Anal fissure support

I know this isn't an unreasonable debate but I'm posting for traffic because I really need some help here.

Had surgery for piles which is all sorted now but suffered a tear during my surgery. I've been struggling ever since. 5 weeks now. Doesn't sound long but I am starting to go under.

They gave me botox during the surgery and since I'm not doing well I'm assuming more Botox in the future wouldn't be especially helpful. I was using diltiazem cream but that's now started to react badly and really set me back.

I'm being careful with food, barely eating to be honest. I'm on movicol so I'm not constipated and I don't have diarrhea. I'm using a footstool to go to the toilet and I'm having baths to encourage blood flow and healing.

I don't know that there's anything more I can do but I'm starting to lose my mind so had to post.

Even if you don't have a miracle cure I think I'd just appreciate some support at this point. I don't think I've ever been so low.
Thank you.

Hello @theimposter its a miserable condition but it’s good to be able to vent on here and hear success stories/things to try. I’ve had Botox and although it didn’t work long term for me it does for many and brought some relief. It had no side effects at all for me. My GP fobbed me off as having piles for years even when I had an active abscess and fistula going on. When I think back to all the money I wasted on creams for piles it’s maddening but not as much as being ignored when I was insisting it was not simply an “uncomfortable pile” 😡

theimposter · 14/07/2022 19:16

Thank you both. I’m very worried about the Botox side effects as I have animals to look after by myself so I can’t just decide to have a day in bed/off work if I’m not feeling great and I’m also worried about being out and about with no loo access or anywhere to clean up.

Hopeful the honey stuff will help; just been to pharmacy again re the rash and they told me to get tested for food allergies 🙄

Waxlyrically · 14/07/2022 19:33

@theimposter hopefully it’ll be similar for you as it was for me. Hardly any after effects at all - just a little bit of soreness. It’s a minimal procedure & I could have walked home from the hospital afterwards to be honest!

theimposter · 14/07/2022 19:55

That’s heartening to hear. The consultant was quite pleasant and sympathetic and said side effects were rare and usually just gas but I’m paranoid about leaking etc now reading some of these responses and issues!

Chlobob27 · 14/07/2022 23:07

Welcome @theimposter to this thread. I'm hopefully having botox soon,so I'll let you know how I get on. Hoping to get an app through within next month. I saw 2 different GPs. One said she could find nothing wrong and the other said I had piles!

@SadFace2 glad you're having another good day. I've just tried the Medihoney this evening. I'm hoping it helps me. Very sore after going to the loo this evening. Currently laid down on my side on the sofa.

How have you been today @Waxlyrically? Have you tried the Medihoney yet?

SunscreenCentral · 14/07/2022 23:17

I don't suffer from this affliction personally, but this is such an important thread.

I hope everyone going through the mill on here finds a solution and good quality of life

Blueskythinking123 · 15/07/2022 07:43

@Chlobob27 I hope the medi honey helps you.

My daughter is a student nurse. She came back from uni this week. I'd not mentioned the issues I'd been having. Anyway I'd left my medi honey in the bathroom and she asked who was using it. I explained what had been going on and it was easing the pain etc. she asked if the doctor had prescribed it because on her last placement she was doing wound care and they used honey as a treatment for worse issues in the same area successfully. So it does look like the honey is a good option, I just can't understand why it is not prescribed or promoted more as an option.

Waxlyrically · 15/07/2022 08:45

@Chlobob27 I have everything crossed that the medi honey works for you. It seems to be helping so many others. Mine has arrived now but is at home. I will be using it from Sunday when I get back. I used to get excited about new clothes etc arriving but now I can’t wait to unwrap my new bum gel😂

Willing all fellow sufferers a good day today 🤞I’m ok so far but back on diltiazem cream which luckily I’m ok with.

MrsPnut · 15/07/2022 10:18

I have a small recurring fissure relating to radiotherapy damage, I also have sores that won't heal on my vulva.
I swear by lidocaine 5% ointment and medihoney barrier cream.

I first used medihoney last year when I had damage post brachytherapy, and my oncologist had never heard of it, fast forward a year and she said this week that we was at a vulval cancer workshop and it was recommended as a first line healing treatment, and a lightbulb pinged in her head to remind her of me.

theimposter · 15/07/2022 12:36

Thanks @Chlobob27 I’d be really interested to hear what is involved with the general anaesthetic and procedure generally as I have avoided any operations for my whole life so it’s a bit daunting.

Excited as my Medihoney is ahead of schedule and arriving today! As someone else said above; getting excited about bum gel delivery 😆

I actually read a few of these descriptions to DH last night as I felt like a weight had been lifted that I’m not alone in this and also the poor bloke has been so understanding about the almost complete lack of sex but I think hearing more anecdotes helped him understand just how painful and irritating it is and I’m not just exaggerating or using it as an excuse. He’s also happy I’ve found some other ideas to try like the Medihoney as knows how down it has got me of late.

SadFace2 · 15/07/2022 18:38

@MrsPnut Everyone who knows about Medihoney seems to absolutely race about it. The problem is not enough people seem to have heard about it! Thank god for this thread.

