Why are so many people getting so het up about a badge!? It's a piece of plastic with words on it, it has literally no impact on you or your day, and I agree with Halifax - if you're upset about it then jog on.

It isn't about a badge at all, it is about dividing people, shaming people into complying and forcing people to do things they do not want to do. It is nothing to do with inclusive employment and more about politics in the workplace.

Jott · 05/07/2022 21:44

It's optional.

MaggieMagpie357 · 05/07/2022 21:49

Exactly what @Jott said.

And my child is confident in their pronouns - perhaps some more research on gender issues would help you understand the issue here.

It's optional.

It is optional but when there is pressure from within the system it becomes less so. Imagine 1 person not doing so when all the others do, they would feel obliged to even if they didn;t want to. Then it becomes an issue that one person is singled out for things like being pushed out of the job as they are a 'rogue'. It is likely to lead to labels such as people being called transphobic as they don't comply which is disgusting. It is also pointless as no customer will ever use them. Unless we actually go into store and say "good morning, he, can I pay my credit card?" Therefore it is just political.

Jott · 05/07/2022 21:52

@MaggieMagpie357 my child is in the same position. My take on it is that my thoughts on the issue are irrelevant because its not about me, its about my DC and what they need to know over and above everything is that their parents supported them unconditionally and continued to love them unconditionally.

Unless you have proof this is actually happening at Halifax then you're clutching at some mighty big straws.

bigfootisreal · 05/07/2022 22:01

Well we know those who don't follow suit are labelled very quickly in normal life so why would work be any different. How easy would it be to stand up against colleagues when you don't want to? Also how awful to have to come out when you are not ready, shocking tactics to out people. Unless you have proof it won't happen and there are policies in place to support those who don't believe in bringing politics into work then we can assume it is possible.

Again I can't see a need for them at all

SidewaysOtter · 05/07/2022 22:09

I am totally putting fee/fie/fo/fum if anyone asks me to state my pronouns.

So when I go into the bank this weekend I should walk up to the counter and say "Good morning, he"? Really? I understand the issues myself you do not know my history so please do not try and tell me I do not understand.
