Lighthearted. Chickpea curry for dinner tonight. I got some naans to go with it. DP says he wants rice too. AIBU in saying it's one or the other? Not rice AND naan?

Looks like I'm being unreasonable!!Grin maybe I'll cook some rice after all!

In these parts you'd get a raised eyebrow for not having half and half (rice and chips) along with naan and/or poppadom.

Your husband is positively restrained in his curry side dish choices.

Thatswhyimacat · 03/08/2022 16:41

I think if it was a meat curry then both would be fine, but chickpeas are more carbs as well and this is just an unnecessary carbfest. Plus naan is ten times better than rice.

Stripyhoglets1 · 03/08/2022 16:43

YABVU!

TalkingToMyselfAgain · 03/08/2022 17:11

We have curry, rice and samosas. My greedy git husband also has naans and poppadoms

MissCalamity · 03/08/2022 17:22

I always have rice & naan.
Pushed for a choice (normally at the set menu places where it's rice or naan, I would always have the rice.

Antarcticant · 03/08/2022 17:25

Chapatis for me!

BeanieTeen · 03/08/2022 17:27

I do a mean homemade chickpea curry.
I then put shop bought samosas and onion bahjis in the oven.
Also nan bread.
I then bang a microwave pilau rice in the microwave for good measure.

I think this is the most unreasonable AIBU I’ve ever come across.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 03/08/2022 17:29

Is this the mumsnet competitive miserable meal thread for today?

Kite22 · 03/08/2022 17:34

With most curries, half and half is the correct answer.

Chickpeas though sort of replace rice in terms of texture and carbiness, so in this one instance, I'm with you OP.

Clarinet1 · 03/08/2022 17:36

I’ll always go for rice with almost any kind of stew/casserole/sauce-covered dish or occasionally mashed potato but definitely rice with curry although I do love Peshwari naan!

bellalou1234 · 03/08/2022 17:41

I have chips too

Funkyslippers · 03/08/2022 17:43

Definitely both but I'd rather have rice than naan. In fact it would feel like half a meal without rice

Youdoyoutoday · 03/08/2022 17:57

Rice... white, fluffy, rice..... and not just any rice, basmati rice! Small, tender, pieces of joy 😊

knickersniff · 03/08/2022 18:10

Are you his wife or his mother 🤣

Madhairday · 03/08/2022 19:06

We like both but often just do naan as we can't be bothered (although have discovered microwave rice!) We have sweet potato in the curry so don't need more carbs. But poppadoms and an onion/cucumber/tomato salad on the side is lush.

lickenchugget · 03/08/2022 19:38

It’s rice, naan, poppadoms, sauce, onion bhaji and saag bhaji!

Tisfortired · 03/08/2022 19:39

Rice and naan and chips and poppadoms

JanisMoplin · 03/08/2022 19:39

I am Indian and we are known for eating carbs with carbs with carbs ( also some carbs on top):)

Carpy88999 · 03/08/2022 19:39

Cheat day day rice and naan, normal meal rice or naan.

heidihigh · 03/08/2022 19:40

Hmm. If I was making curry at home I'd have just rice. But takeaway curry is definitely rice AND naan.

PonyPatter44 · 03/08/2022 19:45

I'm not over-keen on naan, but DP and DD like it, so its always there with the curry. Poppadoms, however, are a different story - they MUST go with every curry. I like the garlic ones.

WisteriaHysteria22 · 03/08/2022 19:45

I feel can feel my stomach bloating just reading this….treble carbs! But my DH is the same thing only with chapati instead of naan!

fatlazycow · 03/08/2022 19:51

Mushroom rice, bag of chips, keema naan and 9 poppadoms 😋

elm26 · 03/08/2022 20:05

Rice, naan, poppadoms, the lot for us 😂
