We have recently bought a new house and are hosting a bbq for our friends this weekend.

We have never hosted before and our friends have amazing BBQs - always lots of side dishes to choose from.

What's your favourite or what would you recommend?

So far I've got 2 different salads - (tomatoes/ cucumber) & ( leafy one)

Corn on the cob

Mozzarella & tomatoes plate

Fruit grazing board

What can we add? 🤪

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 10/08/2022 18:12

It's not a proper barbecue if there's no potato salad.

Kitkatcatflap · 10/08/2022 18:13

Homemade coleslaw and potato salad

Sceptre86 · 10/08/2022 18:14

Potato salad and a pasta salad.

CiderWithLizzie · 10/08/2022 18:14

Burrata is even better than mozzarella with sliced tomatoes, basil and extra virgin olive oil!

cherrypopsicle · 10/08/2022 18:15

I really like this one, nice hot or cold

Definitely potato salad - with bacon and onion. YUM.

BBQed pineapple rings.

Focaccia.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 10/08/2022 18:16

Home made humous for salad.

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 10/08/2022 18:17

Nando's style rice?
Jacket potatoes?
Potato salad?
Cocktail sticks with mini mozzarella balls & rolls of chorizo & a cherry tomato?
Focaccia?
Easy cheese twists with a guacamole or salsa?

Love this watermelon & feta salad - also really lovely the next day! (I don’t always bother with the balsamic if I don’t have any)

I could stick my head in this right now!

Couscous with diced cucumber, pepper, spring onions, sweetcorn and an olive oil, white wine vinegar and wholegrain mustard dressing.

food4lifee · 10/08/2022 18:21

Thankssss so much everyone! Such great suggestions!

You're going to laugh but I've never made my own coleslaw 🤣😅 ( there's a first for everything I guess)

Potato salad has been added to the list too 👍

A savoury rice, cous cous or pasta salad.

AuntieMaggie · 10/08/2022 18:26

Coleslaw - thin sliced white cabbage, red onion, grated carrots, mayo, lime juice and black pepper. I love the Levi roots recipe which adds red cabbage, sliced green pepper and sweetcorn but basically add any veg you like... I sometimes add celery, radishes for example as I love all that crunch and a big spoon of sour cream or soft cheese!

Quincythequince · 10/08/2022 18:27

Decent coleslaw and potato salad (homemade always better), Greek salad, bean salad, corn on the cob with different rubs/glazes, marinated haloumi, good crusty breads, nice chutneys and dips… just to name few things.

Whichwhatnow · 10/08/2022 18:28

As others have said, potato salad and coleslaw! Also veg and halloumi kebabs for the BBQ, garlic bread, Greek salad and some dips/sauces (salsa, houmous, guacamole, sour cream and chive)?

tillytoodles1 · 10/08/2022 18:28

I make a very simple potato salad, but there's never any left. Cube Maris Piper potatoes and boil in salted water until just tender. In the meantime, finely dice a small white onion and a big glug of white wine vinegar. Add to mayonnaise and put the potatoes in while still hot. Stir gently, leave to cool and refrigate overnight. Serve at room temperature.

Bubblebubblebah · 10/08/2022 18:30

Imho it really depends on what you are serving. 😁
Lamb shashlik with something like 7 spice is not in my opinion best match for pasta salad for example.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 10/08/2022 18:32

Coleslaw : apple, carrot and fennel bulb, dressing of soured cream, mayo, mustard, salt and pepper.

If you are making for people who like coleslaw you could bulk it out with white cabbage, but fennel bulb goes a long way.