@Chlobob27 How are you getting on with the Medihoney so far? Another good day using it for me. Also my leakage seems to have really slowed down/stopped. So I'm feeling quite hopeful still. Sorry for tmi.

*rave!

OP posts:
MrsPnut · 15/07/2022 20:26

@SadFace2 I’ve raves about it for over a year and it was a nurse at my practice that recommended I try it. I had a lot of tissue breakdown after brachytherapy and it was excruciating. Think the first post partum wee every time for a month. I couldn’t sit down and the skin was bleeding and oozing. I tried almost everything, saw the nurses twice a week and eventually got my oncologist to agree to topical oestrogen and the nurse advised medihoney. The damage cleared in a week.

My current problem hasn’t been cleared with that regime but I am about to try hyperbaric oxygen therapy as it is proven to promote healing. I’m also having manual lymphatic drainage via reflexology which is also helping.

MrsPnut · 15/07/2022 20:27

My oncologist will now prescribe medihoney as a first line treatment along side the flamazine and flaminal forte that she currently uses.

Chlobob27 · 15/07/2022 20:30

@MrsPnut isn't it amazing how natural products can be such powerful healers. I'm pleased Medihoney is becoming a popular choice in wound care.

@theimposter I've never had an op either, so it'll be my first time. It's understandable that you won't be feeling horny when you're in pain and discomfort. I'm quite grumpy currently and I think my mood is affecting my partner and our relationship, so I'm really hoping this Medihoney helps, along with botox. I've just got some Naproxen from the GP, as over the counter pain relief wasn't helping at all.

@SadFace2 I've only applied the Medihoney twice so far, so I can't say I've noticed any improvement yet, but I'll keep using it and hopefully over time I'll feel a difference in my bottom lol. So happy that you seem to be finally on the mend.

Chlobob27 · 15/07/2022 20:32

@Waxlyrically glad you're also doing okay. I hope you enjoyed your holiday. Do update us on your usage of Medihoney when you're home.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend xxx

SadFace2 · 15/07/2022 21:07

@MrsPnut That does sound unbearably painful, I'm so glad you found a regime that has helped you so much. Sending you best wishes with your continued healing.

@Chlobob27 I think if you haven't been made immediately worse by the Medihoney then you'll hopefully see some good signs over the next few days. At first I wasn't sure if it was really doing anything but now I'm very convinced that it is. Crossing my fingers for you.

Chlobob27 · 16/07/2022 23:55

Hope you've all had a lovely Saturday. Just giving an update... I've only applied Medihoney 3x, but today has probably been the best day I've had in 2 week's! Very little discomfort. I've not had to take pain relief. I don't feel sore and swollen after using the loo. I just apply the Medihoney once per day. I really hope thing's continue as they are.

DelurkingLawyer · 17/07/2022 11:29

So glad that so many are experiencing similar relief. Thank heaven for this thread and the recommendation because it has transformed my recovery.

When the thread started and I first posted, I had had 4 months of agony followed by 2 months of slow recovery using Rectogesic and Fybogel, during which I had many relapses and it felt like 2 steps forward and 1.9 back.

I am now nearly 2 weeks into taking Medihoney and I am almost back to normal. Even when recovering with Rectogesic and not having a relapse I was conscious of it every day, and had some pain or twinges every day. I realised this morning that for the first time since Christmas I have not thought about it at all for several days. The only problem now is forgetting to take the Fybogel because I feel fine.

SadFace2 · 17/07/2022 21:20

@Chlobob27 That's great news, I'm so glad you're getting on well with it. My skin he's felt a bit irritated today but I think some of that is sweatiness from this heat. Sorry for tmi.

@DelurkingLawyer How often are you applying now? Just after going to the toilet or throughout the day and at bedtime etc?

OP posts:
SadFace2 · 17/07/2022 21:21

Why do I get all these typos on Mumsnet?! My skin has felt irritated, not he's.

Heathofhares · 17/07/2022 21:28

Ask your GP for a prescription for lictocane gel to apply before attempting a poo. It’s a local anaesthetic and really helped me when mine was at its worst. My sympathy OP shitting barbed wire doesn’t even describe it.

Parri · 17/07/2022 21:37

Ladies , I had a fissure and it kept getting a bit better then it would get bad again.
hydration and diet were so so important.
as were sitz baths.
I used hypoallergenic wipes the Andrex ones to clean it with and before 💩 I’d lather vasoline on the area to make it come out easier.
also I can’t stress this enough I’d wait till I was desperate … no straining . Breathe it out and try your best to relax. Easier said than done I know.
finally, I found this oil amazing;

www.stressnomore.co.uk/h-fissures-formula-11ml-10179.html

was pricey but did wonders, all natural too.

I also upped my vitamin c and zinc as these promote healing. I take a liquid supplement for this called elder berry xxxx

BroomHandledMouser · 17/07/2022 22:02

Is this it?

I have Botox surgery scheduled for the 17th August and I’m dreading it, but I so need it.

It seems to have gotten to the point now of no return, I’m not even constipated and the pain is still so bad.

It’s taken me three years to get to this point after trying cream after suppository after gel. I just need something to get me through till then and I’ll try anything!!

@BroomHandledMouser that’s the one

@SadFace2 morning and evening, that’s all. When I used to apply Rectogesic.
