Have you? I haven't seen her speak yet and never heard of her before now. Wondered if it was just me, is she well known? Bookies joint favourite to be next PM apparently Confused

She's pretty well known -especially if you're a politics nerd like me-

SarahSissions · 13/07/2022 11:57

It’s just you. She was the first woman Secretary of State for defence.
she also gained notoriety for joining a debate in the commons solely to use rude words as a dare by navy reserve mates.
sounds like the sort of person I’d like to have a gin with

PurpleDaisies · 13/07/2022 11:59

Didn’t you watch Splash with Tom Daley?

LondonBased · 13/07/2022 12:00

Pop over to the Feminism Sex and Gender discussion board OP. Masses of information about PM over there including recordings of interviews and phone ins that she has done.

the80sweregreat · 13/07/2022 12:00

I vaguely remember her doing the 'splash ! ' Reality show on ITV years ago , but I didn't watch it, so I knew her name from that and she was an MP

She was also a magician's assistant once too ( so I read )
She has upset some people in the past with her views on trans rights which is different to what most of the others think about that subject ( so I believe ) but I can't do links to back up or verify what she said.
She was once in the military too.

TooBigForMyBoots · 13/07/2022 12:00

She's very well known as a Trans activist. I have seen many posters like yourself @springsally who did not know who she was until recently. I was really surprised given the single issue GC voters and wider Conservative voters here.Confused

Benes · 13/07/2022 12:02

I'd never heard of her either but apparently my DH wins a fortune if she becomes the next PM as he put a bet on it ages ago......

Benes · 13/07/2022 12:04

Although he's not particularly keen on her......

SavoirFlair · 13/07/2022 12:05

It’s just you @springsally

HipTightOnions · 13/07/2022 12:07

Given that she's nicknamed "Penny Dormant" I wouldn't feel too bad about it.

Namerchangerextraordinaire · 13/07/2022 12:13

She is a raving Trans Right Activist who shouldn't be left in charge of a stationery cupboard, let alone permitted to handmaid away womens rights.

Ha ha I remember that!

Breaking news on Twitter ( sky news) just now
PM is on course to be the new PM !!
Not sure how they know this though ?..

springsally · 13/07/2022 13:30

Seems to me quite weird that she could be PM fairly soon then. I suppose we will be seeing her on TV during this contest at least, those of us who hadn't heard of her.

OP posts:
buckeejit · 13/07/2022 13:31

She's a liar liar pants on fire & now says she never supported self ID

the80sweregreat · 13/07/2022 13:39

Will she still support self ID if she is PM ?

ilovesooty · 13/07/2022 13:41

I was aware of her in government previously.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 13/07/2022 13:42

If you remember the issues around writing the legislation for maternity leave Penny Mourdant was the minister responsible who did not want to use the word mother or woman. Of course now she's trying to rewrite history

Not many had heard of Cameron before. He was a backbencher before he became PM.

the80sweregreat · 13/07/2022 13:49

It's harder to rewrite history these days because it's all logged and timed and dated and will be held against anyone trying to fudge or lie and held against you.
She'll struggle to worm her way out of what she said previously, she already is having grief on Twitter about it etc

the80sweregreat · 13/07/2022 13:50

The public seem to like her.

TollgateDebs · 13/07/2022 13:54

Met her once at a debate. Politicians seem to be a breed apart these days and not a great deal to recommend any of them. Only thing she did that impressed was not ignore those of us in the room, unlike the Labour and Lib Dem MPs!! I am not sure any of them have a vision, more a plan to increase their earning's potential and pension pot!

springsally · 13/07/2022 14:00

Just as well if we end up with her as PM without any public voting for her

Coastalcreeksider · 13/07/2022 14:10

Portsmouth is fairly near to me so I had heard of her before the race to become new PM thrust her into the limelight along with all the other contenders for the hot seat..
