To think Sunak is a wanker?

Sorry but, just seen plastered all over the news that he's pledging to make 'downblousing' illegal.
I mean, call me cynical but it just feels like an attempt to keep the little women quiet 🤐

Am I being really ignorant in thinking this is a bit of a non issue? I can't imagine any situation where anyone can take a picture down someone's top without getting their teeth knocked out?

Maybe just me but take as many pictures of my tits as you want pal, id much rather you sorted the cost of living shit out!

😤

Just because you’d rather he do X doesn’t mean he shouldn’t do Y. It’s not one or the other.

thisbathiscoldnow · 28/07/2022 08:15

Fair enough. Just feels a bit like 'oh what can I do that will make the women vote for me'

There's a much wider issue surrounding sexual harassment and this just feels to me like he's picked a buzz word to make himself look relevant.

Maybe just me though

I agree OP in the grand scheme of things I wish the candidates would address the most important things and stop with the headline grabbing sound bites, stop treating us like idiots and actually come up with a credible concrete plan to get us out of the mess we are in. This winter is looking particularly bleak, people are facing real hardships and they are not prepared. It's a complete disaster Sad

girlmom21 · 28/07/2022 08:23

At least he's making some kind of proposal to actually make a change rather than just repeatedly moaning at him about mansplaining like Liz Truss is. That's not a good rebuttal. She could do so much better.

figmaofmyimagination · 28/07/2022 08:23

Ridiculous thing to be annoyed about. Is it just possible he can want to campaign on more than one thing at a time??

UxbridgeVoteBJOut · 28/07/2022 08:25

You don't have to like Sunak to find him a vastly better choice than Truss.

Exactly this.

FridayiminlovewithRobertSmith · 28/07/2022 08:27

😳 of all the things that anyone could complain about in the campaign I never thought it would be that! I’m no fan but Liz Truss is worse and economically illiterate and will be damaging.

Yep, this.

No, she really couldn't. That's the trouble.

stuntbubbles · 28/07/2022 08:30

All Tories are wankers, that’s not news, but I can’t get annoyed about this.

Personally I want the government to address the cost of living and I don’t want people taking pictures of my tits. It’s not an either/or.

KangarooKenny · 28/07/2022 08:30

He is.

girlmom21 · 28/07/2022 08:32

@entropynow ha true. I meant that the platform gives her the potential to do so much better. Her as a person? Nah.

SundayTeatime · 28/07/2022 08:34

Obviously, things like downblousing and upskirting should be illegal.

MaryVee · 28/07/2022 08:38

Like most politicians, I think he’s not gonna fight the corner of the poor.

Apart from being married to a very rich woman, he has an multi-million London property portfolio, so I worry it’ll be his agenda to keep house prices high. Even light another fire under them…

but they all do, we haven’t moved on much from feudalism

would be interested to know whether my suspicions is warranted…

Lockheart · 28/07/2022 08:42

This was raised several weeks ago about the time Johnson resigned:

www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/technology-62045112.amp

It's not a Sunak idea and I'm not sure why he'd be a wanker for suggesting it in any event.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 28/07/2022 08:43

I had assumed this was his feeble answer to Truss promising a DV register and to make street harassment illegal

Rummikub · 28/07/2022 08:45

I’m curious... what about furlough? Didn’t that support lots of low paid people?

I think if a labour Government had proposed such an idea and Tories were in opposition it wouldn’t have gone through.

SerendipityJane · 28/07/2022 08:49

Easier to promote a token gesture than make any meaningful change to systematic misogyny in society I guess. But then it's easier for some people to vote for small things over real change. As we know.

neshtastic · 28/07/2022 08:52

Mumsnet will literally complain about everything.

I'm so bored with everything being 'sexist', or 'misogynistic' or whatever.

The current culture wars are making me loads more conservative.

CalistoNoSolo · 28/07/2022 08:52

Agree OP. There is an FT article on the NHS which makes for very troubling reading, energy prices are insane, the economy is tanking and the environment we live in is going up in flames. And yet neither he nor truss address any of these issues, its all fucking non-issues or stuff that would be nice if everything else was working ok.

I loathe sunak, he is a creepy little shit pretending he cares about us. He wants the top job because its all about jobs for the boys and making his rich mates even richer.

Whatwouldscullydo · 28/07/2022 08:56

He has no idea does he. Does he think women will go omg yay. Its such a bullshit proposal and he knows it. Its a pacifier thats all.

Whats the point of making something illegal when the bigger issues such as women's compete lack of faith in the police. The fact the police often aren't even interested in coming out. The fact women don't even feel calling the police would be safe for them. The fact police seem.more interested in thought policing amd twitter feeds than actually helping anyone.

He knows he won't actully have to do anything. Its just words.

C8H10N4O2 · 28/07/2022 08:59

I have no love for either candidates but Sunak's classic performances of an entitled public schoolboy talking over and mansplaining to the little woman has killed the whisper thin notion that he was the least bad candidate.

MsFrenchie · 28/07/2022 09:01

This proposal is more relevant to me than anything to do with the cost of living, which almost inevitably will see people calling for me to be taxed more so it can be given to someone else.

It's not his proposal, it's something the Law Commission was calling for several weeks ago, and if you read the article I posted it's part of a wide-ranging set of proposed measures to clamp down on intimate image abuse, including covert filming (e.g. in changing rooms, toilets) and sending explicit images without people's consent.
