My mum had let my 7 year old watch Stranger Things

Aibu to think this is really inappropriate?!

season 4, which I’ve seen myself, is quite horror based and even scares me in places!

My 7 year old is scared of everything. She won’t even entertain fighting scenes in cartoons as they upset her.

I know for a fact she will have forced herself to watch so that she could stay up later with my mum. I’m so annoyed as it’s me that’s going to be dealing with nightmares and I just don’t think a 7 year old needs to see that sort of imagery.

She’s there for 2 more days and I’ve told my mum absolutely no way is she to watch anymore of it and that it won’t kill her to watch a kids film every once in a while.

I’d be livid. I’ve seen clips and it looks scary.

cheninblanc · 16/07/2022 15:34

I'd be really cross at this

Robin233 · 16/07/2022 15:35

It's a 15.
7 is far too young
It could give her nightmares.

SlashBeef · 16/07/2022 15:36

I would be collecting my child..

Thelnebriati · 16/07/2022 15:37

Has your mother explained why she thought this was a good idea, and will she accept your rules about what your DD is allowed to watch?

Nadal · 16/07/2022 15:37

Totally wrong. Did your daughter actually watch it?

Icedbannoffee · 16/07/2022 15:41

I'd be annoyed too, the content isn't suitable for a 7 year old especially one who scares easily. I suspect her attitude will be well if you don't like it I won't have them again, but sounds like that could be for the best.

CucumberCool · 16/07/2022 15:43

Omg that's completely horrific. The bit where the demon pulls them in the air and breaks their limbs and breaks their jaw and gouges out their eyes?! They will need therapy...

girlmom21 · 16/07/2022 15:46

Has she had nightmares since she watched it?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/07/2022 15:47

Who is voting that @MiniMoosey is being unreasonable? And why? Confused

SleeplessInEngland · 16/07/2022 15:47

It's not suitable and she should have noted the rating but I can see why someone unaware of it might confuse it for a Spielbergian kids show. It's a tonal clusterfuck of sentimental sap and gory horror.

EV117 · 16/07/2022 15:47

I would be really annoyed too.
It’s obviously not suitable for a 7 year old and if someone didn’t have the sense to realise that as they’re watching it I wouldn’t leave my child with them to be honest.

Loveisnotloving · 16/07/2022 15:52

No, WAY too much for a 7 year old.

MiniMoosey · 16/07/2022 16:33

I think because she used to let me watch horror at that age she thinks it’s ok. But I wasn’t a sensitive child and she knows my child is.

I'm as laid back as anything, but that's completely inappropriate.

I don't care how sensitive or not you are, horror is not suitable for children.

Why on earth do they need to see such imagery?

ManateeFair · 16/07/2022 16:57

Isn’t this about the third or fourth thread we’ve had now about kids watching Stranger Things at increasingly young ages?

I know most of her friends at school have watched it.

Not appropriate at all, having seen it myself I don't let my 10 year old watch it never mind the younger one! Admittedly before I saw it I was expecting something of similar scariness to Dr Who or Marvel films, but my 6 year old wouldn't be ok with those either.

Youdoyoutoday · 16/07/2022 17:16

Completely inappropriate!!

Even I snuggled up to DH after watching it before bed!! Vecna was fucking terrifying and the floating, bone breaking bodies!! 😱

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 16/07/2022 17:18

my 11 year old in year 6 has watched it but I haven't heard of any of the much younger kids seeing it.

My 8 year old year 4 son hasn't and he doesn't know anyone in his year that has, or at least they aren't admitting to it !

It would be too scary for my 8 year old , especially season 4 I'd be annoyed with your mum too

CatsArePeople · 16/07/2022 17:18

you need to chill

Whatkatyforgottodo · 16/07/2022 17:22

I’ve watched the first few seasons and found the storyline excellent but it scared the crap out of me! One of my 10 year old daughters friends has watched it and seems to have enjoyed it but I wouldn’t let my 10 year old watch it! Maybe when she’s 14?!

Fuckitydoodah · 16/07/2022 17:26

I'd be livid. Totally inappropriate for age 7. I hope she isn't too affected by it.

Monoandsix · 16/07/2022 17:26

My parents let me watch all manner of inappropriate stuff at that age (think Robocop, nightmare on elm street) but they know better than to let my kids watch things like that!
