Need quick-ish advice re: car

Just put a deposit down for a used Honda CRV 7-seater.
Was reassured by the sales person that there is a parcel shelf to cover the boot when the third row of seats are down, so contents are not seen from outside. Now just been emailed that they made a mistake and there is no attachment for the shelf and so they don't have one. In all other respects the car is right for us and our current needs.

What do those with similar 7-seaters do to cover the things in their boot??

TIA

No idea as I've never driven a 7 seater - but could you get the back windows tinted really dark so people can't see in? Would that be an option?

This sounds odd - our 2010 CRV has one but our model is before they had 7 seats so must be older than the one you are looking at. Perhaps the previous owner lost or broke it?

thanks for the suggestion - I will ask whether they will do that. I feel that we have been mis-sold and am miffed!

Any other suggestions welcome, including if there is a parcel shelf available to buy from somewhere that would fit - I have googled but not had luck or it's unclear whether it would fit this car

I'm intrigued to know what's in your boot that needs covering?? The only person I know who ever uses that shelf is a vet who carries drugs around. We've had the 5 seater Honda CRV and now have a different make of 7 seater and I've never used the shelf, or in any other car either.

I think the 5-seaters have it as standard but the ones that covert to 7-seater may not.

ha ha, nothing remotely exciting.

Shopping, scooters, often leave my work things in the boot when I pick up DCs from school. E.g. would be nice to leave shopping in the car, go for dinner and then drive home without feeling I am tempting theft

I'd cover literally anything. You never know what someone might take a shine to if it's on display in a parked car.

What year is the car you are looking at?
When they made ours (2010) the CRV wasn't available with 7 seats so you must be looking at a different (later) model CRV.

WatchoRulo · 19/07/2022 16:06

As for other comments - our other car is a 7 seater with tinted glass (not by us) in the rear but we still use the load compartment blind to cover the stuff in the boot. It also makes it marginally quieter.

Glittertwins · 19/07/2022 16:06

We always used the roller on our 7 seaters but they were not Honda.
Have a look on after market sites

ElfDragon · 19/07/2022 16:06

That’s odd. My 7 seater Volvo had a retractable luggage cover. It had to be removed if the rear seats were being used (pita, as quite unwieldy to store!).

ExH has just got a 7 seat Skoda - I will check with him whether he has one (I say this as on research, it came down to either CRV or Skoda - he went Skoda, although imo the crv was a better fit)

iwantabreakfastpantry · 19/07/2022 16:07

@Dotjones - yes, exactly this

@WatchoRulo - 2019 petrol. That link looks good - will check it out. Thanks v much

I have a 7 seater (not same make/model) and it has a retractable parcel shelf that is removable when the 6th and 7th seats are up.

Imo, its an absolute ballache and it's been removed and put in the loft because everytime you put the back row of seats up you need to take it out anyway so then you're just left with a loose parcel shelf hanging about. I wouldn't care if it didn't come with it tbh

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 19/07/2022 16:08

Can you put a blanket or rug over whatever is in your boot?

SiobhanSharpe · 19/07/2022 16:13

We have a large coupé/hatchback and use the luggage cover when we're travelling to hide anything in the boot, especially for overnight stops en route.
We drive regularly in France and Spain and it gives a bit more peace of mind on the road.

iwantabreakfastpantry · 19/07/2022 16:14

@MrsOwainGlyndŵr - a blanket was what I was thinking but was wondering whether that would be a faff.

@HopelesslyHopeful87 - interesting that it's a pain to use. We won't be using the third row of seats often, it'll mainly be fore when MIL is with us or we are taking DCs' friends somewhere.

Maybe a combo of tinted windows and a dark rug will be enough...

I've never used a parcel shelf and it's never been a problem. If you have an iPad etc just hide it under the seat.

Confidential work stuff you shouldn't leave in the car at all- if it is very sensitive you could be sacked!

Caspianberg · 19/07/2022 16:23

I would just cover with a blanket or in a boot bag thing or similar.

we have a regular small car, and just about to sell, I had to go hunt for the parcel shelf as we have never used in 5 years! Boot so small that we can’t fit pram and shipping in with it in anyway.

not that sort of work things but people will steal anything.

Icanstillrecallourlastsummer · 19/07/2022 16:28

We've always ended up removing the shelf in all cars (not 7 seaters, but SUV type cars) as they get in the way. I doubt a couple of old scooters are going to be super tempting for someone, but just have a blanket in there if you have something you really want to hide.

boniobiscuit · 19/07/2022 16:29

I've had two CRV's and both have had tinted rear windows as standard

Mol1628 · 19/07/2022 16:35

I wouldn’t cover with a blanket. That will make thieves intrigued as to what you are hiding.

See if you can get one second hand, if not I wouldn’t want the car. But we have a lot of car smash and grabs round here.

ETPhoneHome19 · 19/07/2022 18:00

Ring a Honda garage, ask to speak to the parts department, give them the vehicle reg and see if one is available
