To wonder if this year is the latest summer break up?

Possibly it was 2021, which seemed to have been 23 July.

2020 was 17 July for last day of term (obviously no one in)

2019 19 July

2018 20 July

Are we actually the last to break up in Europe? I think we might be.

Assuming you mean Secondary? Primaries round here (North West) are still in next week as we get 2 weeks at Whit so only a 5 week Summer.

26th July here too.

29th July is our last day so I think we „win“. (Southern Germany)

Holland Park?

my daughter's beat friend is at Holland Park and she finished on the same day as my daughter's private school. I didn't quite understand why they finished earlier than all other state schools, but it's the right thing to do imo

I don’t know about Holland Park, but in Leicestershire kids always break up around then. It’s because of the ‘Leicester fortnight’ where all the hosiery factories used to shut down. Obviously there are none now, but they still do it. Usually they go back before the bank holiday, but this year are gloriously off until September 1. We broke up on the 9th, but some Schiller locally finished on the 8th.

Technically last day is 29th July, but there's a couple of Inset days, plus the jubilee day, so they finish on Tuesday. Return on 5th September. Yorkshire.

I'd vote for the school summer holidays being brought forward in English state schools. The best summer weather is often in the term after Whitsun. By mid-August it's feeling quite autumnal!

gogohmm · 20/07/2022 12:24

Finished 15th, England, state school. Not all areas have the same holidays!

No, not Holland Park.

All of the state schools in my area finished on or around 8th July. It's just what they do.

I broke up yesterday, along with the children. Officially today and tomorrow are inset days but we've taken them as a Series of twilight sessions during the year so don't have to go in.

We return in 1 September for 2 inset days, with the children back on the 5th.

I’m in Ireland, my son finished at the end of May and is back in September.
Do you only have a month off for the summer now?

How on earth can you get 3 months off work to look after your children during a summer holiday that long??
