To be annoyed when asked if my picture can be taken to promote someone else's business on Instagram?

I've had this happen more and more often. You attend an activity, course or event. You are having a reasonably good time and enjoying the experience. Then all of a sudden or towards the end, the organiser or business owner asks attendees if they wouldn't mind having their picture taken to post on Instagram.

This puts me right off. I feel like an animal in a zoo, dehumanised and feel not much more than marketing material to line somebody else's pockets.

I'm prepared to be told I'm totally overthinking this and IABU. But that's how I feel.

What are your views on this?

I do decline. But it ruins* *it for me and I'm left completely deflated, not wanting to go back

They have every right to ask just like you have every right to say no.

I wouldn’t want my photo online either but I do appreciate that the last few years have been tough for businesses so wouldn’t have an issue with them asking

You're being way too insensitive imo, you'll end up having nowhere left to go if this is your mentality.

I think you need to examine what’s behind your overreaction

Tell them you want paying for advertising their business then or just say no. It’s nae hard. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is an incredibly dramatic overreaction. The event can't have been that good if someone asking to take your photo ruins the whole experience.

I’d say that’s a really extreme reaction op. Of course if that’s how you feel it’s how you feel. But it is very extreme.

I don't mind my photo taken at all. But yes, just say no. It's fine.

The gym I attend posts short videos of some of our classes - they don't ask! I cringe a bit when I see myself, grimacing madly & sweating but don't mind too much.

I don't know, it's the feeling of being used I guess. You are already paying for the event but they want more.
