I've just tried the M&S rye sourdough and it's amazing. I make my own bread but not sourdough. This loaf was £3 something but it's worth every penny.

If I've not baked then I use Hovis soft white for most things. It's excellent for wotsit butties when the need arises. Or should that be knead rises? Warburtons sandwich rolls for burgers but otherwise I find their bread too plasticky and the crusts go really hard quickly. I've not yet mastered the bread roll or slicing homemade for sandwiches. I'm only able to cut huge slices. I'm partial to a poppy seed anything and an enriched dough cinnamon swirl is a thing of delight (not the pastry ones). Poppy seed or sourdough bagels with Mexicans cheese and mayonnaise are lunch time bliss. Garlic bread. Hot buttered toast and a cup of tea on a cold day. Toasted tea cakes. I'd choose bread over cake but I don't think there's a carb I don't love.

Come share the love of bread in all its glory.

Sorry low carbers, this bread thread might upset you or cause you to point out the error of my ways.

Asda do a chilli and cheese sourdough (not a really real one though - more of a 'sourfaux') that tastes good. I can't tolerate very much gluten but this toasted seems fine in small quantities.

I appreciate it because gluten-free bread quite frankly is crap.

Howdilydoodilyneighbour · 01/07/2022 13:01

A bakery local to me do a marmite and cheese loaf. Sublime.

ComtesseDeSpair · 01/07/2022 13:03

The Happening Bagel Bakery in Finsbury Park does the best challah loaves. I can’t have them in the house, they disappear in a day.

Lalosalamanca · 01/07/2022 13:04

Milk roll
Irish soda bread
Vogel

Shoxfordian · 01/07/2022 13:06

I love a good crusty sourdough

Wilkolampshade · 01/07/2022 13:08

@ComtesseDeSpair can second this! Glad it's not just me then 😋😳

Also, Dusty Knuckle on Green Lanes for sourdough and potato sourdough.

Awoooga · 01/07/2022 13:11

Black Sheep white tiger bloomer. I want to get married in a dress made of it 😂

Clarinet1 · 01/07/2022 13:12

What about Peshwari naan? Or brioche?

Misstes · 01/07/2022 13:12

Our local bakery does a sourdough bread with cranberries and walnut pieces, I could eat the whole loaf in one day as its so lovely!

OneTC · 01/07/2022 13:13

... and butter pudding

stuntbubbles · 01/07/2022 13:14

A fresh baguette bought and devoured in France, in the blazing sunshine – so good it doesn’t even need fancy French butter to adorn it, but even better if you have some. A Sainsbo’s crusty stick just isn’t the same.

Lollypop701 · 01/07/2022 13:17

I think you might need a trigger warning for low carvers 😂 soda bread dipped in a runny boiled egg, fresh tiger bread with anything but nice with oil and basalmic but has to be thick sliced, crumpets with melted cheese. I love potatoes too… carbs in any form are yum

AnyFucker · 01/07/2022 13:20

I worship bread in all forms

saveforthat · 01/07/2022 13:21

@Awoooga I second black sheep white tiger bloomer. It is the most delicious bread I have ever tasted.

tired17 · 01/07/2022 13:22

An electric carving knife will solve the problem of not being able to cut slices of homemade for sandwiches

RainbowBridge21 · 01/07/2022 13:24

I oscillate a lot with what I like but my current obsession are panini's/sourdough panini's. Sainsbury's and Waitrose do really good ones. I toast them and make bruschetta.

CloseEncountersOfTheTurdKind · 01/07/2022 13:25

Bakedin cinnamon roll kit makes the best cinnamon rolls ever!

Wilkolampshade · 01/07/2022 13:29

'... Though now I think of it, a salt beef bagel from Brick Lane at 3 a.m, a hot spinach and feta gozleme anywhere on Green Lanes, lahmacum from Hala, a pile of soft, hot chapatti and dal, homemade doughnuts, Dusty Knuckle focaccia sprinkled with excessive amounts of salt, Gail's cinammon buns, or my mums homemade soda bread and butter or my gran's homemade croissants.

doris9034 · 01/07/2022 13:34

Waitrose Chilli and Cheese Bread or 3 Olive Bread - toasted with melted cheese on top mmmmmmm

Gliblet · 01/07/2022 13:34

Absolute carb lover 😁 If I could only have one more taste of bread it would be lavender focaccia from a deli in Norfolk. But day to day favourites are tiger bread for a bacon butty, rye bread or crumpets toasted (and dripping with butter), dark wholemeal or multi grain for a sandwich. Unless it's egg (then soft white sliced). Sourdough with pate or cheese, or a fresh white baguette with soup or salad. Ooh, or leftover sourdough made into riboletto or panzanella.

I've cut back on carbs lately, does it show? 😆

Clevs · 01/07/2022 13:36

Warburtons white toastie loaf.
Warburtons crumpets.
Warburtons cinnamon & raisin bagels.
Tesco bakery cranberry & cashew bloomer.
Hovis seed sensations.

I don't like pre-sliced burger rolls and prefer to buy a pack of four or six white rolls from Tesco bakery.

londonmummy1966 · 01/07/2022 13:51

Waitrose sourdough crumpets with plenty of butter, baked beans and cheese..... I'm lucky to live near a couple of brilliant bakeries - one does an amazing rye loaf and the other an Italian olive loaf that is a bit like a cross between cibatta and focaccia. The former also does incerdible hot cross buns in the correct season and the latter amazing pizza available on deliveroo.

supertedlasso · 01/07/2022 13:54

Never met a bread I don't like.

Worldgonecrazy · 01/07/2022 13:58

The Townmill Bakery, Lyme Regis, do an amazing sourdough granary bread. Freezes well so worth a detour!

You may never want to eat any other bread once tasted.

Lalosalamanca · 01/07/2022 14:07

Oh my god you have to toast the polish bakery sliced bread it's Half-Wheat Half-Rye Sourdough Bread. Soooooo good.
