To wish there was a TV channel just for Aussie dramas?

Having just fell down a rabbit hole on YouTube, it got me thinking how much I’d love a tv channel where Aussie classics could be shown from the beginning.

Obviously Neighbours would be a shoe in, but also The Flying Doctors, The Henderson Kids, definitely A Country Practice and the must be so many more?

Any other suggestions for my fantasy TV channel?

A place to call home.

Just finished it on the recommendation of a friend.

Brilliant.
Post WW2 family drama.
So enjoyable.

I loved Flying Doctors 35 years ago.

There's a remake of Heartbreak High coming back to Netflix soon.

Bump on iplayer is good.

Daisytomhope · 03/08/2022 23:53

You might like offspring on Netflix.

Maybe get a VPN and see if you can sign up to Stan, lots of classic Aussie shows on there!!

AllOnMyOwnSometimes · 03/08/2022 23:56

@billy1966 Ive also just finished A Place To Call Home and absolutely loved it. Definitely reignited my crush on Brett Climo from all those years ago!

That sounds interesting, I’ll definitely look that up thanks! I’ll just need to figure out how to get a VPN Blush

Wasn't it just fantastic. 9 series.
I loved the strong story lines, the history.
Definitely one of the best historical series that I have seen.

Downton abbey wouldn't hold much interest for me, but would put it at 2/10 to this really being a 10/10 for a period family drama.

Sad it's finished.

I'd like to see the very old "TenTown", a kids' series from the 60s.It has the obligatory ginger-haired bad lad.

Also "Fergus McPhail". When DD and I used to watch it before we moved to Australia, we marvelled at the brown houses - loads of the window/doorframes, of unpainted timber, not to mention the timber clad walls, and wondered was it a thing. Yes, it is. Our first rental was like this, as is the house we bought. Lots and lots of brown.Grin

Crash Palace.

Currently watching Offspring for the millionth time. Nina’s just off to Baltimore.

gleegeek · 04/08/2022 00:20

Fabulous idea! I've just finished Offspring.
I'd like to rewatch The Secret Life of Us.
I liked The Heights too.

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 04/08/2022 00:22

Richmond Hill. Anyone remember?

AllOnMyOwnSometimes · 04/08/2022 00:25

@RichardOsmansXraySpecs I remember the title and remember watching, but without googling I couldn’t tell you a single thing about it Grin <goes off to YouTube>

McLeod’s daughters was good too, as was Blue Heelers. Not sure if you got them in the UK. We also had a show called Police Rescue and it was brilliant. Oh and Water Rats!

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 04/08/2022 00:29

I loved it, it was centred around a police station that's all I remember really. Oh and Emily Simons was in it as an estate agent, ha.

UnimpeachableBravery · 04/08/2022 00:33

I absolutely loved 800 words. I really wish I could find it somewhere

Runningslow · 04/08/2022 00:37

Home and away as well.

Carlycat · 04/08/2022 00:38

Wentworth 👌

MollyScamp · 04/08/2022 00:41

I loved Packed to the Rafters & All Saints
and all of the others mentioned above!
A Country Practice and Flying Doctors being 2 firm favourites.

Lurleene · 04/08/2022 00:42

I'm always banging on about Offspring and Five Bedrooms but I've literally just remembered a show I was mad about in the 80s. Return to Eden. Very glamorous soap opera about a woman who had her face eaten by a crocodile. Or something like that! 🐊

I was only about 8 I have no idea why I was allowed to watch it but I remember I enjoyed it at the time. 😀

Runningslow · 04/08/2022 00:42

Also the young doctors
