To wonder if this year is the latest summer break up?

Latesummers · 20/07/2022 08:47

Possibly it was 2021, which seemed to have been 23 July.

2020 was 17 July for last day of term (obviously no one in)

2019 19 July

2018 20 July

Are we actually the last to break up in Europe? I think we might be.

Kids here finished 24th June. And don't go back until 5th September.

Yes I'm in the uk.

Whereabouts in the UK are you? Is that a mainstream state school?

SheWoreYellow · 20/07/2022 08:55

You mean just your council? We’ve broken up later than that in Yorkshire in previous years.
The whole of the UK (or even the whole of England) doesn’t have the same date you know.

Scotland and NI finish around the end of June.

Anothernamechangeplease · 20/07/2022 08:56

Mine finished on 8th July. We are in England and it's a state school.

nca · 20/07/2022 08:57

Yes. Mainstream state school. Northern Ireland. That's normal here. (The September return is slightly late due to the way the start of the month falls)

coffeecupsandfairylights · 20/07/2022 08:58

If does seem late but schools here aren't going back until about September 8th which also seems late.

hedgehoglurker · 20/07/2022 08:59

Our last day is 26 July. However, 25 and 26 are inset days in our school, so they finish on Fri 22. Somerset state school.

Invisimamma · 20/07/2022 09:01

I live in the UK and we broke up on 24th June. Returning 24th August.

So really you mean England, not UK? And I agree it's ridiculously late to be beginning summer holidays, but please keep it that way so our holidays stay cheaper.

Holland Park?

my daughter's beat friend is at Holland Park and she finished on the same day as my daughter's private school. I didn't quite understand why they finished earlier than all other state schools, but it's the right thing to do imo

KarrotKake · 20/07/2022 09:08

No, its not late.
I was frequently at school on my birthday, so term must have finished after today.
I'm also at work (in a school) on my birthday next year - yes, I've already looked - so term will finish later next year.

sallladfiingerss · 20/07/2022 09:08

Manchester state school last day Weds 27 July, feels like it's going on forever!

XelaM · 20/07/2022 09:08

jsvacation · 20/07/2022 09:10

Leeds state school break up Friday 22nd.

Darhon · 20/07/2022 09:16

Northern city state is breaking up tomorrow

Latesummers · 20/07/2022 09:17

I know some schools finish earlier but most seem to be finishing this week Smile

hazelnutlatte · 20/07/2022 09:17

Mine finish today - state primary in England, my nephew in another county finishes tomorrow, I didn't know there where schools going on until next week!

3luckystars · 20/07/2022 09:18

I’m in Ireland, my son finished at the end of May and is back in September.
Do you only have a month off for the summer now?

mycatisannoying · 20/07/2022 09:20

I'm in Scotland. Our last day was 2nd July. It's the first I've known for us ever to go into July.

Smithstreet · 20/07/2022 09:21

Mine finish at lunchtime today. Seems pretty normal dates for SE England to me. Going back 5th September. So 6.5 weeks of holidays.

PandaOrLion · 20/07/2022 09:21

It varies by county. Last year Worcestershire broke up on July 16th. I know because I got married on July 17th.

A lot of Birmingham schools finished last Friday.

Yodaisawally · 20/07/2022 09:23

Finish today - should have been tomorrow but they have the owed jubilee holiday, go back on the 5th September. We have just shifted to a two week October half term so the dates have moved a bit later. SE England state.

IvorCutler · 20/07/2022 09:34

@3luckystars I’m assuming that’s secondary school? Mine finished at the end of June and go back on August 31st.

Marmite27 · 20/07/2022 09:36

jsvacation · 20/07/2022 09:10

Leeds state school break up Friday 22nd.

Us too, technically 25th & 26th are inset days, so term ends on the 26th.

Wow-I knew some places broke up early and went back early (Leicester/Scotland) but I didn’t realise Irish schools had such long summer holidays!
