If you were going to do an evening course (A Level) what subject would you choose?

I'm thinking of doing an A Level for fun / hobby in the evening but not sure what subject to go for.

Perhaps politics / sociology / psychology

Anyone done these and have any feedback?

What course would you do for fun?

Hardly anywhere offer A Levels for adults because either funding, even for day time courses

The huge college I work for offers Access HE which is like A Levels for adults but it's full time and a parthway to Uni

We have GCSE Maths, English and Biology

Other night classes tend to be Accounting, Teaching courses etc.

I did politics A level and loved it.
My DS did psychology and it looked very interesting- depends if you’re decent at maths as ut has stats in it!

marxnsparx · 18/07/2022 21:49

I'd do politics. It was offered at my sixth form but I was the only person who wanted to do it, so it was cancelled. Should've started a campaign!

USaYwHatNow · 18/07/2022 23:24

I loved English Literature at A Level and would 100% do it again

YerAWizardHarry · 18/07/2022 23:26

I did both sociology and psychology as Highers (Scotland) sociology was fun, psychology was nothing like I expected, it was much more “medical” than I thought it would be

KalvinPhillipsBoots · 18/07/2022 23:27

I think I would do fashion design knowing what I like now, or Law.

Lds1 · 18/07/2022 23:29

Geography or geology

Geography or geology

bettbburg · 18/07/2022 23:34

@Lds1 that's a coincidence as I hadn't seen your post before I did mine.

Elphame · 18/07/2022 23:35

Latin would be my choice

isthatwhatyoureallywanted · 18/07/2022 23:36

I really struggled to choose my A level subjects and would still like to do Geography & Biology
I think psychology, sociology & economics could all be really interesting, particularly now I'm older. The first two might have been wasted on teenage me.
History of Art would be interesting.

LightDrizzle · 18/07/2022 23:36

The language of a country whose culture I love.

MarshaMelrose · 18/07/2022 23:40

History. Anglo saxons and medieval period.

mewkins · 18/07/2022 23:40

I did a sociology a level and then degree. I really enjoyed it and it is really good for critical thinking. However I would try to do a taster first as you need a good teacher who encourages debate I think.

I would probably take philosophy now if I wanted to do one.

Hawkins001 · 18/07/2022 23:40

Finance, covering e.g. Balance sheets of corporations, stocks and shares investing in the stock markets.

I've been researching the housing crash in 2008 and it's lead to an intrigue with the stock market in general, so at the moment, I'm a business minded stock market day trader in training, so to speak.

Hawkins001 · 18/07/2022 23:41

Then my other options are, espionage, forensic science, psychology, archaeology, strategic management.

Hawkins001 · 18/07/2022 23:42

I guess I do need to brush up my political knowledge too

caringcarer · 18/07/2022 23:47

I'd like Politics. I already have Psychology, Sociology, English Literature, Business Studies and History. I'm useless at Maths, Science, Art and Languages so rules them out.

Geography or sign language

Shiloh139 · 19/07/2022 01:12

I did psychology and sociology at A Level and very much enjoyed them both, but psychology was the most enjoyable of the two.

If I was to do an evening course now though I'd choose a language - Italian. Have fun studying in whatever you end up picking.

butterflyflutterby123 · 19/07/2022 01:18

History. Loved it but couldn't take due to pool clash

MrsAvocet · 19/07/2022 01:26

Maths. I wanted to do it for A level but was made to do Physics instead. Probably was actually the right choice really but I still regret not doing maths. I'm retired now and have actually considered doing it, but it's so long since I've done any kind of exam that I'm not sure I could cope!

ClinkeyMonkey · 19/07/2022 01:26

German. I did it for A level in 1984 and failed - even though I liked it and was pretty good at it. The literature was wonderful. I just wasn't feeling the love for studying at the time. I reckon I'd do pretty well now if I put the work in.

TooManyPJs · 19/07/2022 01:35

Statistics. Definitely. Tried to find somewhere offering it but can't find anywhere that offers adult A levels at all locally.
