To feel embarrassed about this?

I had to help prepare some fruit (cut it up) for an event we had on today at work. There were apples, bananas and oranges etc. One of my colleagues said I was slicing apples wrong and laughed loudly making everyone else turn around. Aibu to say this was wrong of her to embarrass me? E

It’s a non issue in the grand scheme of things. Just shrug it off and move on.

Buythebag40 · 07/07/2022 15:57

How does one slice an apple incorrectly? Can you explain your method? 😂

Dotjones · 07/07/2022 15:58

If her idea was to embarrass you, it was wrong. Does she have form for that type of thing?

Rosebuud · 07/07/2022 15:59

I’d say you were maybe very sensitive?

RandomQuest · 07/07/2022 15:59

There’s a wrong way to slice an apple… who knew… What exactly were you doing to it?
Colleague sounds weird but it really isn’t worth dwelling on.

Brunilde · 07/07/2022 16:06

Obviously it wasn't nice to embarrass you but hopefully she didn't mean to. People have different tolerances to these kinds of things. My friends and I would laugh at one another for something like this but not in a mean spirited way. We all have funny little ways and if you do cut it in a strange way so what! But if I realised I cut it differently to most people I would probably laugh at myself.

BlueThursday · 07/07/2022 16:09

Did you not consult your copy of debretts before chopping?

Wilkolampshade · 07/07/2022 16:17

Did you slice it across? Into circles? That would be odd yes, as all the pieces would be in different sizes?
I think you're probably being oversensitive unless this person is always finding fault with things.

Bagpuss2022 · 07/07/2022 16:22

For her secret Santa get her one of those things that chips apples perfectly if she’s such a concern how they are cut!

TheLostNights · 07/07/2022 16:25

I just cut it in half then turned it flat, sliced it up. Was not perfectly sized, cut slices but it wasn't like I left the core in or anything like that.

Nothing to feel embarrassed about. I would have just laughed it off. I'm quite sure I would cut fruit differently to other people. Who wants to eat chopped up banana? That would make me feel like I was a toddler!

Chazzagirl2 · 07/07/2022 16:28

Unless you sliced it with your teeth or by using karate chops, I can’t think of a way in which slicing an apple would be wrong. Just ignore her.

SunshineAndFizz · 07/07/2022 16:29

Sliced like you'd slice bread (big circles) or into segments (like and orange)?

hulahooper2 · 07/07/2022 16:31

Who would give a 2nd thought to how fruit is cut

TopCatsTopHat · 07/07/2022 16:31

She sounds like a bit of a dick she wasn't just trying to amuse in a harmless but socially clumsy way.
If she was actually being rude I think I'd have just batted it back and made it clear she was rude and that's worse than deviance in apple cutting method (🙄)

That sounds like how I would cut an apple.

Don't worry about it people probably only looked to see what was happening as she was laughing or glared at her. No one will be thinking about it.

xogossipgirlxo · 07/07/2022 16:36

As long as you weren't taking a bite and spitting it out to the fruit bowl, I think there's no wrong way to slice an apple. Your colleague is weird, just ignore her.

itsgettingweird · 07/07/2022 16:41

The right way to cut an apple is with an apple slicer Grin

Seriously though she was a cow.

Next time just hand her the job and say - glad you're volunteering to help to make sure it's right and walk off before they can say they weren't!

dudsville · 07/07/2022 16:45

It's an odd thing for her to comment on. And as for you, well what if all of MN all came in saying that they agreed that you cut apples in an odd way? So what? Slice bananas long ways, use a melon baller in your apples. Own your fruit prep methods!

Yes! There is no right way, use your imagination and go wild. Who cares. As long as its in smaller bits than it was to start with.

Isaidnoalready · 07/07/2022 16:47

Ummm I would have given her the task

IsThisReallyAcceptable · 07/07/2022 16:47

Now i just need to know how SHE cuts apples! Your way is the right and only way.

Chikapu · 07/07/2022 16:49

Are you an adult? If so then this should be very low on your list of things to give a shit about.

2bazookas · 07/07/2022 16:51

I would not have felt at all embarrassed and can't think why you did.

@hulahooper2 I normally would not but a coworker once had her banana cut into lengthways slices in her lunch bag, like floppy six inch ovals of banana and that image has never left me
