Not sure AIBU - can anyone shed any light on them please?
Who organises?
How do they know the gender?
Why/how don’t they parents know the gender?

Parents to be organise it. It gets written down during an ultrasound purposely for finding out the sex
Ptb would take that to someone who makes the balloon/cannon and hand it over in exchange for a blue or a pink one
Parents to be take it home and reveal it

ShirleyPhallus · 13/07/2022 20:49

Is this thread started in good faith really, cos we all know it’s going to be 8 pages talking about how tacky they are….
….. and another 18 pages saying “SEX NOT GENDER OP!!!”

the parents organise them and let off a little glitter cannon or something. They know the sex and the purpose is to tell friends and family.

like lots of things in life, some people like them a lot and some people hate them.which is fine.

But let’s now spend some time judging the people who like them ey

I didn't think the parents already knew, most of the time it is a surprise to them as well (or certainly has been in my circle of friends)

Ontomatopea · 13/07/2022 20:51

Parents organise.
Someone like hides it in a balloon or a firework or a cake. The scanning place writes it on paper but the parents don't look.

CorpusCallosum · 13/07/2022 20:51

The parents can organise it, the only thing they can't do is order the balloon/party popper/cake but they can ask someone else to order and pay for it.

They've had a gender scan and the sonographer has written the gender down on a piece of paper and put it in an envelope. The parents give that to the person who's ordering the 'reveal' item.

I don't mind the trend. It's an excuse for a party and it's nice to have a centrepiece moment at that kind of gathering. Who cares if it's 'just for social media'? I think it's lovely for the joy of the couples to be captured as a memory 🥰

popcorndiva · 13/07/2022 20:53

Yeah they get given an envelope and usually a family member uses that info to get a cake or balloon, canon to surprise the couple. Though it seems to be a competition on how elaborate the reveal can be.

Ontomatopea · 13/07/2022 20:53

Yeah parents don't know. It's only really worth doing one if both parents don't mind what gender it is otherwise it can be a little awkward if it's not what they hoped for.

Happy to live up to thread expectations and provide both of those responses! They absolutely are tacky as fuck, every single one of them. And it IS sex not gender.

Fghkjsin · 13/07/2022 21:00

"Party's" ????

LadyCampanulaTottington · 13/07/2022 21:01

Although I agree sex, not gender, I would be hugely disappointed if I was invited to a sex reveal party and it ended up being a gender reveal.

You know what they mean....

EvergreenForest · 13/07/2022 21:03

Agree with pp, very very goady thread. Suspect OP is sitting somewhere comfy with a bowl of popcorn waiting for the fireworks 🍿

HelloMrBond · 13/07/2022 21:04

Proof that the world is getting more crazy by the day. I expect there’ll be consummation party’s next…..

Pink or blue fireworks though?

Yep, I've only been to one and there were tears.
It was embarrassing

EvergreenForest · 13/07/2022 21:11

@stuntbubbles 😆 depends on the gender sex I guess 💙 💖

Oh that's awful! Why did they have one!

goldierocks · 13/07/2022 21:19

This thread reminded me of a cartoon that made me laugh. I hope I've been able to attach it properly!

brookstar · 13/07/2022 21:36

Oh that's awful! Why did they have one!

They're very young and it seems to be the done thing amongst their friends. I only went cos were related and not going would have caused ructions.

WatchoRulo · 13/07/2022 22:05

I loved one of Charlie Brooker's fictional characters - he had a side hustle as a DJ and non-binary gender reveal parties.

Cactusprick · 13/07/2022 22:12

if you have a private scan lots of them can sell you a confetti canon with blue or pink in, and it’s just plain on the outside, so the parents can go and let it off and have a surprise the same day.

FlissyPaps · 13/07/2022 22:16

It’s just an excuse for the parents to have a party/get together just to post the videos on social media.

I can guarantee no one at the reveals care what sex the child will be.

EL8888 · 13/07/2022 22:21

Never been to one and never will. But l
suppose they must get a bit more lively if someone is unhappy with the pink / blue answer. Especially if alcohol involved so maybe l should keep more of an open mind about them…

murakamilove · 14/07/2022 07:40

Hi - I’m honestly not, I’m just confused as to the ones I’ve seen where the parents don’t seem to know & I haven’t been able to work out how.
And I thought they were called Gender reveal?
