Anal fissure support

I know this isn't an unreasonable debate but I'm posting for traffic because I really need some help here.

Had surgery for piles which is all sorted now but suffered a tear during my surgery. I've been struggling ever since. 5 weeks now. Doesn't sound long but I am starting to go under.

They gave me botox during the surgery and since I'm not doing well I'm assuming more Botox in the future wouldn't be especially helpful. I was using diltiazem cream but that's now started to react badly and really set me back.

I'm being careful with food, barely eating to be honest. I'm on movicol so I'm not constipated and I don't have diarrhea. I'm using a footstool to go to the toilet and I'm having baths to encourage blood flow and healing.

I don't know that there's anything more I can do but I'm starting to lose my mind so had to post.

Even if you don't have a miracle cure I think I'd just appreciate some support at this point. I don't think I've ever been so low.
Thank you.

I am on day 2 of my “medihoney” and remaining hopeful. It’s not altered much yet but I’m only two very small applications in and it isn’t hurting the wound, which is good. I’m back at work after my holiday today and the stress of that along with the heat won’t be fissure friendly so it has got it’s work cut out!

How are you all doing?

BroomHandledMouser · 18/07/2022 13:06

I actually wonder what a fissure looks like. Do you think it’s like a paper cut or much deeper?

sorry if it’s an odd question, I was just pondering whilst having a minute in front of the fan 😆

Blueskythinking123 · 18/07/2022 17:11

I'm feeling fed up today. After feeling things were improving I've been leaking today. Not sure if I've overdone the trying to soften stools or it's a new issue. Feeling hot, bothered and down today.

Waxlyrically · 18/07/2022 19:25

@Blueskythinking123 this condition gets me like that - everything in that area becomes a worry that makes me fear the worst and feel low. Even things I’d never have noticed in carefree pre fissure times. Hopefully it’s just swelling from the heat irritating things, (it is for me), and a temporary blip.

Blueskythinking123 · 18/07/2022 21:02

Thanks @Waxlyrically just feeling sorry for myself today. Probably the heat etc

SadFace2 · 20/07/2022 14:02

Hi, how is everybody doing? I'm hurting today but I'm on my period and I always have more trouble with my bum at that time of the month.

No word on my MRI yet so I'm getting annoyed, chasing up with his secretary but she keeps fobbing me off.

I'm feeling much better today. I have had a letter advising I should have received an appointment with the colorectal surgical team by September, if I haven't I need to contact them.

Chlobob27 · 24/07/2022 21:10

@BroomHandledMouser I'm due to have botox soon too. I'm just waiting for a new app. I was meant to have it this month, but I chickened out. I'll be going on my own, as my dp will be at home with our 2 ds. Nervous about having a GA. It'll be my first one.

How are you getting on @SadFace2 and @Waxlyrically? My bowel movements have been all over the place this past week or so. I would normally go to the loo on a morning, but I've been going most evenings. I'm not complaining though. I'd much prefer to go and then sleep! It's preferable over sitting all day when my bottom is sore. I just can't understand where the soreness is coming from, as I'm really not in any pain when opening my bowels. Yes, there's sometimes a little blood, but that's it. For me the soreness comes on within an hour, or so of going and it lingers for hour's. I must admit though that I've not been keeping up to using the Medihoney. I just end up reaching for pain killers and suppositories to give some quick relief, although it doesn't always.

Waxlyrically · 25/07/2022 07:55

I’m up and down @Chlobob27 & sadly the medi honey did nothing for me 😢

I find it’s uncomfortable going & then the pain builds up to its worst around lunch time. After that it drops away with the odd stab or sting just to make sure I don’t forget it!

I’m on Diltiazem again (riding out the initial soreness which is getting better now). Not sure what happens when it runs out though as I don’t think my GP will prescribe it. I’m also trying to have a more positive mind set about it all and see it as me working with my body to heal rather than my body torturing me if that makes sense. There seems to be some internet evidence that they all heal eventually but that it can take a long time.

Nothing wrong with painkillers as at least they stop you tensing against the pain. I find nurofen the best for it and take two straight after using the loo before 30 mins on my heat pad. Sorry you are struggling with this too 😞

BroomHandledMouser · 28/07/2022 10:33

@Chlobob27 yeah I’m not looking forward to it too if I’m honest. It’s got to be better than this though, I’m on a very long car journey through France and it’s hurting like buggery.

