Aka.....tramp week?
All your nice summer clothes are being washed and packed.
Am i going to be reduced to wearing winter clothes or looking like a total scruff all week?
What's your solution to the problem?

wash and pack later in the week. no need to do it a week before is there?

ShinyHatStand · 01/08/2022 12:11

I pack the day before I go.
Wash everything then straight into the suitcase.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 01/08/2022 12:11

Same! I'm currently wafting around in the linen trousers and cotton tshirts that I told myself I'd stop wearing last week so I could be super organised and packed with a few days to go.

Itsthelookitsthelook · 01/08/2022 12:12

I agree with the PP, a week ahead is excessive. You can get a full load of laundry washed dried and ironed in a day so wear the clothes!

workflowers · 01/08/2022 12:12

Just keep washing clothes all week? I went away recently. Was washing clothes and hanging them out until the morning we went away. Added those clothes to the bag once they were dry and then packing was finished.

Toottooot · 01/08/2022 12:13

Tramp week - doubt it. Surely you have clothes that can be washed closer to the trip or clothes that are not needed for both home and holidays? This is not a thing.

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 01/08/2022 12:13

Have absolutely no idea why people pack a week before a holiday. I do it the day before earliest.

NCgoingdry · 01/08/2022 12:14

I am envious of everyone packing the night before. With multiple kids and seriously full on jobs how are people so calm about finding the time to pack.

Some people are working right up until the day before or have other commitments so may do their holiday prep the closest weekend to their holiday.

Penguinfeather781 · 01/08/2022 12:18

I own much more than one weeks worth of clothing (admittedly I don’t follow fashion so much of my wardrobe is from years ago and it accumulates) and I wash two days before, then pack the day before. I occasionally have a problem with my kids stuff because they generally have less clothing as they outgrow things so fast - but I just go to Tesco and buy another multipack of t shirts or whatever.

Skelligsfeathers · 01/08/2022 12:19

I am NOT organised by nature so have to force myself to avoid stress.
Tramp week is totally a thing! It's definitely not just me!

If I'm going on a Saturday last call for washing is Thursday. I keep a basket in our room and put "holiday" clothes in as they are washed and dried and therefore ready to pack but I only pack the day before.

I do remember wearing my school PE kit the day before holiday as a child because all my other clothes were packed!

Live in Scotland. Then you rarely need hot weather clothing.

Windyone · 01/08/2022 12:20

I live in Scotland so wear normal clothes and pack my summer clothes which only get worn for two weeks a year on holiday 😀

Skelligsfeathers · 01/08/2022 12:21

Treabrea- are you my sister?

luxxlisbon · 01/08/2022 12:21

I wouldn’t pack a full week before, but I also have more than one weeks worth of summer clothes.

Deliaskis · 01/08/2022 12:23

I get it @Skelligsfeathers , most of my friends are the same as us, we don't have a whole week's worth of spare summer clothes to place clean and ironed into a case the day before...without having spent the few days before washing and ironing them (hence them being out of wearable circulation!), in between working FT and all our usual weekly comings and goings.

We often go away with another family and have a takeaway together the night before we go, and we all say beforehand we'll be wearing random assortments of clothes that aren't needed for the holiday!

Whattodo121 · 01/08/2022 12:28

We go away tomorrow and I currently look really scruffy! I’m wearing some cheapo harem pants from Amazon and a scrappy black t shirt as it’s really muggy here and am trying to pack and sort out chickens, dog and housework before we leave.

ToucanPlayThatGame · 01/08/2022 12:28

I'm planning to pack for this week's holiday the day before we leave, with a final wash done that morning so that it can dry and be put in suitcases in the evening. At the end of that day, all clothes worn that day are put in a final final wash, dried overnight, and put in hand luggage as spare clothes in case of luggage problems. We have an evening departure though, so this wouldn't work for a 6am one.

Camomila · 01/08/2022 12:32

My DC are wearing scruffy clothes to nursery and holiday club this week, am trying to keep the nice matching shorts and t-shirts clean for next week.
I am wfh today and wearing polka dot trousers and a stripy t-shirt.

sonjadog · 01/08/2022 12:34

I don't pack a week in advance but maybe a few days, so I know what you mean. But sometimes I find that it makes me dig into my wardrobe and I can come up with items I have forgotten I had, or make combinations that I wouldn't have normally made but that are surprisingly good. So Tramp Week can actually be quite a good week, clothes-wise!

balalake · 01/08/2022 13:00

There must be a lot of people about to go on holiday in my locality, if the state of many of them is a guide. I'll probably have the whole town to myself next week!!!

I tend to work right up until I go, so work clothes! I have some tops that cross the line between casual and work, but generally the final week before a holiday is full of proper formal office clothes.

I try and put a list together of everything I want to take, so I know it's washed and ready, then put it in another room pre-packing.

I then pack the day before, but have everything put aside, so whatever's not put aside is fair game for wearing during the week.

sueelleker · 01/08/2022 16:13

I've obviously got too many clothes-if I packed them all I'd need a steamer trunk, not a suitcase!
