My mum had let my 7 year old watch Stranger Things

Aibu to think this is really inappropriate?!

season 4, which I’ve seen myself, is quite horror based and even scares me in places!

My 7 year old is scared of everything. She won’t even entertain fighting scenes in cartoons as they upset her.

I know for a fact she will have forced herself to watch so that she could stay up later with my mum. I’m so annoyed as it’s me that’s going to be dealing with nightmares and I just don’t think a 7 year old needs to see that sort of imagery.

She’s there for 2 more days and I’ve told my mum absolutely no way is she to watch anymore of it and that it won’t kill her to watch a kids film every once in a while.

Much as I love Stranger things, I’d be very cross if this was me. my 6.5yr old would be terrified by it.

Totally agree it’s inappropriate, I saw something on Facebook about people talking about their 7 or 8 year old watching it… I’m an adult and had nightmares! Maybe your mum didn’t realise what the content was like…

No she knew full well! She just doesn’t think kids need to be shielded from this stuff.

I would tell her no more of that but then leave it.

Grandparents can be somewhat clueless about this stuff, or maybe it's just some people. Even if you know a kid is sensitive, if you aren't around children a lot you lose track of what is typical for age. Sensitive at 8 and sensitive at 14 aren't the same.

It might be a good time to have a chat with your daughter about taking note when something upsets/bothers her and speaking up or leaving. That's a worthwhile skill in all kinds of situations.

7!!
Jesus wept my 10 year old would be horrified by ST
Seems like there's loads of kids being dragged up these days if people think its ok for 7 year olds to watch that

I'm in my 30s and it scared me!

Definitely not appropriate for a 7yo.
