To go to Mexico pregnant

whoopthereitis11 · 08/08/2022 21:11

Thinking of going to Cancun last minute for some R&R but I’m 5 months pregnant.

I feel like we never hear about Zika anymore so my AIBU is AIBU to go to Cancun pregnant whilst Zika is a risk?

Would be staying in a 5 start resort (relevant as I think they must for mozzies)

OP posts:

We went on honeymoon and I got bit loads. I wouldn't risk it.

Lessofallthisunpleasantness · 08/08/2022 23:28

Of course.... there are many pregnant women in Mexico and most survive.

Emmelina · 08/08/2022 23:38

I wouldn’t take the risk. It’s such a long way from home without considering Zika/mosquitoes. A local couple here went out to Turkey on their honeymoon recently after getting the necessary fit to fly sign-off and went into labour, ended up delivering via c section. Some ridiculous clause in their insurance meant they weren’t actually covered, so they had to crowdfund to pay for her and the baby’s treatment and then to get them home privately in an air ambulance into a local NICU.

Not worth the risk.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/08/2022 23:40

Loads of hotels with adult only areas in Greece, surely?

And are they all flying long hall?

News flash - you're now firmly second best to someone else, that's what happens.

Revolvingwhore · 08/08/2022 23:53

Haul!

CredibilityProblem · 09/08/2022 00:04

I wouldn't fly to Mexico in the hurricane season. The chances of actually coming to harm are minuscule, but the chances of a tropical storm causing terrible weather and/or flight disruption are higher than I'd like.

choolaboola · 09/08/2022 00:20

Wow, a lot of judgement here. OP, consult your doctor/MW and decide if it's best for your particular situation. People fly whilst pregnant all the time.
That being said, there are some v. good AI resorts in Turkey that would provide a similar experience. I have heard great things about the Ikos brand also and there is a Secrets Lanzarote which is supposed to be v. Good AI.

Marvellousmadness · 09/08/2022 00:39

I would definitely risk my baby's health for an all inclusive holiday as well. You sound like a great mum op. Keep up the good work

moostermum · 09/08/2022 00:46

Nope. I'm here right now and it's so hot some days I've almost fainted walking from room to sun bed. You would be too uncomfortable

TheHuntingoftheSnark · 09/08/2022 01:20

When I was there I wore deer the whole time and still got at least 3 bites every day.

JasmineVioletRose · 09/08/2022 01:23

Why go long haul? It's summer! Go to greece or S France or Balearics or somewhere?

Boxowine · 09/08/2022 01:25

Who goes to Mexico in August?

silkeyemask · 09/08/2022 02:55

Look at the MarBella Nido suites in corfu - AI, adult-only. We're flying out in a couple of weeks (am also pregnant)

calmlakes · 09/08/2022 03:10

We have recently been to Mexico (Rivera Maya) lovely hotel.
But it is a mozzy time of year.
We got bitten quite a bit.

WTF475878237NC · 09/08/2022 03:10

I'm guessing you haven't lost a baby OP but to those of us who have, or have experienced pre-term labour and all that NICU involves this just seems needlessly risky. So many safer options to have someone wait on you.

eurochick · 09/08/2022 04:47

No way would I take the zika risk. Look at Europe. Or if you want to go further, see whether the Maldives and Seychelles are still zika free. They would definitely fit the bill.

sashh · 09/08/2022 05:25

Check up on the abortion law.

I'm not suggesting you want to terminate but you want to be where you will be treated if something does go wrong or start to go wrong with your pregnancy.

I'm here too.
I wouldn't come pregnant though because it's bloody boiling. You'd be a sweaty uncomfortable mess. The flight is long and tedious.

There are loads of other places you can go
Ps not been bitten or seen a mosquito at all

PatientlyWaiting21 · 09/08/2022 06:13

Go elsewhere on a shorter flight. I do not recommend Mexico, it’s a total shit hole, outside your fancy hotels it’s an awful place full of corruption, drugs, violence.

Onlyrainbows · 09/08/2022 06:23

Ok Patiently what a horrible and borderline racist thing to say. I'm Mexican, have live in Mexico until 25 and go back every year... Number of times I've been a victim of crime = zero. Number of times I've been a victim of crime in the UK= 3.

Going back to the OP, I would go. Hurricane season is not as bad, and the last time I had terrible bites was about 14 years ago when I went to the jungle.

You can also go to the public hospital, regardless of what people.like rot hink they're decent and there's a treaty with the UK so all emergency treatment is free of charge (in a public hospital).

What hotel are you thinking of staying at?

clarrylove · 09/08/2022 06:33

We came back from Mexico last week. It's ridiculously hot and humid right now. I passed out twice! Thankfully not hurt in the process but within our party of 7 nearly all of us struggled with the humidity. Not ideal for someone who is pregnant I wouldn't have thought.

florianfortescue · 09/08/2022 07:41

We did all inclusive in Mauritius for our baby moon because it was Zika-free. It was fabulous. Have a look at Sugar Beach.
