I've just tried the M&S rye sourdough and it's amazing. I make my own bread but not sourdough. This loaf was £3 something but it's worth every penny.

If I've not baked then I use Hovis soft white for most things. It's excellent for wotsit butties when the need arises. Or should that be knead rises? Warburtons sandwich rolls for burgers but otherwise I find their bread too plasticky and the crusts go really hard quickly. I've not yet mastered the bread roll or slicing homemade for sandwiches. I'm only able to cut huge slices. I'm partial to a poppy seed anything and an enriched dough cinnamon swirl is a thing of delight (not the pastry ones). Poppy seed or sourdough bagels with Mexicans cheese and mayonnaise are lunch time bliss. Garlic bread. Hot buttered toast and a cup of tea on a cold day. Toasted tea cakes. I'd choose bread over cake but I don't think there's a carb I don't love.

Come share the love of bread in all its glory.

Sorry low carbers, this bread thread might upset you or cause you to point out the error of my ways.

I’ve just had dinner and dessert but will be nipping to the freezer in a minute to get out a giant crumpet so I can toast it and slather it in salted butter and marmite. If I had two I’d cover one in honey…

Milk roll
Irish soda bread
Vogel

@Lalosalamanca Milk roll as in that thin round sliced bread?
If so that takes me right back to my Nan and her tiny milk roll sandwiches she used to make. Butter, mild cheddar, and if she was feeling exotic, a bit of iceberg lettuce! 🥰😂

limitededitionbarbie · 01/07/2022 18:38

Iceland thick cut tiger loaf it's lovely

theshadeofgreen · 01/07/2022 18:40

Morrisons salt and pepper tiger loaf.

Hands down.

Every time.

converseandjeans · 01/07/2022 19:05

German bread is best & my favourite is Laugenbrotchen - a roll flavoured like a pretzel.

Coop do a nice cheese and chilli flavoured bread.

I called it bloomer, but you're right!

Amazing!

barneymcgroo · 01/07/2022 19:11

If you want to improve your bread slicing, you need one of these:

www.kitchenknives.co.uk/victorinox-fibrox-26cm-pastry-knife-serrated-edge-5293326/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwtvqVBhCVARIsAFUxcRuuFcwZbXzE8vJo1773SMXrH90FZHAlfhtx-ILZwV0Yw3SZENf5vm0aAlUgEALw_wcB

It's a pastry knife, rather than a bread knife. Often bread knives are inclined to tear rather than slice your bread, and I've had several that set off in very odd directions.

They are incredibly sharp, so watch your fingers...

Tbh my preference is a standard fresh crusty white (with a nice slathering of butter)

mathanxiety · 01/07/2022 19:21

Irish brown bread
Irish soda bread
Roasted garlic sourdough bread
Russian dark rye bread
Danish seed and whole grain bread, very dark, can't remember the name.

NiqueNique · 01/07/2022 19:49

@mathanxiety that would be rugbrød (Danish bread). So good for open sandwiches.

I forgot about the Morrison’s tiger loaf. That is very good.

Want bread now. 🙄🙄

I wish we had a Morrisons near me. Can you post a pic of the bread so I can look for it next time I am near one? I travel for work

NiqueNique · 01/07/2022 19:58

Oh! Oh! I forgot my absolute favourite.

LIDL’s pretzel rolls. OMG they’re like crack to me.

Pkrwbssdp · 01/07/2022 20:06

The NY Bakery red onion and chive bagels - DELICIOUS

Pkrwbssdp · 01/07/2022 20:06

Also agree re Morrisons salt and pepper loaf - sooooo good toasted with loads of butter

Dollgiraffe · 01/07/2022 20:08

M&S cro-loaf lightly toasted with loads of butter but they don’t make it anymore 😭

Calphurnia · 01/07/2022 20:09

Veda! For the Norn Irish MNetters...

dannydyerismydad · 01/07/2022 22:20

DH makes his own sourdough from the dregs of his homebrew.

Every loaf is different. They are all delicious. If he makes a brilliant one, he will never replicate it again.

YourWinter · 01/07/2022 22:47

Morrison’s salt & pepper bloomer
Morrison’s tiger bloomer
Tesco tiger half-baguette (especially when yellow-stickered to 9p)
Black sheep tiger bread tastes good but the slices are too big for my toaster, and for the bowl and pan I use for French toast, but half the slice just looks mean
Waitrose tiger bloomer ditto, too wide and too flat
Any choc chip brioche
Peshwari naan

I really don’t like sourdough except Waitrose San Francisco s/d straight out of their oven. Otherwise it’s too much like chewing cardboard. Most of their bread baked (actually ‘refreshed’) in store is insanely overpriced and as it is displayed unwrapped it’s often too hard and dry to risk my fillings, let alone how many hands have touched it!

barbandricky · 01/07/2022 23:04

Lidl malted bloomer. It's the best.

honeybeetheoneandonly · 01/07/2022 23:07

Honestly, Lidl's bread rolls and loafs are unbelievable. Their Bretzels (cut open and spread with butter), their sourdough Boule or the sourdough rye loaf are amazing. They also do little Ciabatta type roles that are fabulous for sandwiches.

lifecanbehardattimes · 01/07/2022 23:08

There are so many I love, but a good tiger bread with lashings of butter is lovely!

LuckyStone · 01/07/2022 23:24

German bread is the best, thats why Lidls bread is so good. Its still a sad knock off in comparison to actual German bread though 😂

pimlicoanna · 01/07/2022 23:54

M&S fresh cheddar loaf is amazing

HangingOver · 02/07/2022 07:27

MY bread Grin nothing beats it. Fresh day one, toast day two, panazella day three chef kiss

WFH has been a revelation for my diet!