Im so fed up of being in this pinchy stabbing pain merry go round x

Chlobob27 · 28/07/2022 10:59

@BroomHandledMouser it's bloody awful. Really does affect your quality of life. I've not had my app come through yet. I've been okay recently, but this thing leads you in to a false sense of security. You think it's healed, then it comes back with vengeance. I'm not holding my breath. Just appreciating the good day's when I can sit. My ds is in hospital currently. A sickness bug has hit our house. My dp had to take him to A&E last night, as he'd only had one wet nappy in 24 hour's and was refusing to drink. Bloody nightmare. Think they're fitting a feeding tube as a temporary measure. Missing him dearly. I'm at home with my other ds. He's 4m old and my eldest who's unwell is 2.

theimposter · 10/08/2022 02:23

So been using the Actimed honey stuff for a few weeks. Seen some improvement but nothing drastic. Still itchy and bleeding most days.

Had my pre op hospital appointment last week; the nurse was absolutely lovely and it was the first time I’ve felt anyone has listened to me. It was just lots of questions about drinking, smoking, weighing you, allergy questions, blood test and so on. I did tell her I was worried about general anaesthetic as my first time and although I’d ticked no to a lot of the form questions I am fairly sure I have undiagnosed issues with thyroid/hormonal/ovaries because of no help from GP in 20 years and giving up and living with the pain/issues.

I was expecting a long wait for op date but the hospital rang a week later and said a different surgeon was doing an extra day on a weekend soon to get through the backlog so it was either accept that with him or wait for who knows how long. So I took that date and now waiting apprehensively for my Botox op as just want it done now even though I’ve had to cancel other plans.

Chlobob27 · 10/08/2022 04:55

Well good luck @theimposter. I hope all goes well. Do give an update, once you've had the botox. I'm still waiting for an appointment. I know the nerves will kick in, once I've got a date.

theimposter · 12/08/2022 01:53

Thank you. I will update once it’s done!

Blueskythinking123 · 14/08/2022 10:28

@theimposter good luck. I'm another one who would appreciate an update once it's done. I really hope it all goes well for you.

LavaBum · 14/08/2022 12:05

So glad I found this thread.
I had surgery last week to remove a polyp. In the process they made my fissure (which was gradually healing on its own) 100x worse. Excruciating pain when using the loo and for hours after, ineffective pain relief. Just awful.
As of today the pain is when I use the loo, and an ache the rest of the time. I'm on naproxen, paracetamol and 4x movicol spread through the day.
Doc has given rectogesic, suggesting I start this coming week on it... but I'm scared it will hurt to try to apply it as the whole area is so sensitive.
Any tips/suggestions welcome.
One thing's for sure... I would never have had the polyp removed if I knew this would be the outcome. Everything over the past few weeks cancelled, ongoing pain, unable to think or focus, days out with the kids cancelled... :-(

Chlobob27 · 14/08/2022 19:57

I'm sorry your suffering @LavaBum. I got suppositories from the GP. They are actually for piles, but they helped me. They've got a steroid in them. I keep them in the fridge and use them when I'm sore. You could use wet wipes when going to the loo too. I've had problems with my bottom since I had my son over 2 yrs ago. I take Lactulose twice per day and use a foot stool when using the toilet. It puts you in the correct position. Hope things settle for you soon x

Lydie35 · 19/08/2022 08:38

Hi,
Not sure if you are still suffering,
But i would recommend an enema with warn water every time you poop until you feel better. It cleans the wound when you go to poop and the acids don' t hit it as much. Also clean the area with hammamelis and calendula tincture. To soften stool chia seeds, flaxseed powder, magnesium and physillum. Natural healing oils has a fissure oil too, as well as forces of nature. Also check out optimal health network for suppositories you can make or listen to you gut jini thompson patel. I am sure all this can help

Lydie35 · 19/08/2022 08:51

With the enema zero pain while pooping, no pain at all...

Lydie35 · 19/08/2022 08:55

@LavaBum if you are this sore, make the jini patel suppositories, only 4 ingridients and can be so thin...

LavaBum · 19/08/2022 11:22

Thank you @Lydie35 and @Chlobob27.
Currently experiencing pain from the fissure when using the loo, which now thankfully subsides after (it wasn't last week - hurt all the time). But as a new treat I now get muscle spasms in nearby muscles that hurt like hell in a completely different way (more like an ache than someone pouring molten lava into an open wound).

megletthesecond · 19/08/2022 13:07

Mine is trying to flare up again. Grrr.
Going to mooch around and today and not eat too much.

Waxlyrically · 28/08/2022 07:38

How is everyone doing? After a big re tear I've had a good few days. I followed some advice on here and upped my Cosmocol intake to 3 sachets a day which is working at the moment. My stomach is permanently gurgling but that's a small price to pay!

theimposter · 28/08/2022 12:07

Sat waiting to go in for op and had quick chat with Anaesthetist. Had lots of stabbing pain from fissure the last week or two and some stomach bloating/pain so it can’t come soon enough. Really hope it makes a difference and I don’t get any horrid side effects 😬

Chlobob27 · 28/08/2022 14:34

@theimposter hoping all goes well and you get some relief x
