Lighthearted. Chickpea curry for dinner tonight. I got some naans to go with it. DP says he wants rice too. AIBU in saying it's one or the other? Not rice AND naan?

OP posts:

@JustTheOneSwan
Are you mad? Rice AND noodles? Maybe if you have two separate mains, but with a single main? I'm clutching my pearls here.

Itreallyistimetogo · 03/08/2022 15:50

Both, always! And poppadoms too.

This.

You have it your way, let the bloke have it his.

DC1214 · 03/08/2022 16:01

Rice and naan, though shop bought naan is basically just crumbly pitta so I wouldn’t really miss it.

Compulsory. How could you choose between them? It's like admitting which kid is your favourite.

EmotionalBruises · 03/08/2022 16:07

I love a chickpea curry. I would have both!

BiscoffSundae · 03/08/2022 16:08

Yeh it’s gonna need the rice

liveforsummer · 03/08/2022 16:08

Yes you need both - they have entirely different jobs within the meal, dd likes to mix her curry and rice together and then smear it on top of the naan like a pizza 😆. You probably need some samosas and poppadoms too btw 😆

Dotjones · 03/08/2022 16:08

YABU, curry is rank, so is rice. Naans are tolerable on their own.

35965a · 03/08/2022 16:09

Always rice and naan!

TomAllenWife · 03/08/2022 16:09

You're wrong

It's rice, naan, chips and poppadoms

Chouetted · 03/08/2022 16:10

I eat it with naan. The rice I think is supposed to be for mopping up the gravy after the bread is gone, but as I live alone, it seems a bit OTT for one.

villamariavintrapp · 03/08/2022 16:11

I heard a character on radio 4 last week (sounded like Hayley cropper) asking for 'biryani with rice not chapati' thought that was a very strange choice.

TheMullerLightOwl · 03/08/2022 16:11

Honestly I think is the most unreasonable OP I've ever seen. Put the rice on and get some poppadoms while you're at it!

Hillarious · 03/08/2022 16:13

Someone mentioned having a roast with or without Yorkshire Pudding. What planet is that person on?

Use the rice as a cheap filler for your DH. Leaves more curry for you.

GiantSpaceHamster · 03/08/2022 16:14

Rice and naan and now I want a curry

JustTheOneSwan · 03/08/2022 16:15

PSA don't buy Tesco share bag mini popadoms.
They are Not edible and quite possibly Boris Johnson's bottom clinkards.

diddl · 03/08/2022 16:17

If he wants some rice as well he can cook himself some!

We tend to have one or the other.

FranklySonImTheGaffer · 03/08/2022 16:21

YABU sorry OP.
Also, in our house you get chips, rice, naan bread and curry. Plus sometimes some poppadoms etc (DH likes chips and spoonful of rice, I prefer lots of rice and a few chips and we share the bread).

sunsetsandsandybeaches · 03/08/2022 16:24

Definitely both!

whoruntheworldgirls · 03/08/2022 16:24

I have rice and naan or rice and poppadoms

Jemimapinotduck · 03/08/2022 16:26

Rice, chips, naan and poppadoms in this house ☺️ occasionally no chips or poppadoms but always rice and naan

littlegreenheart · 03/08/2022 16:31

If you're making dinner, you can arrange the dinner you like. Having rice and naan in the same dinner is pretty traditional/usual, so YABU to say make a blanket statement that it's one or the other.

But YANBU to say I made dinner, and this is it - take it leave it or go get something to add. As I assume you would do on the days that your partner makes dinner. If you really can't decide - maybe cook together, even if that means (for example) that you do the curry and s/he does the rice?

Chocoqueen · 03/08/2022 16:32

We just have naan with ours, but that's mainly because we prefer naan to rice and no rice = more naan.

bangersandsmashhh · 03/08/2022 16:34

This has to be a reverse…. Everyone knows curry comes with naan and rice plus bhajis, samosas and poppadoms

NiqueNique · 03/08/2022 16:36

Ahhh I really fancy making a curry now! Maybe on Saturday.
