AIBU to refuse to buy this syrup?

Husband has returned from a US business trip with a pile of American treats for the kids.

Naturally, they are addicted, and it was all gone in days.

Kids are desperate for more, but frankly, it's crap - look at the bottle to the right, it's not even real maple syrup.

It looks like we can get this through Amazon... But, AIBU to refuse to have this rubbish in the house?

Don't buy it if you don't want to. But kids love that sort of stuff, especially as it's a novelty!

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 24/07/2022 00:41

Fruity pebbles flavoured syrup 🫢

LovinglifeAF · 24/07/2022 00:41

YANBU

looks rank

steff13 · 24/07/2022 00:42

I live in the US and I wouldn't buy that. I've never even seen it. Chicken and waffles really needs real maple syrup and tobasco sauce.

DeanStockwelll · 24/07/2022 00:43

I probably buy one more by then hopefully then the novelty will have worn off

MisterT373 · 24/07/2022 00:49

Looks more like washing up liquid

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 24/07/2022 00:53

I wouldn't buy more, because then it's not a special thing that dad brought home all the way from America any more, it's just an overpriced import except the first bottle was imported via a different route. Better they can look back and say "Remember that time dad brought blue maple syrup from America?" and it was a special one-time thing.

abovedecknotbelow · 24/07/2022 00:54

Wel my kids aren't allowed blue food, sends them mental. Just don't buy it!

TeapotTitties · 24/07/2022 00:58

Up to you isn't it 🤷

ErrolTheDragon · 24/07/2022 01:02

YANBU. When 'treats' (Confused) from abroad are gone, they're gone.

MintJulia · 24/07/2022 01:04

Looks like a fast track to obesity and rotted teeth, to me.

Your husband is very foolish.

ihatethefuckingmuffin · 24/07/2022 01:05

When/if dad goes back he will bring another bottle.

Not acceptable then they can club any pocket money together and buy it. Funnily enough when I’ve suggested this in the past, they suddenly don’t want the overpriced thing.

I don't see what's foolish about bringing home stuff like that from abroad as a one-off treat. It's the regular habits that'll get you.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 24/07/2022 01:10

Oh jesus no! Some kid-aimed things aren’t available in the UK because the ingredients are banned for safety reasons, especially food colourings.

blacksax · 24/07/2022 01:20

Just buy ordinary maple syrup and put blue food colouring in it.

SeaToSki · 24/07/2022 01:22

That look vile. Fake maple syrup should be banned, just why..

YesIReallyDoLikeRootBeer · 24/07/2022 01:34

I'm in the US and have never seen either of those. I could see my kids wanting to try them as a one off, but I would not get it regularly

BritWifeInUSA · 24/07/2022 03:13

I live in the US and have never seen either of those, nor would I want to. You can’t beat real maple syrup. Why anyone would want fake maple syrup when the real thing is readily available here is a mystery.

Just tell the children that even Americans don’t eat it. There are at least three of us so far on this thread who’ve never even seen it before. So many delicious things in this country and he chooses that…

It’s not even real chicken… the whole plate is more fake than a Kardashian.

Happyhappyday · 24/07/2022 04:14

I mean that’s revolting. I AM American and I’ve never seen any of that shit before nor do I know anyone who feeds that garbage to their children!

id say no, it’s way too expensive, maybe next time we all visit you can try again.

mathanxiety · 24/07/2022 05:19

Where the heck did he find all that?

I've never seen those items for sale anywhere.

portinahurry · 24/07/2022 05:31

I read this and though "just buy the syrup, it's only a topping", but then I opened the picture. Nope. Blue maple syrup 'flavour'. Gross. Just bring it back from trips (if they have it in stock Wink), don't get it online. Or just get real maple syrup which is great.

BirdWatch · 24/07/2022 05:34

Disgusting crap he brought back. And no, I would not buy it for them.

ofwarren · 24/07/2022 05:36

I thought the bottle on the left was washing up liquid at first

Thirdsummerofourdiscontent · 24/07/2022 05:42

buy it for Christmas as part of their stocking, it’s not something I would keep in the house all the time.
