That's just brilliant!

Americano75 · 05/07/2022 09:52

They seem to have nailed pissing off their customers with their 'if you don't agree with our woo woo you a) are an arsehole and b) you can fuck off' pomposity.

Interesting marketing strategy.

MissWired · 05/07/2022 10:00

Love it... I'm definitely doing a Caesar if anyone asks me!

MaggieMagpie357 · 05/07/2022 16:54

This makes me so afraid for my 15 year old's future. What's wrong with accepting that some people don't conform to your idea of "normal"? How are pronouns on a badge affecting you?

HintofVintagePink · 05/07/2022 16:57

It’s the irony that makes me chuckle.

grumpygiraffe · 05/07/2022 17:08

Pathetic.

SmileyPiuPiu · 05/07/2022 17:11

Could they not have just not any pronouns on?

motogirl · 05/07/2022 17:13

If you use someone's name you don't need pronouns and is polite as well!

Why is it acceptable to force someone to declare their pronouns? Imagine someone is struggling with gender dysphoria and their workplace tells them to declare it on their chest when they are finding it hard to deal with their own personal struggles but told they must do and out themselves while they are privately dealing with this? Is that ok? Should we also ask people to declare I am gay, straight, bisexual on their badges too?

People who put unusual pronouns on their badges are the same as everyone else, is really the point. They aren't more diverse.

You've got it back to front. We do accept that some people don't conform to society's sense of 'normal'. We accept them. What we do not accept is that we are expected to pretend that reality can change to affirm their ideas.

neverbeenskiing · 05/07/2022 17:23

Why is it acceptable to force someone to declare their pronouns?

Halifax have been very clear that this is optional. Staff will only have their pronouns on their name badges if they want them.

Ah thats OK then. Don't see what the problem is.

They say it is optional but then those who do not will then likely face pressure and or be the ones who are seen as a target to be pushed out by bullying managers. We all know what optional means in most workplaces.

Throckmorton · 05/07/2022 17:50

Highlighting being female disadvantages women in the workplace, so this is bad on those grounds. It's bad for people still midway through dysphoria (as described above). It's also unnecessary - if I need to refer to the staff member I saw yesterday, saying a name is far more useful than saying she or he, which could be half of their workforce. This also feeds into the whole gender ideology, which many people don't believe in. Plus, what other protected characteristics would it be ok to suggest people state? I mean it would actually help people struggling with mental health issues if they could see they weren't alone, so should we also put out mental health diagnoses on our badges?

AdobeWanKenobi · 05/07/2022 17:50

Can I also ad to this, their new advert with the fish bowl and two HUGE goldfish in a completely unsuitable set up that is far too small for them.

Maybe have a look at animal welfare as well as your diversity eh Halifax?

JellySaurus · 05/07/2022 17:51

What about the customers? Will they be obliged to submit to the pronoun-wearer's desire to compel others to go along with their personal ideology?

Jott · 05/07/2022 18:00

Why are so many people getting so het up about a badge!? It's a piece of plastic with words on it, it has literally no impact on you or your day, and I agree with Halifax - if you're upset about it then jog on.

Oh Maggie won't be back. They never come back...

Helleofabore · 05/07/2022 18:12

Anyone now cringe at how the word ‘normal’ now gets used to mean ‘those who fit in this new narrow box that some people need to make them feel unique’, and no longer means just people who have a hugely wide range of ideas, beliefs and living their lives as suits (as long as they follow the law)?

It must be hard to accept that everyone has their own unique identity and only people really determined to be seen to fit into the box fit into the box called ‘normal’ when it is deployed in this particular way.

Jott · 05/07/2022 18:12

Maybe because it's exhausting arguing against people so entrenched in hatred that they're triggered by a badge....?

Aside from a few internet loudmouth types, I have never met a transperson who wants to erase women, who hates women, or who wants their rights placed above the rights of women. Every transperson I have met in RL is supportive of women's rights, doesn't want special treatment, they just want to be treated like human fucking beings. And the same goes for the other side of the issue, only online have I seen loudmouth types spewing bigoted comments about transpeople, in RL most people don't give a shit.

MaggieMagpie357 · 05/07/2022 21:18

Actually @bigfootisreal my child is currently experiencing from gender dysphoria. Don't be so quick to judge.

As PP have said, Halifax have quite clearly stated that pronouns on your name badge is optional. And yes, it's completely and utterly exhausting to constantly battle bullshit like this.

What was judgy about what I said? So you'd be happy for their employers to force them to declare this when they don't want to?

It might be stated it is optional but pressures make it hard for it to be optional, we all know that. It also points out those who do not comply and makes them more of a target for management as someone who doesn't do what is expected.
