To wonder why we haven't had protests about the energy bills rising?

ChubbyCaterpillar · 10/08/2022 20:52

Where's the uproar?
I can't understand how these energy companies are allowed to make the profits they do and continue to increase their costs.
Even if the government do step in it seems like they will only support people already on the breadline. Rather than put proper caps on the bills so it helps everyone.
Do you think protests will happen? Why haven't they already?

@enoughisenough

coconuthead · 10/08/2022 20:53

The @enoughisenough campaign is gaining serious momentum, I urge everyone to join and finally put a stop to this absolute shit show.

coconuthead · 10/08/2022 20:54

Two days and £250k people have signed up. Time to act!

j712adrian · 10/08/2022 20:57

I've just followed the Martin Lewis advice and stopped my direct debit.

Let the fuckers beg for it.

cakeorwine · 10/08/2022 20:59

I think that November 5th, when people are gathered around bonfires, trying to keep warm....something will happen.

girlfriend44 · 10/08/2022 21:01

There's something on Twitter enough is enough. They say they plan protests etc. Try Googling it they have a website too

Yes the campaign is building serious momentum.

Twitter instagram or just the website, we need to all sign up.

Sarabbb · 10/08/2022 21:03

In France this would not fly. People would not accept it and would go to the streets if this was happening.

Fhuukccssghkkb · 10/08/2022 21:04

I predict a riot ….like summer 2011.

Quite scary, but the prospect of mass destitution is also scary.

Martin Lewis has not told people to cancel their direct debits! This is an idiotic idea.

sugarspiceplumfairy · 10/08/2022 21:09

Why just energy bills? Why not cost of food etc?

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 10/08/2022 21:11

Why is cancelling your direct debit an idiotic idea exactly??

It means that energy companies aren’t making money off you being in credit. You pay what you owe when they ask is the idea.

Fake news - he has not said this at all.

GreenClock · 10/08/2022 21:20

Martin Lewis has tweeted today, stating that he does not support the idea of not paying.

HRTQueen · 10/08/2022 21:26

Because we are happier being keyboard warriors

most people will let others match there are too many good things on Netflix to bother

No surprise riots are being predicted (yet again)

HRTQueen · 10/08/2022 21:27

*others march

Unanananana · 10/08/2022 21:29

I can't riot or protest as I have to work to pay the bills I would be rioting or protesting against. Probably like a lot of other people.

Celia24 · 10/08/2022 21:29

Well...have you been out on the streets OP?

I haven't either. And I'm usually an activist. Im so busy working and trying to stay afloat because I'm worried about money. And have no energy left over. But you're right. We need to take action.

lightand · 10/08/2022 21:31

I think

a. it is summer and big bills have not hit that many yet?

b. some people like myself are still on old tariffs. And for a while yet.

c. the government is in recess or feels like we. We are effectively leaderless right now.

d. being green. I think this is the biggest one of all. Those who support green issues in no way want to complain.

PeekAtYou · 10/08/2022 21:31

Because too many people see protesting as something that other people should do.

qlpa · 10/08/2022 21:35

Why aren't you protesting OP?

Discovereads · 10/08/2022 21:36

Because can’t financially afford a day out to London to protest, also not really strong enough physically to cope with crowds and the travel stress either. Lots like me- elderly or disabled on low benefits are in the same boat. It’s a protest or eat choice really.

I have seen this sort of action shared on FB, and I don't see how it would help.

You will end up getting a meter installed, and the only person/company hurt by not paying into that is you.

35965a · 10/08/2022 21:45

It will happen when it’s colder.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 10/08/2022 21:47

FGS you will not get a meter installed for cancelling a direct debit.

The point is about ensuring the energy companies aren’t making money off us being in credit, and only paying for what you’ve used.

The scaremongering really does work doesn’t it.
