What did you get your DD for their 18th?

DD is 18 in a few weeks and I have no idea what to buy her. I've ordered her a cake and bought her an outfit to go out in but I'm stuck what to buy as a main gift.
She's not a girly girl, doesn't wear jewellery, already has AirPods, phone etc.
She works full time so anything she needs or wants she gets herself. I've asked her what she'd like and she said she can't think of anything!
I need some ideas please

A designer watch (not very expensive)

FindingANewLifePlan · 28/07/2022 16:27

Apple Watch? If she's already got AirPods.
Would she use a bag?
Tickets to a gig/comedy show?

SalviaOfficinalis · 28/07/2022 16:29

My parents made me a lovey photo album of my childhood for my 18th birthday.

I suppose a photo book would be more likely these days but there’s something lovely about real photos printed and stuck on with photo corners.

cantthinkofabetterusername · 28/07/2022 16:31

I asked her about the Apple Watch and she said she's not fussed for one. She does use bags but already has enough to fill a shop.
This is so hard!!

A (cheap) diamond necklace that she didn't like much and hardly wore!

How about a travel bag - Longchamp le Pliage?

FeltCarrot · 28/07/2022 16:32

We got DD a designer bag (chosen by her) and hid a diamond star necklace in the pocket. She got the matching earrings for her 21st.

18 last sunday, We are on holiday in Wales and going on a helicopter flight

gabsdot45 · 28/07/2022 16:44

My son turned 18 last year and he got TV.

Gawdimold · 28/07/2022 16:45

Theatre tickets

ErrolTheDragon · 28/07/2022 16:55

I got mine what she asked for - she wanted some flowering houseplants, so I got 2 orchids plus nice outer pots designed for them, a matching small watering can and orchid food. The blooms lasted for a good 6 months (!) - she didn't take them to uni but reclaimed them last year, 5 years on they're still in good nick and flowering randomly as properly benignly neglected orchids do.

My mum took us on a family holiday to Italy with herself, myself and my younger sister. It was the first time we’d all gone abroad together

bluepenguinfeet · 28/07/2022 16:56

Doc Martens was what my daughter asked for her 18th birthday

AdoraBell · 28/07/2022 17:00

I was working in a jewellery shop so I bought necklaces with diamond pendants, one has a cross and the other triple diamond pendant. Staff discount made that possible.

Maybe a bag or Air pods suggested could work.

sleepyhoglet · 28/07/2022 17:02

An experience- theatre, fancy tasting menu restaurant, afternoon tea, sports tickets, going up the shard (not all but something like that!)

Something sensible- £100 premium bonds etc

Something fun- a gift under £50. Go browse John Lewis, always something lovely!

theremustonlybeone · 28/07/2022 17:05

she went with her friends to Madrid and spent her birthday having a blast as it was halloween madness over there. I also got her a Pandora bracelet and charm. My older DS had pre drinks round here and we booked them a private table at ministry of sound

DilemmaDelilah · 28/07/2022 17:06

We had very little money, but I got each of mine a piece of silver jewellery custom made by a local jeweller. Completely individual to them and something they can keep for ever.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 28/07/2022 17:06

Something to enjoy rather than wear- nice Lush products, luxury skincare products, essential oil diffuser etc. Oliver Bonas always has lovely pretty things perfect for her age, as do Anthropologie.

What is she into? If she's arty- the van gogh experience or a museum, if she's musical- tickets to a gig, national trust visit, day out shopping, day trip to London or somewhere pretty like the Cotswolds maybe.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 28/07/2022 17:07

ZeusandClio · 28/07/2022 17:09

Car insurance and road tax.

Following with interest, my DD turns 18 in a month, not girly at all, already has an Apple Watch, phone, iPad, AirPods etc also works full time and buys the things she wants, so very difficult to buy for and I hate buying things just for the sake of it.

ghostyslovesheets · 28/07/2022 17:11

DD2 just turned 18 - I got her a necklace of her star sign (shape not image) as she likes it and yes - had her mate do a stick tattoo of it on her torso (little madam) and a cuddly related to her name - and cash!

Her dad paid for an actual official tattoo

DD1 got a Vivian Westwood necklace, perfume and cash

ISeeTheLight · 28/07/2022 17:14

DD is only 8, but my mum and I went on a little trip together for my 18th, a city break abroad, she let me choose where. We went to London (I grew up outside the UK) for 3 days, went to see Les Mis, did some shopping, sightseeing etc. It was lovely but obviously not that cheap!

ShaunaTheSheep · 28/07/2022 17:28

Show tickets and an iPhone.

cantthinkofabetterusername · 28/07/2022 17:30

I'm thinking of gig tickets. She's a massive Lewis Capaldi fan. Thanks everyone!!
