubiquitous now and rarely well executed either. I like good tattoos but I seldom see one. The vast majority are crap.

Turnthatoff · 13/08/2022 04:25

Talking of tattoos, did anyone see the (insta?) post by Tommy Lee (it was a selfie…sort of)

WineIsMyCarb · 13/08/2022 07:08

I did not @Turnthatoff . Dare I Google it?

Verbena87 · 13/08/2022 07:17

Vaguely socialist tattooed leftie here. Disagree to various degrees with all your bullet points. Still not in any way keen to insult you because you are so right about the importance of seeing that disagreement about ideas is normal and desirable and not a threat.

I think if there was less shouting/ramming down throats and more listening in the world things would be a lot better.

Hope you have a lovely weekend.

PollyRockets · 13/08/2022 07:20

Again pretending the majority of people share her view

You are a vocal minority

Never forget that

Well, it’s nsfw. He seems to be very happy with his inked body. Errr, VERY happy indeed.

Disagree @Twawmyarse
I am "right of centre / libertarian" ( basically do what you like as long as I don't have to pay for it!) And many of my left leaning friends IRL don't take the shout the loudest approach. Seems to be social media led. So here we are.

Thanks for disagreeing with me. Hope you are still alive and kicking as a result!

I read that as librarian!

WineIsMyCarb · 13/08/2022 07:35

Thanks @Verbena87 . Well you're always welcome to come back and call me names if something we disagree on stews in your head a bit and makes you cross. Failing that, have a good weekend too!

Oooh hi @PollyRockets . You think I'm the vocal minority about sex/Brexit/tattoos or about the giving and taking of offence? If you are offended as well as disagree you can call me names if you like. If it helps to find some material, I'm about 2 stone overweight and am overpopulating the planet with my 3 children. 😪

Also not able to remove the wrong 'smiley' before clicking 'post' for some reason so am also a luddite

There was only one aspect of your strange post to claim was a majority view

Thankfully your view, and JKRs views are minority opinions

JimTheShit · 13/08/2022 07:40

i hope the OP is asleep and took the advice of a previous poster re paracetamol and pint of water.

OP I agree, none of us was born with the right to not be offended.

I also agree with a lot of your points except Brexit. Two points: firstly are you happy with the way Brexit has turned out? If you had your time again would you vote the same way?

My second point relates to the first. If you did decided you regretted voting for Brexit (and I’m not suggesting you do regret it) would you admit to it or double down? The reason I ask - and it applies to far more than Brexit - is that rather than ever admit that they were wrong about anything, people seem to double down. Politicians are guilty of this, I see it a lot with the trans rights movements.
Many folk do some research and get “peaked”. But a lot of politicos simply double down rather than admitting to being wrong. So policies and ideas gather steam on the back of people not wanting to admit to being wrong. This also worries me. Haven’t explained it very well. Am also hungover.

Krank · 13/08/2022 07:43

I agree with your trans opinion. Awaits flaming

Sux2buthen · 13/08/2022 07:50

I don't think my tattoos make me unique I just like them🤷🏻‍♀️

OlympicProcrastinator · 13/08/2022 07:51

My husband and I vote differently and are still very happily married. It’s incredible how many people I’m friends with who voted differently to me with regards to Brexit and the election without me calling them thick or even thinking it.

The internet is a real cesspit at times.

Wolfiee · 13/08/2022 07:54

I agree with you on all those points.

I disagree with the poster above who says yours and JKR hold vocal minority opinions.

OlympicProcrastinator · 13/08/2022 07:55

Thankfully your view, and JKRs views are minority opinions

This is where the internet has a lot to answer for. It’s an observable scientific fact that people cannot change sex and that is the majority view. People who spend a lot of time on line genuinely believe trans ideology is the majority view. It’s not. Not by a long shot.

WineIsMyCarb · 13/08/2022 08:01

Hi Jim. Drank about a gallon of squash and am now up with aforementioned children. No headache but my cuppa was absolutely nectar.

Absolutely happy to be wrong about any topic whatsoever. I don't understand either why politicians (and many people on general) can't admit to being wrong. It always shows emotional maturity, good grace and intelligence I think. (Hopefully someone will be along soon who disagrees and wishes to express that via insults!)

I think that the delivery of Brexit has been a shitshow. I think part of the reason for that is the bad blood between 'leavers' and 'remainers' in the general populist in the run up to the referendum. Typical of what I started this thread about really. The name calling (both sides), presumption that someone must be stupid or morally corrupt for taking the opposing view was and still is symptomatic of our cultural inability (in the west) to disagree. This meant it was very difficult to debate the benefits and drawbacks of remaining or leaving.

My fundamental 'brexitty' issue was that I think there should be no higher court in this land than the High Court. But I could see significant downsides to leaving, how could you not?

The thing that tipped me into the leave camp was Cameron going to the EU to negotiate changes (in budget and freedom of movement, but it doesn't really matter what the topic was for my issues with the EU) and being told to sling his hook basically. Demonstrated lack of appetite for even considering reform etc. Not my only issue, as how the Union treated Greece (and is now asking poorer nations to sacrifice its energy usage to keep the German economy afloat, so same again basically), EU being ever expansionist, UK being a net contributor and the statist direction of travel as evidenced by discussing an EU army amongst other things.

Would I vote differently? Depends what the EU looks like in say 10 years. I think it will either continue to be statist or likely fragment to be a looser association (so going back to the EC days).

Now please will you call me a stupid racist prick? Or this thread will have been for nothing

Absolutely not the minority opinions at all. Try looking outside of social media and learn about the real life world.

FOJN · 13/08/2022 08:02

You're a cockwomble. I don't actually know what this means but I'm feeling generous enough to indulge your request this morning.

<feels nostalgic for a time when people could use words to disagree and nobody died>

WineIsMyCarb · 13/08/2022 08:05

Great @OlympicProcrastinator - are you able to air those differences without calling each other names? I'm presuming so if you're still married?!

I agree it's symptomatic of the internet.

I think some of you are missing the point (or proving me wrong). Doesn't matter what I think about sex or Brexit or whatever, it's that it's ok for us to disagree without name calling, which you've all done. How disappointing!!!

OP posts:
WineIsMyCarb · 13/08/2022 08:07

YAAAAY @FOJN - My first proper insult!

OP posts:
Flatmountains · 13/08/2022 08:07

Have you ever read a book by Salman Rushdie? Almost died of boredom in the first few paragraphs. That man does NOT get women.

if you like, I can call you a snotface. Not really sure why it is necessary.

PollyRockets · 13/08/2022 08:08

@Cosycover

It is a minority opinion

Thankfully

A vocal minority but a minority none the less
