Just that really. Aibu to think Mumsnet has run it's course?

OP posts:
Debsdonein · 09/08/2022 23:34

Yes. Also too many trolls.

ChesterWoo · 09/08/2022 23:36

Yup.

A few threads have had way more responses than anticipated and it always makes me very nervous that a rag will steal.

Really makes me think twice about posting.

thenightsky · 09/08/2022 23:36

Yes, daily mail and trolls.

FayeGovan · 09/08/2022 23:36

Yep unfortunately

ilovesooty · 09/08/2022 23:39

I hardly ever start threads but wouldn't in any case post anything that I'd be bothered about the media picking up.

I can't believe anyone isn't aware that if one puts anything into the public domain it can be picked up by anyone.

PersonaNonGarter · 09/08/2022 23:43

No - my life isn’t that interesting and I am not so self-absorbed.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/08/2022 23:44

I haven't posted for proper advice for years, apart from what shampoo to use.

Sparklybutold · 09/08/2022 23:53

Do mumsnet get paid for any posts stolen and published external? Who actually owns the right to the threads?

EmeraldShamrock1 · 09/08/2022 23:55

Yes especially if the problem or details are specific no matter how much I tried to mix up the details.

mrsfollowill · 10/08/2022 00:00

I've just PM 'd someone (and I hope it does not make me look like a nutter!) because if I posted on her thread and it was published it would out me to all my friends/family and I don't want that Blush bloody lazy journalists have a lot to answer for.

Tinktravels · 10/08/2022 00:01

I avoid posting as I've had my threads deleted both times I've made one on my previous account.
I then couldn't get into it so made this one, I believe the reason they gave for removing it was 'sockpuppet' though I haven't a clue what that means.

dogatetheremote · 10/08/2022 00:08

Yes. When I scroll through FB I regularly (as in several times a day) see our local media has picked up stories from mumsnet even though they have nothing to do with our area.
It's only Tuesday but so far this week we've had creepy neighbours and the kitchen, adult son wanting to move home to get sleep instead of parenting his baby, husbands noisy car, not invited to friend wedding, and probably others I've not seen.
I would never post about an identifying situation now.

BedknobsNoBroomsticks · 10/08/2022 00:10

I very rarely come on Mumsnet nowadays, I would never start a thread because most articles I read on social media platforms are articles about Mumsnet threads

Sock puppeting is when you post something under one name and then name change and post on the same thread pretending to be someone else.

This ^^ 100%

It's a public internet forum and even if it wasn't, you can kiss goodbye to privacy whenever you choose to publish anything on the internet.

If you want a private chat about your personal problems, the internet has never been the place to turn to.

Admitting to being a previously banned poster isn't particularly a smart move Shock

Why didn't you ask MNHQ what a sockpuppet was if you didn't know?

Tinktravels · 10/08/2022 00:21

Thank you @BedknobsNoBroomsticks

But that definitely wasn't the case.
I could barely figure out how to make a post never mind doing that 😂

clpsmum · 10/08/2022 00:21

Absolutely

Tinktravels · 10/08/2022 00:24

@worraliberty I wouldnt of even known how to ask them! I was quite new to the site.

Tinktravels · 10/08/2022 00:25

Anyway I don't post anymore for that reason.
I just comment now.

SpringIntoChaos · 10/08/2022 00:26

There is literally NOTHING in my life that the media would be interested in picking up on 🤦‍♀️ (except perhaps the exciting news that I cleared out my knicker drawer today, throwing away YEARS of saggy old pants, and replacing them with 4 packs of bargain Florence & Fred cotton high waisters ☺️...so proud!)

Maves · 10/08/2022 00:26

They've had one of mine before but I don't give two shits the stories are online and not in any main page that anyone is probably even going to notice, you've probably got more views on here than the daily mail anyways! You post something publicly it's public wherever it is...

I posted on here last year and it did end up in the media!

Wasn't even that exciting. Pure clickbait. It'd be nice to reach a point as a member where you can have a members portal so that not every man and their dog can access.

Tinktravels · 10/08/2022 00:28

Thank you but it was a good while ago so no point messaging them now. I'll just carry on with this account I've been using it for since last year
