To be struggling this much without a TV?

Bananaandraisins · 07/07/2022 16:47

We are in rented accommodation and can’t get the TV to connect.

I never thought I watched a lot but I am really missing it. I just want to be able to put a bit of CBeebies on for the kids and watch the odd programme myself!

Do you have iplayer on the device you are using to post here?

Bananaandraisins · 07/07/2022 16:49

Yes but it isn’t the same at all.

Why not?!

hillbillyannie · 07/07/2022 16:56

Screen not a million inches wide and wall mounted I reckon.

Bananaandraisins · 07/07/2022 16:56

Have you ever tried to give a phone to a toddler to watch CBeebies on?

Yodaisawally · 07/07/2022 16:55

Why not?!

Is it quite small? Like your phone? Have you tried sitting nearer to it?

Ah I see yes that won't work. Hmm..

KittyCatsby · 07/07/2022 16:58

Why are you not getting someone in to get it working ?

LIZS · 07/07/2022 16:58

No aerial?

Bananaandraisins · 07/07/2022 16:59

We’re in rented - we won’t be here long. Complete pain though.

Get a Fire stick or something.

ladygindiva · 07/07/2022 16:59

Worth buying a firestick ?

Bananaandraisins · 07/07/2022 17:00

The fire stick won’t work - it won’t connect to the internet. Not sure why.

You could all reenact your toddlers favourite shows?

Yes, that's what we do in the shops. What's the problem?

LIZS · 07/07/2022 17:04

Dvd player?

RampantIvy · 07/07/2022 17:06

If you have a laptop that connects to the WiFi you can use an HDMI cable to connect it to the TV. That is what DD does in her student accommodation.

Bananaandraisins · 07/07/2022 17:13

Mine grabs and jabs the phone so the show goes off Smile

Harridance · 07/07/2022 17:40

I thought a firestick would work if you have Internet in the property?

Floogal · 07/07/2022 17:42

Had to move flat a few times and would go weeks without a TV. Thought I'd listen to the radio a bit more to make up for it. Half the time the DJs would only talk about last night's TV.
Unless you have an active social life or hobbies, having no TV is actually depressing

Mine manages to get the camera on and then I end up with photos of their nose.

YABVU. I haven't had a tv for years and don't miss it. Do other things- read for example. What did we do with kids before we relied on screens to entertain them? Maybe take this as an opportunity to wean you all off the screen habit and actually interact with your kids, or teach them to entertain themselves with games and toys etc.
I'm shocked by the way that one poster thinks it's ok to have her toddler watch tv on a phone in the shops. No wonder kids are growing up with low attention spans and a need to be constantly entertained.

Bananaandraisins · 07/07/2022 18:12

Same @chilledbubble

@DrDetriment my 18 month old can’t read independently yet. We’re working on it.

Then give them tactile toys and things to touch and interact with. No 18 month year old should be stuck in front of a TV.

Bananaandraisins · 07/07/2022 18:20

Of course I do @DrDetriment . Plenty of toys, indoor and outdoor, books and puzzles, loads of activities, going to the farm, park, soft play and so on. And you know, by the time it’s 530, I’m still desperate for Iggle Piggle to save my sanity!
