To cut my grass

ThatsBullshirt · 10/07/2022 09:34

We got back from holiday yesterday and the grass in the back garden is so overgrown as I didn't get to cut it for a couple of weeks due to DH having covid and really bad weather. It's a gorgeous day and I am itching to get it cut so the kids and I can get out into the garden today.

AIBU to cut it around 10am? Is that too early for a Sunday?

19 is fine.. anyone who really needs sleep won't hear anything 🥴

CuriousCatfish · 10/07/2022 09:38

Of course it's fine.

11Hawkins · 10/07/2022 09:38

Fine to cut it now.

Namechanger1002 · 10/07/2022 09:38

I am cutting mine at 10 this morning. I think it is an acceptable time for a Sunday.

Weatherwax · 10/07/2022 09:39

I always think 10am onwards for rhe weekend. You can start getting the stuff ready now!

User952539 · 10/07/2022 09:41

It’s fine but foolish. It is going to be hot and so the exposed tops of the grass will scorch. You will have dry looking grass.

wait until the evening

iwishiwasonhol · 10/07/2022 09:41

next door was cutting hers at 8am this morn with her music on ,i think 10am is a good time on a weekend

SpikeyHatePotato · 10/07/2022 09:44

It’s not to early from a neighbour perspective but agree with pp that your grass won’t thank you for it!
why don’t you enjoy the lovely weather and cut it this evening?

If you’re too tired to go out for the day, there’s the Wimbledon finals to watch from 1/2pm and the Austrian GP on from 530/6pm?

chilledbubble · 10/07/2022 09:46

Wait until the evening

JamMakingWannaBe · 10/07/2022 09:48

For the sake of your lawn rather than your neighbours, definitely wait until the cooler evening.

ThatsBullshirt · 10/07/2022 10:28

How hot is too hot too cut your grass and risk scorching?

User952539 · 10/07/2022 10:30

This hot

User952539 · 10/07/2022 10:31

But basically any very sunny day with no imminent rain forecast

Rebelmcstreettuff · 10/07/2022 10:33

My neighbour was strimming theirs at 9am this morning with their daughter screaming at the top of her lungs.
I just wanted to sit and have a coffee in peace.
Some people are so inconsiderate to others.
When my kids were little I waited till a reasonable hour to let them in the garden.

So 18C is too hot?

That would be why I was asking for opinions. I could hear a couple of other lawnmowers either much further down the street or on neighbouring ones so 10am seems to be thought of as acceptable. My kids aren't outside yet either.

Where would someone live that they'd need to ask if 10am was too early to cut the grass? Whereever it is I'd hate to feel a restriction on doing a perfectly normal thing, how do all the neighbours stick to a rule like that?

gamerchick · 10/07/2022 10:48

It's too late now OP. You'll wreck it if you do it now. Wait until it cools off a bit later on.

User952539 · 10/07/2022 10:49

It isn’t that 18 is necessarily too hot, it’s that gig will be chopping the top off the grass and leaving effectively a plant wound. It’s already hot and sunny. It will then get hotter and sunnier throughout the day and your grass will scorch. Better to do it in the evening when it has the cool of the night and the dew the next morning to help it recover

gamerchick · 10/07/2022 10:50

Course if you're not arsed on its condition as a lot of people aren't and it's just the length that's bugging you then crack on. It isn't too early for lawnmowers.

Topseyt123 · 10/07/2022 10:51

Of course 10am is fine. Why not?

I'd just cut it, and wouldn't even care about scorching. It will recover.

Ifailed · 10/07/2022 10:55

To all those people saying don't cut the grass when it's warm, do you think farmers remove their sheep & cattle from fields to prevent 'damaging' to the grass as well?

Cameronnorrieisabitofalright · 10/07/2022 10:58

7 am is fine for screaming here.
And I mean adults.
Selfish Cunts.

Hardly the same. Farmers don't give a toss when they've got animals chewing on it. People who care about the look and condition of their lawn don't cut it on a hot day. They wait until later.

NeedMoMoney · 10/07/2022 11:33

My retired neighbour started trimming the hedges at bang on 8 this morning!!! For an hour!!! 😤😡 I think 10 would have been fine though 😄
