Nose piercing (interview)

Daisychains29 · 08/07/2022 07:44

Hi all

I have a nose piercing (ring) that I have recently has done. I have an interview on Monday for a receptionist job. Would you take the nose ring out for the interview? Or keep it in and say you would
be happy to remove it if you got the job? I think it would heal over quickly as I only had it done a month ago.

You can get 'invisible' studs.

How long ago was it pierced? Id be wary of risk of infection if taking it out before fully healed.

OneEyedPenguin · 08/07/2022 07:46

If it's one of those bull rings then take it out, they make a lot of people feel sick.

MrsTimRiggins · 08/07/2022 07:46

I would leave it be, and wouldn’t even mention it. Best of luck with your interview!

knackeredagain · 08/07/2022 07:46

I think it depends on the job

ForensicFlossy · 08/07/2022 07:47

I am a reception manager and seeing a nose piercing on a candidate wouldn't worry me at all. However I work in an area of the arts (although a very professional setup).

Iheartmysmart · 08/07/2022 07:48

I wouldn’t personally. I’ve got a small stud in my nose piercing and most people very rarely even notice it. If it is mentioned during your interview just say you’ve only just had it done but as soon as it has healed you would be willing to swap the ring for a small stud.

georgarina · 08/07/2022 07:49

It depends what kind of place you're interviewing for. If it's a very conservative upscale place maybe get an invisible stud. If it's somewhere like a young office, media place, young type of restaurant etc it would probably help lol.

spotcheck · 08/07/2022 07:52

The thing is OP, if they start frothing at the mouth over a standard nose piercing, is that the right place for you?

I wouldn’t bat an eye over it

PinkButtercups · 08/07/2022 07:56

I have a small nose ring and never taken it out for interviews. The only time I take my nose ring out is when I'm in surgery for obvious reasons.

Daisychains29 · 08/07/2022 08:03

Thank you everyone. It’s a small nostril ring

I had it done a month ago. It is for a reception job in the property industry

When I had mine done they put a thick ring in with a ball in it, it looked really obvious, I'd not have gone for an interview with it in. I've now got a thin gold ring which 'imo' looks nice and subtle. I think it depends just how obvious it is. In my experience with nose rings, if you take it out within a month, even for a few hours you'll struggle to get it back in again.

housemaus · 08/07/2022 08:47

I wouldn't take it out - if it's the kind of place where it's not acceptable, then are you never going to wear it at work? (And would you want to work somewhere that old fashioned!?!). And if you are going to wear it at work you may as well have it in in the interview.

I work in a very stuffy old fashioned industry and have had a nose ring the entire time, nobody's ever batted an eyelid.

Katrinamama · 08/07/2022 08:57

I have a black nose ring and work in finance. I decided that if anywhere had a problem with it then I had a problem with the job. Since then I've had jobs with three top wealth manager and nobody ever mentioned it! Good luck with your interview!

TabithaTittlemouse · 08/07/2022 08:58

Maybe just change it for a small stud for the interview?

ComtesseDeSpair · 08/07/2022 08:59

Leave it in. I have a nose ring and work at senior level in one of the most traditional, conservative industries in financial services. It’s never been an issue.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 08/07/2022 08:59

I've always kept mine in. Got the job.

Depends on the company

ohmygash · 08/07/2022 09:02

I have my nose pierced and wouldn’t wear a ring to an interview. It won’t close over if you swap it for a small subtle stud

FlatWhiteLover · 08/07/2022 09:04

If they want you that much, they wont hire you based on a nose ring, however they might ask you to remove it before you start. This happened to a friend of mine, turned up to a job interview with a nose piercing, they offered it to her but they asked not to wear a nose ring to work because they had conserative customers.

RampantIvy · 08/07/2022 09:06

If I was interviewing you I would want to know if you were suitable for the job, and would ignore the nose ring.

That said, I really don't like nose rings, or any facial piercing. I find them deeply unattractive and they give me the ick.

DdraigGoch · 08/07/2022 09:36

How much do you want/need the job? If you're desperate for work, then it's worth making changes that may help you get it. If you have other options, then be yourself and accept that it may influence their decision, or it may not.

Same. It would put me off, especially if you are in a client facing role as it might make clients feel the same. I say this as someone from a culture where this is very much the done thing for women.

Mysteryuser · 08/07/2022 09:44

A bit off topic, but we used to rent an office and had a shared receptionist (who we hadn't recruited). I was slightly concerned that some of our more conservative clients would notice her (very large number of ) tattoos, but they all absolutely loved her and thought she was brilliant ( which she was). I don't think a nose piercing should put anyone off, and if it does, as PPs have said, are they worth it?

ShaneTwane · 08/07/2022 09:48

I have mine pierced 4 times including a septum ring which uneducated people refer to as a bull ring. I work in a solicitors firm dealing with face to face enquiries and admin and no one has an issue with any of my facial piercings. If they don't like it they would ask you to change it if you got the job. You can get clear retainer studs where you can't see the piercings at all.

123InTheSky · 08/07/2022 09:49

I have nose ring and have done for the last 7 years or so.

Had at least 6 job offers in that time at different companies and at a professional/manager level including client facing.

I wouldn’t want to work for somewhere that didn’t accept that…as it is probably an insight into all the other aspects they would have issue over.

(also never heard, directly or otherwise that it makes people feel sick🙄)
